Take a 3D tour to learn the types of fire extinguishers you need to protect your home.
Multipurpose Protection for Your Family and Home

This fire extinguisher contains a multipurpose agent that fights Class A, Class B, and Class C fires. Class A fires involve common combustibles, such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber, trash, and plastics. Class B fires involve flammable liquids, solvents, oil, gasoline, paints, lacquers, and other oil-based products. Class C fires involve energized electrical equipment, such as wiring, controls, motors, machinery, and appliances.

Recommended by Fire Experts for Proven Protection

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends at least one primary protection fire extinguisher for each level of the home. A primary protection fire extinguisher should have a fairly large capacity and must be UL Rated 2-A:10-B:C or higher. In addition to your primary protection, you should also have UL rated supplementary protection fire extinguishers for additional protection or specific hazards. You should not have to travel more than 40 feet to reach an extinguisher.

After ensuring you have enough primary protection fire extinguishers, place 1-A:10-B:C rated multipurpose fire extinguishers as needed for supplementary protection in bedrooms and living areas.

This supplementary protection fire extinguisher meets the recommendations and needs of:

  • The National Fire Protection Association: the NFPA 10 Standard for Fire Extinguishers
  • Underwriters Laboratories (UL): the independent testing lab for fire safety products
  • Professionals: for more than 90 years, industry leaders, the military, airlines, and firefighters have relied on Kidde fire extinguishers
The Right Solution for an Emergency Situation

In an emergency situation, you need a proven technology: a UL-rated fire extinguisher with a handle, a visible pressure gauge, and enough size and capacity to put out a common fire. These features are what makes a fire extinguisher the tool of choice for true fire suppression. Many aerosol can fire products may not be as reliable for fire protection, because they have a short shelf life (only three years in many cases), they do not provide a gauge to verify readiness, and they aren't UL rated. If you are able to react to a small fire when it starts, chances are good that you can stop the fire with the right type of fire extinguisher. Always make sure your extinguisher is pressurized and close at hand for emergency use.

Built to Last and Easy to Use

This Kidde Fire Extinguisher is durable and easy to use. The fire extinguisher is warranted for six years, and its metal pressure gauge helps ensure that the fire extinguisher is charged and ready for use. This extinguisher is durable and corrosion resistant, featuring a rust- and impact-resistant nylon handle and a light-but -durable aluminum cylinder. The sure-grip handle and operating lever make the extinguisher less likely to slip from wet or oily hands and easier to operate for people with arthritis or weakness of the fingers. A large bilingual nameplate on the extinguisher provides easy-to-read instructions for use during a fire.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it come with some sort of bracket to mount in on the wall

Question: does this Fire Extinguisher have an expiration date
Answer: No, it has a higher rating - 3A:40BC
Question: Do these things expire? Or can I buy one and keep for years
Answer: ABC fire extinguishers are multipurpose and can be used in that application.
Question: Can it use on grease fires

User questions & answers

Question: Do these have the u.s.c.g. marine type rating
Answer: I double looped over the hook.
Question: How many pds in each @ coming with bracet@ how long before expiredt
Answer: The pegs are a good 1/2 inch around so you would be able to hook a key ring that is at least 1 inch around....
Question: Are these rated for kitchen fires? i.e. grease fires, cooking fires
Answer: Overall: 24" W x 6" D x 21" H; Mirror: 17" W x 11" H
Question: Are there mounting wall rackets for all
Answer: You are right that the pegs won't hold anything heavy. There is a drill hole in the panel that holds the peg. If you replace with hooks, the backing to the hook would have to be big enough to cover the peg-sized hole. I think it could be done, with the right hooks.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this extinguisher good for grease fires
Answer: Yes, it can be refilled by an licensed/accredited Fire Extinguisher company.
Question: what is the expiration date on these
Answer: Yes it does. Nice piece of equipment.
Question: Does it still work even after the expiration date
Answer: Many incorrect answers to several 'weight' questions on this product. To clarify... The "total weight" of the fire extinguisher is about 18.5 pounds (i.e., 'the entire thing sitting in your lap = 18.5lbs"). The extinguisher has a *capacity* when fully charged to hold 10 pounds of fire-suppression chemical or "spray" that comes out of the nozzle. Doing the math: (18.5lbs "gross weight" of the entire product) - (10lb of fire suppression 'stuff' within the canister) = metal canister/hose/nozzle/label weight of ~8.5lbs. If the unit is shipped in a box which itself has a label + shipping receipt, the TOTAL weight of EVERYthing is probably ~20 pounds (box+label+receipt+canister+fire suppression stuff inside). That being said, what's important to note is not so much the weights per se but the fire fighting capacity. This is a 4A:80B:C unit. A = the relative capacity of the unit as if it is shooting water (on a wood fire) (NOTE: the unit does not shoot water! the "A" value is the effectiveness of the extinguisher contents as iff it was water!!); B = the relative square footage of the fire it can handle C = the unit ability to fight electrical fires. So lets break down a 4A:80B:C unit... ...it is a 4A. Each A=1.25gal 'value' or 'power' of water (NOTE: again I emphasize most strenuously, the unit does NOT shoot out water...the 'A' value is the 'power' or 'comparable effectiveness' of its contents to water. Hence, 4 x1.25 = 5gal of water 'relative' capacity/power meaning the unit has equivalent of 5 gallons of water power to fight a wood fire (NOTE: once again, repeat after me... it is NOT !!! water inside the extinguisher, but rather, the contents in the canister have the EQUIVALENT of 5 gallons of water fighting capacity) (there is no water in the canister) (repeat after me: 'A' value is fire fighting ability as if the contents were water, which they are not ... it is a comparison. There IS NO WATER inside the canister!!). ... it is an 80B. Each B is a square foot. Hence, this unit has the capacity (theoretically) to address an 80sq ft. fire which is 8x10 or so which is a small kitchen or average bathroom size fire. This will not address a fire at Grand Central Terminal. It will not fight a fully emblazoned McMansion. It will not fight a car factory fire or an oil refinery fire. 80 sq feet (ish). A walk in closet, small kitchen, a carport, etc. ...it is a C. Thusly, the unit can be used if the fire is electrical based. BULLET: Canister total weight in your lap =~18.5lbs. Of that, 10lbs is fire fighting stuff inside and ~8.5lbs is metal canister. The canister has the relative 'power' of 5gals water for wood type fires though, to again repeat, there IS NO WATER in the extinguisher. It can fight a small fire in an area of ~8- square feet (or 10 x 8 = walk in closet). As a 'C' unit it can fight electrical based fires. There is no water. "2lbs" is most certainly a typo of which Amazon is rife. Read the entire thing above like 2-3x to make sure you know what you are getting but most importantly, what extinguisher labeling means and what it does NOT mean. P.S.: There is no water in this unit.
Question: How do you dispose of an expired can
Answer: Rechargeable. That is why I bought it.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the shipping $45.67 as shown
Answer: It does have a slight reddish/mahogany tone, but not "red" or overstated color. It's a nice wood finish, not the painted look. (And not that you asked, but the pegs aren't going to hold anything heavy FYI.)
Question: Does it have an expiration date? Is the 6 year warranty from the moment you received the product or when it was made
Answer: Only mounting was required. That was a problem because the studs in our wall would not match up to the top rail with the predrilled holes. I ended up drilling new holes, one in the top rail and the other on the bottom rail vertically below. That worked very well. There was no "assembly" required. But, the standard iron that my wife puts in is a hair too big for the cabinet and she has to wiggle the ironing board to secure it. Other than that, the cabinet works very well.
Question: Is this a 2A:10-BC
Answer: No
Question: Can this be used in car Shop / garage working on cars
Answer: It comes with a cover, I'm not sure what to but to replace it when the time comes, but I love this wall mount ironing board

