6 best bikes for heavy adults
Bikes for heavy adults, often referred to as "heavy-duty" or "plus-size" bikes, are specially designed bicycles to accommodate individuals with larger body sizes and weights. These bikes are engineered to provide extra strength, stability, and durability to support heavier riders while ensuring a safe and comfortable riding experience. Here is some information about bikes for heavy adults and their relevance to cycling, outdoor recreation, and sports outdoors:
Strong Frames: Bikes for heavy adults feature robust frames constructed from materials like steel or aluminum. These frames are designed to withstand higher weight loads and provide better stability and support.
Wider Tires: These bikes typically come with wider tires that offer increased traction and stability. The added width helps distribute the rider's weight more evenly, reducing the risk of tire damage and improving overall control.
Reinforced Components: Key components, such as the frame, wheels, spokes, and pedals, may be reinforced or upgraded to handle the added stress of heavier riders. This ensures that the bike remains durable and reliable.
Comfortable Saddles: Bikes for heavy adults often include wide, padded saddles designed for comfort during longer rides.Comfort is especially important for heavier riders to prevent discomfort or numbness.
Stronger Brakes: Upgraded braking systems may be installed to provide better stopping power, enhancing safety on downhill descents and during emergency stops.
Higher Weight Capacities: These bikes typically have higher weight capacity ratings compared to standard bicycles. The weight limit varies by model, so it's essential to choose a bike that can safely support your weight.
Adjustable Features: Many bikes for heavy adults come with adjustable features, such as handlebars and seat posts, to accommodate different body sizes and riding positions.
Stability: The design of these bikes often includes a lower center of gravity, wider handlebars, and a more upright riding position, which all contribute to improved stability and control.
Purpose-Specific Models: Some heavy-duty bikes are designed for specific activities, such as mountain biking, commuting, or recreational riding, so you can choose a bike that suits your intended use.
Indoor Storage and Transportation: When not in use, it's important to consider indoor bike storage options to protect your investment. Additionally, if you need to transport your heavy-duty bike, there are specialized car racks and transportation solutions designed to secure larger and heavier bicycles safely.
Regular Maintenance: Just like any bike, proper maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and performance of bikes for heavy adults. Regularly inspecting and maintaining the bike's components, including checking tire pressure and lubricating moving parts, is crucial.
Bikes for heavy adults are designed to promote inclusivity in cycling, allowing individuals of all sizes to enjoy the benefits of outdoor recreation and physical activity. When choosing one of these bikes, it's important to consider your specific needs, the terrain you'll be riding on, and your budget to find the right model that provides a safe and enjoyable riding experience.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the wheel dropout width,is it 170mm? Will it fit a fat bike electric conversion kit |
Answer: | This bike will work with 170mm axle 'Fat Bike' rear hub motors. I have 2 of these, one with a Magic Pie Vector, (195mm axle) and the other with a 12t MAC geared hub motor (170mm axle). The forks will pull in a little but that is ok. Rear break caliper only needed a 5mm washer on the rear most bolt to properly realign after being pulled in for the 170mm motor axle. The frame triangle also easily fits a 'Large Triangle Battery' (14s9p) from EM3EV. |
Question: | I'm a big guy, can the tires handle 350lb man? All other bikes appear flat tire when I sattle |
Answer: | I'm 6'ft2in and about 360lbs. I have a Mongoose Beast, the earliest version of this bike (same frame, no gears, coaster brake), and it handles me without much difficulty. You will need to be careful with the tire pressure -- I see way too many people try to put 20psi or more and pop the tire off the rim, and it was hard to trust that 8-11psi is the right range. The tires will definitely feel soft with a big guy on it, but that's the nature of having 4in or bigger tires. You can buy tires with a harder sidewall like the Origin8 Devist-8er, but after I figured out the right pressure for the originals (about 10psi for me), I decided to run the cheapies for as long as they would go. Still going strong. Oh, also -- if you're tall as well, you can get a 40cm seat stem to replace the original 25-30cm one, made the ride experience much nicer. |
Question: | Does the 18 medium mean this is a bike for a smaller, medium sized person? To what does this refer |
Answer: | I'm 5"-11" / (71") with a 32" inseam, and weigh 210 Lbs. The Bike fit's me just fine. The 18" refers to the Frame Size of the Bike. Which according to the chart provides a transition between the Medium 17" Frame and the Large 19" Frame Bikes. The Frame sizing as I look at the chart's, are all based on a persons Height and Inseam. You can Click on the Bike Buying Guide, then look the Chart's over. To see what's suggested for your Height and Inseam. http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=5801315011You can look at this Model of the same Bike but with a 17" Frame. It has a lot of feed back and answered questions that should help you out. http://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Mens-Malus-Tire-Silver/dp/B00TYB8Q7A?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_7&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER |
Question: | What is the difference between the mongoose men's malus fat tire bike and the mongoose men's dolomite fat tire bike |
Answer: | The malus is the newest iteration of the mongoose fat bikes. Besides better build quality on the malus, the largest difference is weight. The dolomite uses some of the heaviest fat bike tires made. The malus uses private labelled panaracer fat b nimble tires. On a fat bike , tire weight is critical in handling and acceleration. |

See the glee he has as he bounces over embankments and boings over rocks. The Mongoose Malus 26-inch fat tire bike has arrived to save you from the doldrums and put a smile on the faces of all those you pass by. Built with 4 1/4-inch tires (earning the name fat) on a supersized beach cruiser frame, there is plenty of clearance to make it rideable on virtually any terrain. Plus, the Malus has 7-speeds with a rear derailleur and front and rear disc brakes so it still has its vein of practicality. Fat tires are all the rage and the Malus is a great bike to add to your stable, giving you the capability to ride year-round. There is nothing you can't do on a Mongoose and almost nowhere you can't go on the Malus.
