Question:	I have rafters rather than joists so I don't have anything parallel to the floor. Can the pulley's be mounted on rafter angles
Answer:	I think you could do that. The way the roping through the pully's works you have one rope end that controls one pulley and the other controls the other pulley. Once you have your strap ends set at the same level you should be able to hoist up and down by pulling on both ropes with the same tension.
Question:	how far do the pulleys hang down from the ceiling
Answer:	Depends on how you mount it, but it's not even the pulleys that are the problem as much as the hooks—they're very long. I threw out all my measurements, but the pulleys can be cinched up to about 6-inches from the ceiling when directly mounted, meaning NOT using the provided brackets that would hang them lower. I have a 10' ceiling and 17' boats that needed to hang above the garage door when open. To squeeze them in, I directly mounted the pulleys to the ceiling, which required taking the pulleys apart, which aren't designed to come apart, so I had to drill out the riveted axles and replace them with clevis pins. For the traveling pulleys, I had to do the same, but so that I could set a pair of low profile shackles inside the provided bracket instead of using the long hooks (see my review). On top of that, I have the straps as tight around the boats as I can get them.
Question:	Anyone use anything to keep straps from spreading besides the string across the hooks? I want to avoid the horror stories of the kayak slipping out
Answer:	Yes. The bottom of my kayaks are very slick and I had one strap slip while lifting one day. I have 10-foot kayaks. My pulleys are 6-feet apart. I tied a 6-foot piece of string on the straps under the kayaks so they don’t spread. I’ve had no problem since.

Question:	Would these straps also work well for a SUP, which is about 30 inches across and 11 feet long
Answer:	I don't understand why it wouldn't work for a paddleboard. My kayak is 14.5 feet long, about 2 feet wide, and weighs about 55 pounds. I hang that on the bottom. My roommate's kayak is 12 feet long, about 30-36 inches wide, and weighs about 45 pounds. We hang that one on top. My only issue (at least with the kayaks) is that it absolutely takes TWO PEOPLE to load and unload even just one kayak; because the straps hang freely, so when you try lifting the kayak, the straps move too, and it makes it impossible to get them down without some awkward and creative moves. I hope that helps.

Answer:	I don't see why they couldn't be hung on their side. The steaps are long enough.

Answer:	Not sure what you mean by straps. The ropes can be re placed at any hardware store and the straps can be re placed with binders from Harbor Freight.

Question:	Are these built well enough to withstand outside storage. Like under the roof of a boat dock
Answer:	I would say they are built well enough to withstand outside covered storage. I would not recommend uncovered. Only concern for me with covered storage would be wind or any kind of swaying movement that would cause the rope to rub and break or the kayak to slip out of the straps. We wanted our kayaks to hang higher so I shortened the straps and then sewed loops back on. Heat hasn't been a problem inside our garage which at times is much hotter than outside. You also want to make sure you have something to anchor the ropes to once the kayaks are hoisted whether it be the included anchors that screw to a solid surface or something else.

Answer:	The metal has a durable powder coat finish which will protect it as long as the finish has not been dinged, scratched, cut or damaged. The foam is polyurethane which has excellent weather resistance but, keep ion mind, weather is a relative term; Maine is very different from San Diego. Either way they will provide years of service in either climate

Answer:	The hook opens to 12 inches at the top. Since kayaks taper towards the ends , the hooks need to be located at the appropriate distances from each end of the kayak

Question:	How wide of a kayak will this support? My fishing kayak is 38" wide
Answer:	From the product description online it appears to be 1/4 in in diameter. It's pretty strong and holds our double kayak with no problem.
Question:	will this unit support my Yakima Skybox
Answer:	It's been years since I put it up but.... The holes appear to be ~2" apart. I used 4" deck screws and angled in on both side having first drilled a starter hole at that angle into the stud under the dry wall. Works great for my kayak - tested each by carefully pulling down on it with my 185 lbs.
Question:	I purchased two sets of these hooks and one of the clips broke. Is it possible to get a replacement clip
Answer:	This is intended for mounting to wall studs.
Question:	How far do they extend from the wall
Answer:	Yes, it fits my 15'6" single kayak. It depends on how far apart you space them and the weight of your kayak. I think max weight is around 100lbs. Mine weighs ~95lbs.

Question:	Are the pulley wheels plastic or metal? It looks similar to a Harbor Freight bike hoist that I have. I am looking for something more heavy duty
Answer:	Hey G.Harder the pulley wheel's are plastic. But this model is rated for heavy object's. I have used mine to hold up my wheelbarrow to open up floor space and have not had any problem's. The only change I made was with the way the rope was secured in the block, instructions say to tie a knot at the end of the rope but I was not satisfied with that so I bought a couple cable clamp's at hardware for $.99 cent's and clamped the rope around one of the mounting bolt's and feel safe working under it now. I'm very happy and satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking.
Question:	Is any other products like this that is better
Answer:	? This one is better than the Atwood one. I bought both. Although I prefer the rope that comes with the Atwood one, the Rad is heavier duty and better built in general.
Question:	How long are the straps? Would they go around a Yakima Skybox
Answer:	Each strap is 7 feet long, and the nylon line is very long. I didn't install it yet but it looks very similar to the bike rack that they sell and it is very strong and well made.
Question:	How tight to the ceiling can you get a kayak
Answer:	About 18" max. If you only use the hooksThe kit comes with straps that attach to the hook. With straps at least 24 inches to ceiling I have 8 foot garage ceiling. By attaching to straps -one end to loop other end to loop holding buckle I can get 6 feet between floor & bottom of kayak If you can't attach kayak to hooks only. You need to play with with harness straps to get max height.