User questions & answers

Question: is this model rechargeable
Answer: each bottle has a yr stamped on the bottom, mine is 2014, and it says on the side of the sticker in red writing to replace after 10 yrs from the date stamped on the bottom, i have 1 in my laundry room , garage, and shop, the mounting bracket works great that comes with it, hope this helps
Question: Which is better for all-around home use, the amerex b500 or b402? i understand the b402 has a higher u/l rating but that decreases flow rate
Answer: Just be aware, read the 1 star ratings on here for this plastic valve Kidde unit. They are notorious for losing pressure over time, Kidde has had multiple recalls going back into the 1990's for various plastic-valve models. Also the gauge may be frozen in the "green" zone but the unit may have leaked out all pressure. You get what you pay for, compare this model to any metal-valve 2 1/2 lb extinguisher from Amerex, Ansul, Buckeye, Badger etc and you'll see the difference. Fire extinguishers are like parachutes, it's too late to buy a better one at the moment that you need to use it.
Question: Why does the title say 5 lb. and the description say 10 lbs.? What is the true weight
Answer: For kitchen/cooking specific fires, check out the "KIDDE 21008173N Kitchen 711A Extinguisher"
Question: It says multipurpose. Does this mean it works on all classes of fires
Answer: Yes, the First Alert Home Fire Extinguisher reaches the standard of u.s.c.g, and is rated by the United States c.g. as 1-A: B: C. Meaning that the 1-A says that the extinguisher can extinguish fires from the solid materials such as wood, card, paper, and fabric. 10-B shows that fire from flammable liquids like kerosene, petrol, paints, and diesel can be extinguished and the C indicates that the fire extinguisher can put out electrical fires.

User questions & answers

Question: How long till this particular fire extinguisher expires
Answer: Purchased mine in December 2013 and expiration date is 4/17/18.
Question: Is it rechargeable
Answer: Yes, it’s January 2021 and I just used one that expired in 2016 to put out a kitchen fire yesterday that almost got very bad, and would have without an extinguisher nearby
Question: Can this be used for boats
Answer: It depends on the agent and the age of the extinguisher involved. Modern dry chemical extinguishers (>90% of home use models) can be discharged into a trash bag and the cylinder portion recycled. The chemical is non-toxic and can be disposed of at a sanitary landfill. Water and CO2 types can be discharged to the atmosphere and the cans recycled. Foam and water-based chemicals may be able to be discharged into a sanitary sewer (NOT storm drain) or may need to be collected for disposal by a haz-mat collection company. It depends on the laws where you live. Halon and clean agent types should be returned to a fire extinguisher shop where the chemical can be reclaimed, as they are harmful to the environment as ozone-depleting substances. Old or antique ones in unsafe or unknown condition should be taken to a fire extinguisher shop or household hazardous material collection center for advice. Trained personnel can depressurize or pack the extinguisher for transport. Some old fire extinguishers contain toxic chemicals like carbon tetrachloride, which are both toxic and carcinogenic. These should only be emptied/handled by trained people.
Question: Can this extinguisher be stored in the vehicle during hot and cold weather
Answer: I wouldn’t do that read the fine print says something about high temperature storage
