11 best dropper post
A dropper post, also known as a dropper seatpost, is an essential component in modern mountain biking and is used to enhance a rider's control and maneuverability on rough terrains. Here's what you need to know about dropper posts:
Functionality: A dropper post is a seatpost that allows the rider to adjust the height of their saddle while riding. It can be quickly lowered or raised using a remote lever mounted on the handlebars, allowing the rider to change their riding position on the fly.
Advantages: The primary advantage of a dropper post is that it enables riders to lower their saddle when descending steep and technical trails. This lower center of gravity provides better balance and control, allowing riders to tackle challenging sections with more confidence. When climbing or on flat terrain, the saddle can be raised to its regular height for efficient pedaling.
Remote Lever: Most dropper posts come with a remote lever that is usually mounted on the handlebars within easy reach of the rider's thumb or index finger. This lever controls the post's movement, making it convenient to adjust the saddle height without taking hands off the handlebars.
Travel: Dropper posts are available in various travel lengths, typically ranging from 100mm to 200mm or more. The travel length determines how much the saddle height can be adjusted. Riders choose a travel length based on their riding style and terrain preferences.
Internal vs. External Routing: Dropper posts can be internally or externally routed, depending on the frame and cable routing design of the bike. Internal routing provides a cleaner and more streamlined appearance, while external routing is simpler to install and maintain.
Diameter: It's essential to select a dropper post with the correct diameter to fit your bike frame. Common diameters include 30.9mm and 31.6mm, but other sizes exist, so it's crucial to match the post with your frame's seat tube diameter.
Maintenance: Like other bicycle components, dropper posts require periodic maintenance. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and checking for play in the post. Some models may also require bleeding of the hydraulic system if they are internally routed and use hydraulic actuation.
Cost: The price of dropper posts varies depending on factors such as brand, travel length, features, and construction materials. High-end models may include advanced features like adjustable air pressure and damping control.
Compatibility: When considering a dropper post, ensure that it is compatible with your bike's frame and internal cable routing, if applicable. Additionally, check if the post's cable actuation matches your bike's drivetrain system (e.g., 1x or 2x).
In conclusion, a dropper post is a valuable component for mountain bikers, as it allows for quick and easy adjustments to saddle height, improving control and maneuverability on challenging terrain. Proper maintenance and compatibility with your bike are essential considerations when choosing a dropper post for your cycling adventures.

When we were a kid, we thought being called "short stack" was an insult to our not-so-lofty stature. It turns out, our heads just weren't in the right game. OneUp Components takes short stack to the max with its Dropper Post - V2, measuring in with the shortest stack height available, and shortest total length of any available dropper currently on the market. Much like the first iteration, the V2 features cable-actuated, infinitely adjustable drop, and a stack height so low that you can easily size up your dropper and enjoy more clearance when its time to buzz the back wheel on steep, aggressive descents. Not only is it the absolute shortest dropper post on the market, but OneUp offers a unique, travel-adjust shim system with two 10-millimeter shims that enable you to trims down your post to your personalized needs by up to 20-millimeters, so you don't have to size down in dropper length if you're between sizes. This means you can achieve that 140 millimeters of drop with the 150-millimeter option or achieve 160 millimeters of drop with the 180-millimeter option by OneUp, making it a truly personalized dropper, seeing your physiology doesn't usually conform to every number on the market. For the dropper's operation, the OneUp Dropper Post uses a reliable cable-actuated that doesn't require bleeding to deliver smooth drops and speedy returns -- though do note that the lever isn't included. Since the cable clamps at the lever, trimming it down for cable routing is a breeze. And since it's not a hydraulic dropper like some of the competition, it won't slow down or stick in those colder temperatures regularly experienced at higher elevations.

The Deets
In the bike industry fashion is determined by the mud on your shorts and dust on your shoes. Yet, there is something undeniably satisfying about a freshly tailored suit, we designed the all-new Rainier Dropper Post to add that custom-tailored feel to your bike. The past version of this post is known for its consistency and reliability. While maintaining those qualities, this new iteration focuses on fitting more bikes and providing refined adjustability for the rider.
Tool-less Travel Adjust System:
Our travel adjust system allows for a total of 30mm travel reduction in 5mm increments. If you were riding that line between a 170mm and 200mm dropper you can now fine-tune the perfect fit, (like finding the perfect chamois that holds you close but doesn’t create an excess of muffin top).
Reduced Overall Length
The redesigned Rainier is significantly shorter than our other posts. We scrubbed overall length of the post by minimizing the size of the bottom actuator and shortening the lower tube. Overall length reductions vary by travel but we were able to knock out 27.5mm of overall length from our 125mm size. Combining all of these changes means this version of the Rainier can fit into more bikes while also maximizing the amount of travel available.

