Answer:	I don't think you can use it on an electric coil burner. The grill plate needs to have direct contact with the heating source. I use it on a gas stove. You could get a gas single burner. I grill 1" steaks on it without oil. It grills with the meat's fats. I use medium heat because hi will burn the grill over time.

Answer:	Something probably got sucked into the motor. Check and see if you have all filters in place. Especially the small round foam filter. Easily gets thrown away when emptying canister. Sorry this might not help you fix it unless you can find a way to open it up. But you'll know for next time.
