User questions & answers

Question: Does this now come in carbon steel
Answer: we don't have carbon steel for this model, thanks
Question: Hello the Mora knife with 8.1 inch blade is it full tang....Thank you
Answer: Don’t worry about it. Full tang is an over rated buzz word. Mora stuff is well engineered and constructed. It you break this it won’t be in the tang unless you abuse the hell out of it.
Question: would this work as a fillet knife? how fllexible is the blade for that use
Answer: It would work and it would work on rather large fish. However, the blade is rather thick. It's much thicker than the average knife designed for filleting. I actually use it instead of a machete here in the jungles of Southern Thailand where I live. It's good for cutting through vines and small-diameter plants. The blade is simply too long for much else. I only bought it because it was one of the few Mora Knives that I didn't have. I love Mora quality/price.
Question: I know most of mora knives are not full tang, is the 8.1 full tang
Answer: Full tang advantage is not applying on Mora knives; they are rugged built at the handle, don't let the looks trick you. Mora use high quality materials, even the plastic handles are top notch.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this a good all around knife for fishing? I'm not using it for filleting, but as a bait knife or cutting line
Answer: This is likely overkill for fishing unless you're doing it deep in the backcountry. Mora does make a cork-handled serrated knife that might be a better choice for cutting line and bait. Shorter more controllable blade and it floats.
Question: Does the Garberg fit into the Kansbol sheath
Answer: Yes. The garberg is almost too grip heavy but the sheath still does a decent job.
Question: This knife blade is shorter than the mora 2000, is this knife legitimate? According to Amazion, both the Kansbol and 2000 have a 4.3 inch blade
Answer: Just measured mine to 4.25From what I've read from fans of the Mora 2000 this is a slight upgrade of the same knife.
Question: Full Tang
Answer: No, it is a 3 quarter tang.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the blade ratain solidly in the sheath no matter which way its facing
Answer: Fairly good retention with the molded sheath
Question: Can the pictues knife sheath be attached to your belt like a regular sheath, like does it have a regular belt loop
Answer: Yes, it comes with two styles of attaching the sheath. It has one for a belt loop and one that can be attached to a molle system.
Question: Does the blade ratain solidly in the sheath no matter which way its facing? Basically asking if its able to do left hand carry with the platic sheath
Answer: Greetings.... Yes, it locks either way it is inserted and holds very well. With the Multi Sheath it is the same.... use it left or right handed.... my only concern about the knife I purchased is it does not have the Morakniv logo oneither side of the blade. I have a couple friends that have the same knife and they all have the logo. I contacted Mora and they stated they do not sell any unmarked knives as that is part of the inspection process. This one is identical to the others, boxing, build, weight and maintains an edge etc.... Even without the logo I would recommend this knife. I use mine but do not abuse it. It will last a very long time....
Question: Pictures suggest it had a smooth spine I think amazon needs to check themselves cuz I know this knife has a sharp spine
Answer: The spine’s back is smooth; however, the edges of the spine are sharp. It’s perfect for throwing sparks with a Fero Rod.

User questions & answers

Question: how sharp does the knife come??? Does the sheath keep the knife held in place??? Will the back of this blade work with my fire steel
Answer: The knives come sharp and hold an edge. The sheath holds the knife snug and the knife snaps in. I use mine as a neck knife. I filed a flat edge on the back of the blade next to the handle for that purpose and it works well. I love these knives and own several. I have given a lot away and everyone has loved them.
Question: Is this knife full tang
Answer: This knife is Pootie Tang.
Question: is this knife good for salt water
Answer: No! This knife is made of carbon steel and will rust. There are other versions of this same knife such as this one (http://www.amazon.com/Mora-Companion-Stainless-Steel-Fixed/dp/B004ZAIXSC/ref=pd_sim_sg_8 ) in stainless that would be much better suited for use around salt water.
Question: Why can't you ship to Ventura County, CA
Answer: Despite what our opinionated Amazon friends from Texas might believe, California has some of the most permissive laws regarding knives in the entire country. However, local laws in LA County and Ventura County do not allow the possession of a knife greater than three inches. "Liberal" San Francisco doesn't have any of these restrictions, and it is 100% legal to open carry a samurai sword on Market Street. My recommendation is that you have the knife shipped to a friend in SF or the Central Valley. Hope this helps!

