14 best 20 inch bike for boys

A 20-inch bike for boys is a popular choice for young riders who are transitioning from smaller children's bikes to larger ones. These bikes are designed to be age-appropriate and provide a comfortable and safe riding experience for boys typically between the ages of 6 to 10 years old. Here's what you should know about 20-inch bikes for boys in the context of cycling and outdoor recreation:

  1. Size and Age Range: A 20-inch bike refers to the wheel size, with a tire diameter of approximately 20 inches. These bikes are suitable for boys who have outgrown their 16-inch or 18-inch bikes and are typically between 6 to 10 years old, although the specific age range can vary depending on the child's height and leg length.

  2. Features: 20-inch boys' bikes come with features designed for young riders, such as a sturdy frame, smaller grips, and a more manageable reach to the handlebars. They often have a simple gear system, making it easier for kids to learn how to shift gears as they progress in their cycling skills.

  3. Types: There are various types of 20-inch bikes for boys, including mountain bikes, BMX bikes, and hybrid bikes. The choice of bike type depends on the child's interests and the intended use. Mountain bikes are great for off-road adventures, BMX bikes are designed for tricks and stunts, and hybrid bikes are versatile for both on-road and off-road riding.

  4. Safety: Safety features are a top priority when it comes to kids' bikes. Look for models with responsive brakes, a protective chain guard, and durable, puncture-resistant tires. A comfortable, well-fitted helmet is also essential for safety.

  5. Sizing: It's crucial to choose the right-sized bike for your child. The rider should be able to touch the ground with their feet when seated, and there should be a slight bend in the knees when pedaling. A bike that is too large or too small can be uncomfortable and unsafe.

  6. Brands: There are various reputable brands that manufacture 20-inch bikes for boys, including Schwinn, Huffy, Diamondback, and Raleigh, among others. It's a good idea to do some research and read reviews to find a bike that suits your child's needs and your budget.

  7. Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as keeping the tires properly inflated, lubricating the chain, and ensuring the brakes work effectively, is essential for the longevity and safety of the bike.

  8. Accessories: Consider adding accessories like a water bottle holder, a kickstand, or fenders to enhance the functionality and style of the bike.

Remember that as a parent or guardian, it's important to prioritize safety and ensure that your child wears appropriate protective gear while riding. Additionally, teaching kids the rules of the road and proper riding etiquette is crucial for their safety and enjoyment of cycling.

All Koen nodels feature a SmartStart design, which has been carefully calibrated to a child’s proportions for a comfortable ride and ideal riding position. This includes a lighter bike frame for added control, smaller grip handles to match smaller hands, a narrower pedal position to match narrow kid hips, and much more. Rear coaster and front hand brakes ease the transition to a bigger, hand-break-only bike when they’re ready. Plus, a saddle handle makes it easy to comfortably carry or tow the bike when they get tired or use it for hanging storage at home. The Koen features all this plus a number plate, BMX styling, and a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own the bike. Teach your child the joy of riding on the brand you trust with the Schwinn Koen.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the 18 inch bike too large for a boy turning 4? He's 90% for height
Answer: The 18" bike is recommended for riders 5-9 with a height of 42"-52". The stand over height for the 18" is about 20". Thanks, Jen
Question: On the balance bike, I am wondering about the seat height from the ground to the shortest seat position
Answer: It will vary depending on tire size but since the 18 is most common that measurement is 23 inches
Question: Warranty? Bearings are getting stuck
Answer: Warranty only covers parts and not labor. I was able to get Amazon to provide a refund because I was just outside the 30 day return window. With the cost of labor, you might as well throw the bike in the trash.
Question: Where can you buy an extra tire and wheel frame
Answer: We bought a new tire at our local bike shop. The rear tire on ours had a hole in it when we received it.

Schwinn SmartStart bikes are made to fit your child's proportions

What is Schwinn SmartStart? It is a complete redesign of bike geometry to better match a child's body type to create a more comfortable, ideal riding position. This includes a lighter bike frame for added control, smaller grip diameters to match smaller hands, and a more narrow pedal position to match children's smaller hips. Other kids bikes are just shrunken down versions of adult bikes.

On a SmartStart bike, there will be less wobble while the child pedals so they will feel more confident and comfortable while going through the learning process. Plus, the seat angle was changed so as the seat is raised the reach distance to the handlebar also increases; meaning that the bike will fit your child longer.

Schwinn Koen with 12-Inch Wheels

Fits children 2 – 4 years old, or 28 – 38 inches tall. Adjustable saddle and a slack seat-tube angle allow the bike to grow with your child and comes with training wheels.

Schwinn Koen with 18-Inch Wheels

Fits children 5 - 7 years old, or 42 - 52 inches tall. Adjustable saddle and a slack seat-tube angle allow the bike to grow with your child.

Schwinn Koen with 20-Inch Wheels

Fits children 6 years old and up, or 48 - 60 inches tall. Adjustable saddle and a slack seat-tube angle allow the bike to grow with your child.

