13 best kukri knives

Kukri knives are traditional Nepalese blades known for their distinctive curved shape and versatile functionality. These knives have a rich history and are widely used not only in Nepal but also by people worldwide for various purposes, including camping, hiking, outdoor recreation, and even as utility tools.

Key features of kukri knives include:

  1. Curved Blade: The most recognizable feature of a kukri knife is its inwardly curved blade. This design allows for efficient chopping, slicing, and cutting. The curved shape concentrates the force at the point of impact, making it a formidable tool for cutting through a variety of materials.

  2. Spine and Bevel: Kukri knives typically have a thick spine that tapers down to a sharp edge. The angle of the bevel can vary, but it's often designed to balance between chopping power and slicing ability. This design makes kukris versatile for a wide range of tasks.

  3. Full Tang Construction: Many kukri knives have a full tang, meaning the blade extends through the handle, providing strength and stability. This construction is ideal for heavy-duty tasks and ensures the knife's durability.

  4. Sheath: Kukri knives often come with a sheath made of wood, leather, or other materials. The sheath helps protect the blade when not in use and allows for safe and convenient carry.

  5. Traditional Symbolism: Kukri knives are more than just tools; they are deeply embedded in Nepalese culture and history. They are often used in religious ceremonies and are considered a symbol of bravery and honor.

  6. Variations: While the basic design of the kukri remains consistent, there are numerous variations in size, shape, and materials used for the handle. Some kukris are purely functional, while others are ornately decorated.

Kukri knives have gained popularity outside of Nepal due to their versatility and unique design. Outdoor enthusiasts, survivalists, and collectors appreciate them for their utility and cultural significance. Whether you're camping, hiking, or simply looking for a reliable and distinctive fixed-blade knife, a kukri can be a great choice. Just remember to handle it responsibly and with respect for its cultural heritage.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the loose-fitting sheath cause dulling of the edge since it rattles
Answer: No, but you can remove the little screen you see pictured on top.
Question: How thick
Answer: It is 31 inches tall
Question: where is this made
Answer: Just a barrel and a nozzle.
Question: Is it worth the money? A YouTuber that reviews blades reviewed this machete and by the end it had a big crack
Answer: You don't want a rain barrel made of wood. The wood is good as long as it ALWAYS has water in it (full - like a whiskey barrel), but when it is full then empty the wood shrinks back up and leaks. Plastic that looks like wood is better for water. If you want real wood for something other than liquid, then wood would be great.

Kershaw Camp Series

No longer just for protection against a zombie apocalypse, the Camp family series from Kershaw are big-bladed, powerful, intense machetes perfect for campsites or blazing a trail. The Camp series comes in a variety of blade shapes, steels and handle grips. From clearing brush to making kindling, Camp machetes can slash, hack, split and scrape just about any material for any task. Contoured and ergonomic handles with built-in hand guards have drilled lanyard holes for optimal carrying versatility. The Kershaw Camp series offers the biggest, baddest blades built for toughness and wear resistance.

High-Performance Steel

Popular in Kershaw’s Camp series of machetes, the 65MN steel is tough, durable and designed for hard-use applications. 65MN steel is a readily-available Chinese steel that is formulated and manufactured to provide excellent wear resistance, hardness and strength. The medium-high carbon content adds a high degree of toughness and resilience to this high-performing, rugged, solid steel.

Attractive Blade Coating

A powder coat on a blade creates a smooth, even and tough coating. Applied as a fine powder or cured under heat, powder coating offers blade protection, non-glare, low reflectivity and striking looks. Blade can be coated in a variety of colors using a powder coat and is intended for light use, or collectable knives.

Durable Handle

A rubber overmold is a textured rubber layer on the handle scale that provides extra grip, usually molded over a solid polymer handle. With an attractive appearance and exceptional performance, a rubber overmold allows the knife to become more function and durability when in use. Rubber overmolds are textured and detailed to provide a more secure, more safe, nonslip grip.

User questions & answers

Question: I purchased this khukri and i am in india. apart from payment to amazon, i have been charged rs.1200 extra as duty from dhl? why it is not included
Answer: Sorry not sure about that.
Question: Not good making a sheath. any one know of aftermarket sheath for both kukri and the 2 knives? tia
Answer: I agree with you about the sheath. Unfortunately I do not know of any out there that will have the pockets for the two smaller blades.
Question: How thick is the blade
Answer: The back bone not the edge measures 7mm at the area were the handle is and measures 4mm at the point of the blade. This is a well hand crafted and sturdy kukri.
Question: Ok guys how good is the steel? Does it hold an edge? is the sheath sturdy? As many details as possible is always appreciated
Answer: It holds a great edge. I actually chopped all the way through some sizeable tree limbs and the edge barely dulled. Not surprising since its high carbon spring steel. The sheath is.. okay. You might want a new one made if youre actually planning on using this, because it looks really nice and keeps the blade protected while stored but it sucks for actually carrying the blade around and holding it while doing so. This knife weighs a good 2.5-3 pounds, so you want a good sheath to carry it. Its thick, strong and will suit you well if youre in need of a survival knife/machete/hatchet

User questions & answers

Question: what is the best way to sharpen your 5160 blades
Answer: The best way that I know of is using different grades of wet sandpaper on some kind of high density foam, like an old-school mousepad. You use the foam to retain the rounded edge. It's a time consuming process but if you are patient you can make your edge extremely sharp. I found the full process doing a Google search.

Question: i have an acre of land, with a couple of young trees & bushes. Will this cut branches & limbs without breaking? Say 1" to 2" branches
Answer: It depends if they are soft you may ok. If they are harder ex. Bark on them then I am unsure I would not trust it. So no not 1-2” for it. I would not chance it. It is thick I will say it is 1/4” thick blade. Best bet would small saw or bypass pruners. For other stuff grass, brush, etc should be fine. But it still good investment.
