Answer:	No. Please don't try and use this device to rappel. It is an ascender. It shouldn't be used for descending as you're highly likely to hurt yourself extremely badly if you do.

Answer:	I am using a multi strand jacketed rope in 3/8 size. I don’t know about braided rope.

Answer:	If you mean "work" I'll assume you're thinking that the 3/8" will fit in the ascender. The short answer is yes, as the WC Ropeman is engineered for 7mm to 10mm ropes. The 3/8" converts to 9.5mm. The quality of your rope choice has direct bearing on your safety and without knowing more about it, I can't recommend your rope and that ascender together as a safety line, restraint or back-up. Answer:	The Petzl ascension is certified to the EN 567 standard that says 4kN (900lbs) static load without destroying the device or rope. The key is static load. The device can withstand higher static loads to about 6kN (1350lbs), but any dynamic load applied from 4kN (900lbs) to 6kN even for a millionth of a second will eat your rope to shreds. The general rule is toothed cam devices eat rope at 4kN (900lbs), so don't use it as a rope grab, fall arrester, or progress capture unless you really know what your doing. The EN12841 type B standard tests show that it will handle dynamic loads over 4kN (900lbs), but it becomes very depended on what type / age of rope is used. Its a hand ascender for body weight (static loads), if your using it for something else consider another device.

Answer:	I use this as a chest Ascender. (11mm ladder safety rope) This ascender is best on a vertical line. I use a rope grab with a heavier U shaped aluminum body & cam for tree/pole flip line.

Answer:	Yes! It is marked "8-13mm". I have used it with 11mm, 12mm &13mm ropes. That is 7/16" to 1/2" diameters.

Answer:	No!!! It is an Ascender- as in: GOING UP!!! It will slide freely up a rope; But, It Locks if the eye hole is pulled downward. It is a safety device to catch you if you slip or fall. It can be used as a back-up device for a Descender. The silver tab on top when pulled toward the eye hole allows it slide down your rope with NO braking control. It works well as a Fall Arrest Device! It is a very compact & very light wieght! What you want is a Decender. Figure 8's; Figure 8's with ears are the least expensive. Answer:	This can be used but wasn't designed for Gecko climbers therefore operation & fit are not the best. A knee ascender is a better recommendation.

Question:	whats the difference between the 69 dollar and the 73.59 ? one has a solid orange strap and the other is orange and white
Answer:	I have the cheaper one. Works ok and I really dont like it. I quit using it after the teeth on the thing started pulling on the treads of my rope. I'm sure it'll work fine with another type of rope. If you're going to get one look into the knee ascender as well or a different way to get up. I have the L-scroll by petzel linked with a carabiner and a small pulley. Good luck

Answer:	No a chest descender isn't designed for primary life support when climbing or during a fall. It's main function is to help keep your climbing rope closely confind to your chest when you are using it in conjunction with a hand asenceder attached to a foot loop and a foot ascender. Using all 3 together will give you the advantage of quickly ascending a climbing rope using the rope walking technique. The main drawback is that you can't quickly descend in an emergency situation. HOW TO USE

How to Engage Rope on an ascender?

Hold the ascender with arrow mark upside (or in opposite to rope move direction); Pull Safety Catch outward and fix it by clipping to the body; Install rope between device body and cam; Release safety catch and make sure cam firmly bite rope.

How to remove rope from an ascender?

When remove rope from ascender, it’s vital and must kept in mind that ascender should have a tendency to move upward or in arrow mark direction while operator opens safety catch.  The action is to protect rope sheath from abrasion.

Working Principle

Cams installed allow device to move smoothly along rope upward or in the arrow mark direction but clamp to rope when pulled in the opposite direction.