User questions & answers

Question: I want a 26 inch blue bike but the title still says 24 inch even after pressing the 26 inch option
Answer: The ones that came in my order are Duro, made in Thailand.
Question: Hi, cam I attach a cat friendly basket or something for my 13 pound cat
Answer: I bought the rubber tire, and it is exactly as pictured, with the large, knobby bumps. It rides very smoothly, and I like the way it feels when riding; However, you mentioned the wheel, (the metal rim & spokes), and that is not part of the tire listed for sale. (Tire, Yes / Wheel, No)
Question: What is the frame size of this 26” tire bike
Answer: I have the 'V' facing forward on the top. To me, as the tire roles forward, the narrow part of the 'V' hits the water, etc., first, pushing the water out to the side as the 'V' get wider. Both my cars have similar 'V' pattern and they were mounted that way by the tire shop(s). So either everything I ride/drive is either 100% wrong or 100% right. Hope this helps.
Question: if you buy this, does it come all attached for you have to attach them from parts
Answer: It says 35 psi on my tires.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this bike also have peddle breaks
Answer: The deacription says basically only the Japanese sport bikes, i got it for my ninja, didnt come with the right size pins so i had to order another pack of larger sized pins. Also it hits a bracket and bends said bracket under my head light, i suggest looking at a stand specifically for your brand or buy a pitbull stand. IMHO
Question: can you put begs on the front and back
Answer: They have multiple pins that fit all bikes. So yes will work for your 650
Question: how do i get them the few missing nuts and bolt
Answer: Hi Jeff- I would not recommend venom stands for your vmax. They are light duty and low budget items. From experience I recommend woodcraft or pit bull. They are worth it.
Question: What is the top tube length
Answer: Hello, thank you for your interest in our products. The fitment for this Venom Combo stand is as follows as per the manufacturer: These stands are compatible with virtually all the sport bikes of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha Front Triple Tree Pin is placed inside the center of the stem/triple tree, push down, and the motorcycle will lift Rear stand is placed under the rear spools (sold separately) located in the swingarm, push down, and motorcycle will lift Not compatible with single-sided swingarms

Question: How much does it weigh
Answer: yes, it has a zipper to remove the hood
Question: does this bike have 360 degree spinning handlebars
Answer: My boyfriend is 5'9 and 200 lbs and the XXL fits him. So I really can't say for sure what you should order since you have very different body types. Sorry.
Question: does it have a kickstand
Answer: 3XL in Japan is a large in US. That's what I ordered for my man and he normally wears a medium. BUT he could wear a dress shirt and hoodie underneath comfortably. There is no fur lining in the sleeves so he wore a zip hoodie underneath to help keep warm. A Medium(2xl) would be a good choice for just a shirt underneath. Hope this helped.
Question: Can i just buy a tire

The perfect bike for the in-betweener

When they are too big for their old 16" with training wheels bike and yet still too small for a big-boy 20" bike....enter the Switch. It fits that inbetweener kid that is just a little short for his age, so the next side up looks way big...and might be dangerous to ride. The Switch is the bike that will bridge the gap.

One of the great details is that there is a coaster brake and a front and rear handbrake so this is a great way to transition to hand bike controls. They choose how they want to stop.

And it is from the brand that you remember that makes mountain and BMX bikes for the pros and for cool kids like yours.

How it all began:

Founded in 1974 in a Southern California garage, Mongoose was born when founder Skip Hess designed the MotoMag One wheel to make BMX bikes stronger with a rad new look. From there, BMX riding turned from an underground hobby to a full-blown phenomenon, with Mongoose's innovative products continually forging the sport's exciting new path. Mongoose riders dominated the BMX race circuit in the 1980s, while the company continued to push bicycle boundaries by pioneering the first wave of full-suspension mountain bike frames. Today, Mongoose continues to create products that push riders to thrilling new limits, whether it's ripping through gnarly mountain trails, stomping tricks in the park or owning the urban jungle. From reinventing the wheel to our current line of BMX, mountain and pavement bikes, Mongoose is synonymous with pure, unadulterated performance that always keeps the party going.

User questions & answers

Question: does this bike also have brakes when pressing pedal back
Answer: Coaster brakes came on the bike (not listed) so this was a huge disappointment for our son. Sending it back now
Question: Can begs go on the back as well
Answer: Yes, you can put pegs on the back. But the bike only comes with 2 pegs.
Question: Are the bikes already assembled for delivery
Answer: They do not come pre-assembled but you can request that they're assembled. It's an additional fee. If you have an adjustable wrench, you can put it together in about 20min.
Question: Does this come in a package that is noticeable of what is inside? I'm wanting to purchase it as a present, but scared it will arrive and seen
Answer: The brand name is on the front and back of box but no picture of a bike. One of the sides does have a label I believe with the make and model and I think a small picture of the bike if I remember.