How it all began:
Founded in 1974 in a Southern California garage, Mongoose was born when founder Skip Hess designed the MotoMag One wheel to make BMX bikes stronger with a rad new look. From there, BMX riding turned from an underground hobby to a full-blown phenomenon, with Mongoose's innovative products continually forging the sport's exciting new path. Mongoose riders dominated the BMX race circuit in the 1980s, while the company continued to push bicycle boundaries by pioneering the first wave of full-suspension mountain bike frames. Today, Mongoose continues to create products that push riders to thrilling new limits, whether it's ripping through gnarly mountain trails, stomping tricks in the park or owning the urban jungle. From reinventing the wheel to our current line of BMX, mountain and pavement bikes, Mongoose is synonymous with pure, unadulterated performance that always keeps the party going.

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone come up with a good solution for locking your bike while in the rack |
Answer: | Where are you hanging this rack? Can you run a long cable through the two wire pieces and wind it through the wheel and frame? |
Question: | The rack is great, but it doesn't work with bikes that have fenders. I didn't see anything on the mfg or product site re this; suggestions |
Answer: | Fender Racks and Fat Racks are now in stock. Here is the link to the fat rack on Amazon. Fender rack will be added shortly http://www.amazon.com/SteadyRack-Fat-Rack-Tire-Bikes/dp/B01CF59PPS/ref=lp_9015448011_1_3?srs=9015448011&ie=UTF8&qid=1456869273&sr=8-3 |
Question: | adult & 3 kids. will work well? How would you arrange them? Do you have to straighten them all out before you can get the one buried out |
Answer: | Yes, they work well. I staggered heights and spaced them 18" apart. Yes, you have to swing them over to get to one in the middle. Hope this helps! |
Question: | What is the widest tire anyone has put on these racks? I have a 29 x 2.4 - thinking it may not fit well |
Answer: | It should fit. The back brace, which your tire slips through, is 2 3/8". You might have to push a little... but it should be able to get through it. The holding brace (the one that folds out) is wider so that won't be a problem. The 29" will easily stay in the holding brace. This is absolutely the best way to store your bikes. Easy to set up and easy to slip bike into holder. You just have to have the upper body strength to lift up the front tire. I have two and will never go back to anything else. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Whats the best way to lock up this bike and not have the battery stolen |
Answer: | I don't believe it came in an Amazon box. It came in a box that fit it perfectly and cushioned it for shipping. That said, you wouldn't want it shipped in an Amazon. The manufacture did a nice job of preparing it for shipping without needing to be unpacked by Amazon and repacked in their own box. |
Question: | Where to buy extra battery? and price |
Answer: | Pretty much as is: it's been a while since I purchased this item, and I don't remember if I needed to attach the feet. On a side note, this item is still beautiful, and sturdy. My three children have not been able to damage it, the hinges for the lid are still like new, and no tears or holes in the material. |
Question: | Where are these bike built or made |
Answer: | Sorry, please note the zipper position, if the old pouf is big and firm, it maybe can't put in. |
Question: | Can I attached a front child carrier bike seat to this |
Answer: | I bought 1 cube and 1 round. The cube is hard to pack evenly but the round one works great. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the bike fold small enough to travel on an airline as checked baggage? (Transported inside a case or box |
Answer: | I just ordered one and will try to check it in for a flight to Europe. As I have time for 2 weeks to find a perfect size box that will protect the folded bike and make sure I come to the US with only carry on luggage so this will be my only bag to check-in. In case the dimensions cannot be checked in I can still ship it via USPS or courier. So we will see what I can come up with. I will be in Florida for 2 week where I would love to use it before taking it to Europe where its main use will be to load it on to the train as the regular bikes need a train ticket and the folded ones if packed in the bag are is free :) Does anybody know the exact measure of the shipping box it comes in? I would love to do some research before coming to the US for a sturdy box which could fit the checked bag dimensions hopefully. Thanks. |
Question: | I am only 5 foot tall. Could I put my feet on the pavement when stopped |
Answer: | I believe so. The seat is adjustable and the bar between the seat and handle bars loops down like a traditional woman's or girls bike allowing you to stand when stopped. |
Question: | How much does the bike weigh with fenders and rear rack? What is the frame material? Steel |
Answer: | The bike is made of aluminum. Not steel as some people say here. Only steel frame part is front fork. Even seat post is aluminum pipe. Handle bar is aluminum as well. |
Question: | hi I am 6-2 would I be able to ride this bike comfortably |
Answer: | I am 6' tall and am comfortable riding this bike. Considering that your knees should be slightly bent at the bottom of your pedal stroke, I still have sufficient seat height and handle bar adjustment to set the bike up for a taller rider. Make sure you slide the seat forward or backward so that your knee is centered over the pedal axle at the top of the pedal stroke as well. Tip the seat up or down to minimize seat pressure on your most tender parts. Tipping the seat downward in front just a bit will also tip your pelvis forward for a more comfortable ride. Balance this off with the handle bar height to reduce pressure on your hands and wrists. If the bar is too low, you will tip forward and put too much pressure on your hands and wrists... |
