Answer:	The side pockets are right at 15 inches but they taper at the bottom so I doubt you could zip them shut. The top pocket is squareish so if the laptop isn't too thick (1-2 inches) you could be able to squeeze it in.

Long Island was offering that mod but stopped because the commonly available sapphire will interfere with the hands on this watch. I have had a scratch on my Orient mineral crystal which is deep enough to annoy me. I successfully buffed it out with diamond power polishing paste (use 5, 3, 1um size). Total cost was $15.

Answer:	I doubt it unless it was a very small sleeping bag rolled up very tightly. I would use a dry bag mounted to the handlebars to carry a sleeping bag.

Answer:	I was also concerned about this measurement. On my wife's bike it measured 7.5" from the top of the saddle to the top of the frame. Or 6.5" from the top of the frame to the saddle frame. She hasn't use it yet for bike packing but it looks like it should have enough clearance to the rear wheel.

So the ultimate answer is this. Originally the bags did detach and could be used separately, but the later version seems to be one solid piece. Both of the ones I ordered, from different sellers, were a single piece design. So you may get lucky and get one that can be used separately as a messenger bag but I would not expect it.
