10 best softop surfboards

A soft-top surfboard is a type of surfboard that features a soft, foam deck surface rather than the traditional hard, fiberglass deck. These boards are designed to provide a safer and more beginner-friendly experience for surfers, making them related to the categories of Surfboards, Surfing, Water Sports, Outdoor Recreation, and Sports & Outdoors. Here are some key points about soft-top surfboards:

  1. Construction: Soft-top surfboards are typically constructed with a foam core and a soft, padded deck. The foam used in their construction is lightweight, durable, and buoyant, making it suitable for surfers of various skill levels.

  2. Safety: One of the primary advantages of soft-top surfboards is their enhanced safety features. The soft deck reduces the risk of injury for both beginners and experienced surfers, as it is less likely to cause cuts or bruises upon impact.

  3. Stability: Soft-top surfboards often have a wider and more stable design, which helps beginners maintain balance and catch waves more easily. The added stability makes them an excellent choice for those learning to surf.

  4. Buoyancy: Soft-top boards are highly buoyant, making it easier for surfers to paddle and catch waves. The buoyancy also allows surfers to ride smaller waves effectively.

  5. Versatility: While soft-top surfboards are often recommended for beginners, they can also be used by intermediate and advanced surfers for fun and experimentation. Some soft-top boards are designed for specific types of waves, such as longboards for small, mellow waves or foam shortboards for more aggressive surf.

  6. Durability: Soft-top surfboards are known for their durability. The foam construction is less susceptible to dings and damage compared to traditional fiberglass boards. This durability can save surfers money on repairs and replacements.

  7. Deck Traction: Soft-top surfboards typically come with built-in deck traction, often made of soft, textured materials like EVA foam, to provide surfers with grip and control while riding waves.

  8. Cost: Soft-top surfboards are often more affordable than their traditional fiberglass counterparts, making them a budget-friendly option for those getting started in surfing.

  9. Maintenance: Soft-top surfboards are relatively low-maintenance. They do not require waxing like traditional surfboards. However, it's essential to rinse them with fresh water after each use to prolong their lifespan.

Soft-top surfboards are a popular choice for beginners and families looking to enjoy the sport of surfing in a safe and accessible way. They offer a forgiving and user-friendly experience in the water, making them a valuable addition to the world of water sports and outdoor recreation.

User questions & answers

Question: What’s the volume
Answer: Hi there! It's 37L
Question: does it come with a leash
Answer: Hi there! No it does not come with a leash. But it does come with a free set of fins. Thanks.
Question: Is this similar to the Wavestorms as far as materials go
Answer: Hi there! Our FoamTech boards are quite different than other options. They are constructed from a hand-shaped epoxy core and a high-density wood stringer. Because of this they have the same strength characteristics of a traditional surfboard. The rails and bottom contours are also hand-shaped, and the boards are finished with Hexcel cloth and epoxy resin. The top deck/rails are wrapped and vacuum-sealed with a texturized EVA foam. As a result, they have the cushy feel of a soft-top coupled with the performance/durability of a traditional surfboard.
Question: I see that the board says "Lightweight" but how much exactly does it weigh? Thanks
Answer: Hi there! This board weighs 15 lbs when it's out of the box.

User questions & answers

Question: I am looking to buy two boards - one fir my sone who is 5'10" 160lbs. i am 5'10" 180lbs. what size would we need
Answer: That 100% depends on your skill level and on the types of waves you will be surfing. Typically when you are beginners you want a board that is nice and long to learn on but not too long to maneuver. The 8’ or 8’8” would both work well.
Question: Does this surfboard take a regular fcs mount for the gopro? Will it fit directly into the plug
Answer: Not on the 2 I own.
Question: What comes with the board
Answer: Board, fins and leash. It’s all you need to hit the waves
Question: I am 5 ft 5 inch and 140 lbs, what board good starting to surf at ground zero
Answer: Can’t really go wrong , all these boards are great for beginners, but the 7’ board is probably a really good all around and fun board to have at your size. Good float / paddle abilities yet also small enough to maneuver for a beginner. Happy surfing!