Morakniv

There’s a long tradition of knife making in Mora. We have been creating sharp knives for the rest of the world for more than 400 years. For Morakniv the journey started in 1891 when Frost-Erik Erson returned to his home village of Östnor in Mora after four years in North America. When he opened his timber sled factory the first seed was sewn to what would eventually become the company and the brand that we know today – Morakniv.

Question: Is this a carbon blade
Answer: Honestly, Victorinox Swiss Army knife sets the standard. Victorinox is much expensive than morpilot. But the quality.sharpness, durability. I don't think that they have a great difference. I wanted to just get the basic Swiss army knife and thought it was really cool that morpilot came with the fire starter. The fire starter is really cool for camping.

User questions & answers

Question: I was wondering if this sheath would fit a Terava 110mm puuko
Answer: Idk because the sheath fits the knife perfectly so if the knife is the same then it should
Question: Is the spine 90 degrees
Answer: The one I got was not a clean 90 degrees. I filed it a bit to get the nice sharp corners that I wanted.
Question: blade thickness at the spine
Answer: Mine measures .0985 at the spine with my micrometer, so that would be 2.5 mm.
Question: Would this make a good dive knife
Answer: No, it's too big for a dive knife. There is really no reason to carry a knife this long in the water. If you really need to cut fishing line or rope you are better off with a serrated blade. Something like this is a way better choice: https://www.amazon.com/ScubaMax-Density-Stainless-Steel-Yellow/dp/B073QFDRVX/ref=sr_1_32_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1527130759&sr=8-32-spons&keywords=dive+knife&psc=1 From a Divemaster with 18 years of diving experience.

User questions & answers

Question: Hi. I have large hands (glove size large) and wonder if the handle would be small
Answer: The handle should fit your hands well. The overall length of the handle is 4.5". It is is very "grippy". I own a number of Moras; including the Bushcraft Black, and the handle on the 2000 is the best of them all. The 2000 does not have a 90° spine, it is somewhat rounded , so it doesn't strike a ferro rod well. A file or grinder will quickly remedy that. The Mora sheath is just okay, it works, but I bought an inexpensive leather sheath on Amazon for it.The 2000 is a very good all around knife for use around camp, bushcraft and general purpose. Like all Moras, they are paper cutting sharp out of the box, so be careful with it, it can easily "bite" you. Strop it and you've got a razor.
Question: does Mora make an adult version of this knife
Answer: This is the "adult version". The 2000 does not have a blunt tip "kid's" version like some other models do.
Question: Which is better Morakniv Outdoor 2000 or Morakniv Bushcraft Carbon (black)? Thanks in advance
Answer: I would have to say that it is totally up to the user and what type of purpose that you will be using the knife for. I do not own a bushcraft Carbon so I can't give you an accurate comparison. I can say that the 2000 is a very well made knife and holds a very good edge. I use it for everything from cutting thick leather to cardboard. The thickness of the blade will ensure that it will last for a very long time. My personal recommendation would be to get a 2000. It will not dissapoint.
Question: The sheath appears right- and left-hand symmetric, so you can draw the knife by either hand. Is this true? Being left-handed, I care
Answer: The sheath is right and left hand symmetric. The handle is symmetrical as well. I've had mine since 2010. Took it to Costa Rica and camped on the beach for a month. I have loved this knife since the moment I got it, which was a relief because its hard to tell what you are going to get for the price.

User questions & answers

Question: Can the Morakniv companion knife be used to field dress deer
Answer: Yes, I have field dressed two with it. The bigger the knife the clumsier it is.
Question: This is stainless steel blade correct? The chart on the companion blade says that heavy duty knife is carbon
Answer: They come in both. Carbon is stronger but stainless is more corrosion resistant. Both can rust if not cleaned and dried. People make the mistake that stainless means the knife won't rust, but it will if not cared for properly.
Question: Why is this black version more expensive than the olive green
Answer: The Black Companion Heavy Duty is stainless blade and the MG Companion Heavy Duty is a carbon blade. Prices will fluctuate as well.
Question: What is the difference between carbon and stainless
Answer: Carbon is harder and holds a better edge but rust and discolors easily. Stainless will also rust but requires less maintenance to keep the rust off. I think stainless is easier to sharpen, but I could be wrong. If you use the knife in a rainy area or around the water a lot stainless is the way to go. If you are really into treating the knife like your baby and put in the time to take care of it carbon is arguably a better steel.
