  • Coleman lanterns are designed to be easy to maintain. They often come with clear instructions for tasks like fueling, lighting, and mantle replacement.

About Coleman

More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.

In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

  • Durable lantern for camping and outdoor use
  • Dual-Fuel technology lets you use Coleman Liquid Fuel or unleaded gasoline
  • All Season Strong technology for reliable operation in all weather conditions
  • Bail handle makes carrying and hanging the lantern easy
  • Adjustable control knob to dial in the perfect level of brightness

User questions & answers

Question: Is it quiet? I imagine the propane and isobutane lanterns would be loud like a msr pocket rocket
Answer: I think its quiet. Just a gently hissing sound.
Question: Is the coleman premium dual fuel lantern the same as the coleman premium powerhouse® dual fuel lantern
Answer: I dont think so.It may like a upgrade version of "dual fuel" model, higher lumes(1107 lumes VS 861 Lumes). This is one of my LOVE lantern. Very nice for camping.
Question: Can this Northstar lantern be used safely inside a house; eg. during a power interruption
Answer: I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING ANY PROPANE, COLEMAN LIQUID FUEL OR UNLEADED FUEL LANTERNS, INDOORS......EVER! DO NOT PUT YOUR LIFE OR OTHER LIVES AT RISK, JUST TO USE A LANTERN IN DOORS.........GO BUY A BATTERY OPERATED LANTERN. PLAY IT SAFE!
Question: how often do you have to replace those string tie mantles
Answer: Once the mantles lights up for the first time, it burns off and seems to crystallize it's shape. So it is important (I'm adding this part) to tie them on correctly. Tie them on loosely but tight. If loose enough, it will allow shock if you bump the lantern.. if tight and you bump it, it will damage the mantle. You want the mantles to hang down as far as they can before you tie them on.. this helps with the long round shape it will form as it expands for the first time when it is lighted the first time. How can I explain this... the string goes through an area (like a sleeve of a jacket) that is large enough for a fatter string.. so you have room to have the mantle pulled down where the string is in the top of its sleeve area. Once this crystallization happens, the mantles are fragile and set. If you shake, drop, touch.. it breaks. So once the setting happens, that's it...the shape is done. If you tighten it where the mantle 'globe' is small, you will have less laminates less brightness. So this is a trick of the trade/secrete to bright output. They sell these mantles everywhere it seems for what... $3-$5. Always have an extra set spare.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the fuel capacity of the tank
Answer: The fuel capacity of the tank is 1.3 pints. When I received mine I added just a splash of coleman fuel into the tank to test it out and I was very impressed on how long the lantern ran on such a minimal amount of fuel. I intentionally added just a small amount so I could test it out and then store it empty. It ran for hours on that tiny amount of fuel.
Question: Where is it made? China
Answer: The globes are made in China. The lanterns themselves are made in US (Wichita, KS). Coleman always had their globes made for them by another company.
Question: Does this package include a fuel funnel
Answer: I would like to buy more funnel
Question: can you use it with any kind of fuel? (like from a gas station
Answer: Yes, that is essentially why it is marketed as 'duel fuel; which I take to believe gasoline or 'white gas' / Coleman fuel / Naptha. Kerosene would probably not work, and I wouldn't advise trying it.

THE OUTSIDE IS CALLING

There’s an adventure outside—and it’s waiting for you. The best part? You don’t need to go too far to find it. From your first camping trip to weekends at the lake, Coleman has always been there. So, grab your friends, your family, your gear and get ready for wherever adventure takes you.

WHERE WE STARTED

It all began when we created the first portable, gas-powered lantern that illuminated the first evening football game west of the Mississippi. In WWII, our camping stoves transformed the way soldiers ate in the field. We continued to revolutionize the outdoors with our cooler manufacturing in the 1950s, and in the decades that followed we added tents, sleeping bags, lighting, and more.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

After 120 years, Coleman gear is everywhere you are: on the trail, by the lake, at the campsite, or in your own backyard. We're always around a place where there are friends, coolers, and campfires. So, grab a tent, fire up a grill, and pull up a chair. The Outside Is Calling. Answer it.

User questions & answers

Question: I have installed 4, D rechargeable lithium batteries, can I get a charger that will plug into this unit, to charge the batteries
Answer: Yes it is. You can pull the panels off the base that you don't want to use when the base is on. Or if you're want to use the panels independently when taken off the base they work that way as well. The base works great without any panels on it, in fact it may be a little brighter than the individual panels.
Question: how strong is the magnet on the backs of the panels
Answer: These are pretty heavy duty, so it could work depending on the weight of the door.
Question: Does this lantern use the cpx6 rechargeable battery pack
Answer: yes this is appropriate for any door. I have two. One stops a 2.5" 40" wide wood door and the floor is marble. The other stops a 32" x 96" patio door and the floor is wood. If it can stop these doors, it can stop any door. I don't think the floor surface matters.
Question: Is it possible to have one of the panels be on, while the rest of the panels and the light(s) on the base are off
Answer: Yes. I have used them on laminate floors and they hold well.Doors with automatic closers may be an issue; currently (on tile floors) I 'double up' and use two of them in order to overcome the spring mechanism.Good door stops.

User questions & answers

Question: Hot Can it properly close
Answer: No dimmer switch but you can lower it to dim the light. We have used them several times and have no complaints!
Question: Where is it made
Answer: If the lumens are the same then there may not be a difference. Perhaps they just wanted to move the "gold" lanterns by making them cheaper. on my order, The cap at the bottom that opens the battery compartment broke rather quickly on one of the lanterns. It is not heavy duty. I would check to see if the black lanterns are "heavy duty".
Question: I want to get it for my grandsons age 4 and
Answer: No. All 4 are in one box.
Question: all reviewers got the product free, has anyone actually bought the product
Answer: You can dim them by partially closing, but the led's are pretty bright. I would look for something with a frosted type glass for use around kids personally, ive seen several options on amazon.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the lantern has the rechargeable cartridge included
Answer: It's no rechargeable. But you can't buy rechargeable D battery with external battery charger.
Question: Is the coleman classic LED
Answer: Yes. If you look at the product name is says Personal Size LED Lantern.
Question: Does tbis come with the charging cable
Answer: No, it's no rechargeable. But you can't buy rechargeable D batteries with external battery charger.
Question: Description conflict. Short description describes "optional" rechargeable pack. Written description states recharge pack included.Which is correct
Answer: Right; I was hoping it was going to come with the CPX-6 rechargeable pack, but it doesn't. It only comes with the "pack" into which you can load four "D" batteries. If you want to use the CPX-6 rechargeable pack, you need to buy one separately. That said, I really do like the fact that the rechargeable pack will fit in any CPX-6 Coleman product. For example, I also have the Table Lamp, and so I can snap the CPX-6 rechargeable pack into either that or this lantern, depending on the kind of light I desire. I haven't had either one long enough to be able to tell you how long the rechargeable pack keeps it lit versus using 4 fresh alkaline batteries.
