User questions & answers
Question: | Why does the lantern work with rhe D batteries and not with the rechargeable batteries? I've tried 2 different ones |
Answer: | I only used the rechargeable cpx 6 rechargeable Coleman batteries. No problem. |
Question: | Can you buy the rechargeable cartridge? My will no longer stay charged |
Answer: | It is not available on Amazon; you will have to order it from Coleman directly -- Coleman #CPX 6 rechargeable power cartridge -- if they still make it |
Question: | How do you remove batteries |
Answer: | The battery case is at the bottom of the lantern. Turn it over and you will see two tabs in either side of the battery case itself. Squeeze the tabs in toward the battery one pull the battery out. |
Question: | Is there a warranty on this lantern? The one I bought in April 2014 worked well the first few months but doesn't light anymore, even with a full battery |
Answer: | I bought this lantern over 2 years ago and have had nothing but disappointment with it. The charger quit working within 9 months. One of the 2 lights inside the lantern burned out within the first year. The second light burned out during the 2nd year. What a complete waste of money. I could have researched how to get warranty info, etc. but who has time to do that and why should I have to..... I bought Coleman brand because I thought I could depend on it. But I am just going to research reviews and buy a lantern that has 5 stars from each reviewer. Clearly "Coleman" is no longer a go-to brand. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these come with a tank of propane or do you have to get that separately |
Answer: | It does not come with propane. |
Question: | Does this come with instructions for how to use it? What's a "mantle" a wick |
Answer: | Yes. Mantles are the globe like membranes that contain the burning gas which gives off the light. |
Question: | This lamp it’s advertising that you don’t wed matches to light up and is not true . So I consider this advertising to be false .Why |
Answer: | Some of Colemans lanterns, such as the 1000 lumens model, require matches to light while others, such as the Deluxe Perfectflow, have the InstaStart electronic spark ignition. Others models use baterries. The model 1000 clearly states that it requires matches to light. |
Question: | How does this lantern compare to the Coleman Compact perfect flow. (Other than the 694 lumen difference |
Answer: | HelloLittle Folks Book and Toy is a Coleman dealer. The perfect flow operates the same way except that when you want to store it, the glass shield is protected because the top pulls down. As far as the efficiency of the product, both function and have similar light capacity with the perfect flow a little more luminescence. In our opinion, this comes down to design and the ability to store one of the products more efficiently than the other. Sincerely;Barbara J.Customer Service ManagerLittle Folks Book and Toy Company |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to use it for fishing at night around lakes. Do you think it will produce enough light |
Answer: | The gasoline lantern is the best for night fishing . The reason for this is it is brighter than propane or battery. And burns much hotter than even propane which might seem like a disadvantage but insects mostly mosquitos that can plaque night fisherman fly to the light source and are fried by the heat. In my experience even propane does not compare to gasoline lantern in this aspect. Which for any one who has fished much in summer months where mosquitos are a problem knows what I am talking about. |
Question: | Can anyone say where these are made |
Answer: | Says "China" on the bottom of mine. |
Question: | How do I install the 8 batteries? what secures them in the lamp |
Answer: | 1. With lantern turned off, turn it upside down and unscrew base by rotating counterclockwise. 2. Install 8 batteries in the correct orientation as shown on the battery housing. Be careful that all 8 batteries are installed correctly (be careful about positive and negative battery orientation. There is picture in the directions but you can also check the battery housing. 3. Replace the base by screwing clockwise until hand tight. Check that the base is secure and closed. |
Question: | Does it have carrying handles |

About Coleman
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.
In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | It the ventilator piece supposed to be loose fitting |
Answer: | I presume you are referring to the piece atop the lantern, uppermost except for that part of the handle that extends above everything else. The one on mine is not loose fitting. I don't know why, but I was kind of expecting that it might be. Makes me think I had another or other Coleman lantern(s) with a looser fit than this one. I'm sure of it. It bothered me they were loose fitting, but it never caused a problem because the knob holding them in place was tightened down, so the looseness of that piece would have nothing to do with loosening them, and the fact they were loose never led to any excess wind getting into and extinguishing the lantern. So, if yours is tight (but you were expecting it not to be) I don't anticipate that will be a problem. If it is slightly loose, but the knob still tightens down, snug, I anticipate no problem there either. |
Question: | It says "features coleman's insta start battery ignition." is there a battery and what kind |
Answer: | It's a pezo igniter. No battery. |
Question: | Long long do the mantles last on this lantern |
Answer: | That's a difficult question. Mantles turn to almost ash after the initial burn. If there is no jarring bumping etc they will last close to 100 hour burn time? I've used them without changing three camping trips in a season. I've even packed up end of one season and fire up with no problem next season. Then again I've put in a new set. Dropped the lantern and as the song goes - ashes ashes we all fall down. Mantles are cheap I always pack extras. Like a good Scout always be prepared. Hope that helps. |
Question: | where do I find the light that fits on top of the tree...have been looking |
Answer: | Any of the lights that sit on top of the Coleman 5 lb propane tanks will fit on the tree, including this one. |

Question: | Are these water resistant? For example; if it rains all week while we are camping will they survive |

Question: | Is there an option to plug them in to an outlet |
Answer: | No they are entirely battery operated with 3 AA batteries. I have used them many many many nights without having to replace the batteries because they are LED lights and don't use much power |
Question: | how long is this product |
Answer: | Got out the yard stick and measured! They are 6' long with a couple of inches left at the controller end. I have a 10'x10' tent and I want 2 sets per side and a couple of sets to free-stand on my tables. I use mine for craft fairs so they are always accessible! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the fuel capacity of the tank |
Answer: | The fuel capacity of the tank is 1.3 pints. When I received mine I added just a splash of coleman fuel into the tank to test it out and I was very impressed on how long the lantern ran on such a minimal amount of fuel. I intentionally added just a small amount so I could test it out and then store it empty. It ran for hours on that tiny amount of fuel. |
Question: | Where is it made? China |
Answer: | The globes are made in China. The lanterns themselves are made in US (Wichita, KS). Coleman always had their globes made for them by another company. |
Question: | Does this package include a fuel funnel |
Answer: | I would like to buy more funnel |
Question: | can you use it with any kind of fuel? (like from a gas station |
Answer: | Yes, that is essentially why it is marketed as 'duel fuel; which I take to believe gasoline or 'white gas' / Coleman fuel / Naptha. Kerosene would probably not work, and I wouldn't advise trying it. |