User questions & answers

Question: Is this a Catch a Bandit Surf boogie thing
Answer: better - Frothy McSurf Nugget
Question: Can you put a track pad on the back of these? Will it stick to the foam
Answer: Cleaned the area to put traction pads with isopropyl alcohol. Marked the board where the pads would be placed. Used a chalk gun to apply 3M Marine adhesive in the marked areas. Removed paper from pads and installed them in the marked areas. 5 to 8 hours work. Used bricks to hold the pads down on the boards for two days. Then removed bricks and applied a bead of 3M adhesive around each pad. Cure time is 7 days. Looks and feels great!
Question: will I need wax for the front foot or is the top grippy enough to not use wax
Answer: Froth EVA traction does not require the user to wax the board. however, because of the performance capabilities built into the board, intermediate to advance surfers will use wax to increase grip while maneuvering through a wave. keep in mind that a soft top board form any manufacturer uses adhesives to install the traction to the board. over time Wax oils can penetrate the adhesive layers and break down the bond. We recommend before 1st use, taking a handful of wet sand and rubbing it onto the traction from tail end to froth logo. the course sand fibers will help exfoliate the brand new traction and bring out some extra grip. test out the ride and grip, if more traction is needed, apply light layers of basecoat formula and test again. if more traction is needed, apply another light layer of temperature wax according to the water temperature. once desired grip is noticeable, that should be all the wax needed. also note once wax is applied, this is a new layer that can melt under direct sunlight, try to avoid leaving a waxed board under direct sunlight, this will make a mess of things and potentially increase the rick of delamination. thanks
Question: What is the weight of this board (exlcuding packaging), and also the rail details, 50/50 or 60/40 etc? Thanks
Answer: a 7' Froth Soft board is 11lbs and has a Hard 80/20 rail.

How to Choose the Best Board

The choice of surfboard size depends on a couple of factors. The first is ability and the second is time in the water. In general, the bigger the board is, the better it will be to catch waves on. Take a look at the tables below to get an idea about the minimum sizes that you should be looking at for your surfboard.

  • A novice surfer will need a larger board than a more skilled surfer.
  • A surfer who only surfs occasionally will need a bigger board than one who surfs regularly.
  • A board that is too small will hold back a surfers’ improvement and probably result in frustration.

User questions & answers

Question: Im 6'4" and around 210lbs. Would this board be a good one as I am a beginner
Answer: The 8'8 Heritage would be the perfect fit for you
Question: I’m 84 lbs and 4’10 and a beginner in surfing is this board good for me
Answer: I've seen someone 5'-5" catch some nice beginner waves with the 7' ruccus I'm 200 lbs (beginner) and absolutely love the 8' verve i sink with the 7' ruccus
Question: i am 145 lb what boar or size is good for me
Answer: Hey there! Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in our 7' Ruccus. While our Ruccus is one of the most versatile boards in our lineup and is suitable for people of any age and/or skill level, I do think that choosing the perfect board for you not only depends on your height and weight but a few other things that could arguably be a tad more important. Before you pull the trigger on a purchase consider things like how comfortable you are in the water, how often do you surf (if at all) and what exactly you're looking for in a board. If you are new to the sport or have only done it a few times I would maybe start leaning towards a board that is a little bigger. Something bigger will allow you to paddle easier thus making it easier to catch waves and paddle out into the lineup. If you are comfortable on a bigger board and generally comfortable in the water and looking for something to step down to then the 7 foot Ruccus is perfect. The board still has enough volume to make catching waves easy but with the pulled in tail and more pointed nose it will have a bit more of a performance side to it more so than our 8'8 Heritage or 8' Verve. However, as with most things in surfing its mainly all about personal preference and what makes you the most comfortable out there. Hopefully some of this info helped you out and please feel free to contact us anytime at [email protected]. -Derick @ GCS
Question: What is the volume of this board
Answer: Hi Stephen,The volume of the 7' Ruccus is 50 Liters - aka we stuff enough foam inside this bad boy to make catching waves and learning how to surf way easier for all levels. Let us know if you have any further questions, we'd be more than happy to help! All the best,Alex @ GCS