Question: | How much does this weigh |
Answer: | According to the specifications shown on the Amazon link, the unit weighs 1.95 pounds. |
Question: | Is there really a total length of 300mm available? In |
Answer: | it's only 100mm drop |
Question: | What is the min height from the top of the post to the rails of the seat when completely down, would like the seat to go down to the frame |
Answer: | On my dropper post....There is about an inch and a half distance between the seat rail and the top of the dropper body when fully compressed . But there is a flare another inch and three quarters on the outer body (where post reduces down to 27.2mm) So absolute minimum dropper post length from the top of your seat tube to the bottom of seat rail.. would be three and a quarter inches .... hope this helps |

The Deets
The Coast dropper is the world’s first Suspension Dropper Post, combining ride smoothing suspension and the benefits of a dropper into one seat post. This dropper is designed to help riders on all types of bikes, from packed up trekkers, to the cross country wanderers, even the weekday commuters.
We developed the Coast because the earth isn’t flat (no matter what those people on twitter say), it’s kind of bumpy. And while we all like coasting along on freshly paved roads, mountain paths are enticing and potholes exist no matter how much we swear at them. The Coast Post was designed to soak up some of these vibrations. We accomplished this via 40mm of tunable air suspension housed in the internals to make your ride a bit smoother.

Sweeping berms and undulating trails are best left uninterrupted by frequent stops to re-adjust a rigid post for the section ahead. Preserve the flow and enjoy the ride with the FOX Racing Shox Transfer Performance Series Dropper Seatpost - Collar Routing. Featuring a black anodized upper post and hydraulic internals, this dropper sits stealthily under your saddle to manage transitions from stomach-dropping descents to rip-roaring singletrack with a quick flick of a handlebar-mounted lever.Like any good dropper, the Transfer prides itself on adjustability, but it doesn't just stop with height. The cable junction pivots to sit at angles ranging from 60-degrees rearward to 60-degrees forward of the in-line position, which means it'll work smoothly with any cable-routing setup, eliminating twisting, bunching, and general messiness. It also connects on the lower, stationary half of the post, so you can cut the cable to precisely the right length instead of having to leave extra to accommodate the movement of the post. As an added bonus, a tool-free cable disconnect feature makes for easy installation and maintenance.FOX Racing Shox offers two separately sold lever options for its Transfer dropper posts. The left side below bar mount sits similarly to a standard shift lever, adding clean symmetry to one-by systems. The left/right on bar mount sits how we most commonly think of dropper post levers, and provides clean integration with any shift system.

Whether you're a neat freak looking for a way to tidy up your cockpit, or you're a hunter of the newest, sleekest components, we wouldn't fault you for giving RockShox new Reverb AXS Dropper Seatpost a good once-over. This elite new dropper skips the cables, opting for electronic actuation that wirelessly communicates between a sleek button at your cockpit and your dropper post for a setup free of hoses, routing, and wasted energy. All of this has been enabled by SRAM's AXS technology that brings a new level of interaction, personalization, and connectivity to your steed. Chances are, if you follow competitive mountain biking, you've spotted the new Reverb AXS along with SRAM's AXS mountain bike drivetrain across podiums and steeds of your favorite riders. It isn't technology that SRAM tried too hard to keep under the wraps, and we speculated as to just how it works, and now with its release to the market we're able to see the whole picture and understand just how integrated RockShox's new dropper partners in with SRAM. With new AXS technology that starts up front in the cockpit with the Reverb AXS button. This small and compact piece keeps things tidy as it sits next to your brake on the left, and communicates through SRAM's own wireless connection to the dropper post, offering quick actuation with significantly less effort than the levers of the past. The wireless network is easy to sync up, and also communicates with your smart phone so you can fine tune settings using the AXS mobile app. The post itself is smoother to move than previous generations, requires less downward pressure to drop, and can be stopped in any number of positions between its base and highest reach. It uses a new lower-friction IFP that allows for faster actuation of the post, preventing sluggish rebound when you need your saddle at full-mast for punchy pedal fests at the bottom of a descent. The post also features new Vent Valve technology that enables super simple servicing. While Roc...
