User questions & answers
Question: | hi,I purchased this axe on June 29,2019 throughAmazon. The head broke off in regular chopping, no abuse..can you process a warranty claim? thanks, gre |
Answer: | Sorry for delay in responding. The handle flares quite a bit at the end? Are you thinking even more? Also, the product no longer comes with a sheath - we had made a very fancy, but ultimately not very durable, sheath out of clear plastic. Instead offer a separate leather sheath with a lifetime guarantee. In the future, may offer a permanent blade guard free with each tool, but still a work in progress. |
Question: | What is the edge length |
Answer: | Hey Amazon Customer - This is not a "Battle Axe" - it is about 2.5 pounds, and stretches about 1.75 feet long - has a good weight, and feels awesome when you hold it, but I have only used it to chop wood, bang in some nails to hold pictures on the wall (I even tried it once to open a beer, but that didn't work well, lol) - Cool to have, but since I am not a trucker, I only have limited uses for it here - you should get it though). |
Question: | Does this item still come with the strike guard? It is mentioned as a problem in the reviews but is not mentioned in the product description |
Answer: | Can throw anything. But seam a bit odd weighted to be a throwing ax |

Helko Werk Traditional Bavarian Woodworker
The Bavarian Woodworker is a full-size German cutting axe, with the heft and power required for heavy felling work. The 3 ½ lb. Rheinland pattern axe head has a sharp, slim, wide-bit blade that will outperform most American pattern axes at cutting work. The pattern is named after Germany's famous Rhein River Valley, a heavily forested region where axes like these have been in use for centuries. This axe is well suited for felling large trees, and can also be used for splitting medium firewood.
Forging
Helko axe heads are individually forged by hand using a drop hammer on open dies. The blacksmith does this work on a drop forge, using tongs to hold and shape the hot steel as a hammer falls repeatedly onto it. The drop hammer runs continuously at remarkable speed, requiring a highly skilled and time-tested smith. The hand-eye coordination and judgment required for this process can only come from years of experience, as every split-second decision ultimately affects the shape and integrity of the final product. Once satisfied with his work, the Smith hammers the Helko Werk crown logo into the cheek. Only minimal supplementary work is performed, allowing each blade to proudly display its forging marks and ensuring that no two pieces are exactly alike. All Helko tools are manufactured in Germany from premium, C50 high grade carbon steel.
Rockwell Hardness
Rockwell hardness is an important factor to consider when evaluating the quality of an axe head. The steel must be tempered just right, without being too soft to hold an edge or hard enough to become brittle. A soft bit will lose its edge quickly, requiring constant sharpening and honing. Conversely, over-hardened bits are liable to chip during normal use. Helko's Master Smiths have cumulatively spent hundreds of years perfecting the hardness and temper of our axes, creating an ideal balance between superior edge holding ability, ease of sharpening, and resistance to chipping. After forging, the heads are hardened and cooled in a continuously running 70°C oil bath. They are then heated to 180-200°C to relieve strain on the surface of the steel and achieve the desired level of hardness. Helko axe and hatchet edges are hardened to approximately 53-56 HRC (Rockwell) up to 30 millimeters from the cutting edge, while the eye is generally left unhardened to prevent cracks in the steel.
Handle Making
The quality of the handle is a significant measure of the tool’s integrity. Helko proudly equips their axes with some of the finest woods available. Our hickory handles are crafted from sustainably sourced Grade A American hickory. Helko promotes environmentally sound, socially beneficial, and economically prosperous management of the world's forests. Our hickory wood is softly air dried over periods of approximately 9 months in order to bring the wood's moisture content down the the proper level. American hickory, growing between 60 and 120 feet high, is a hardwood that maintains remarkable bending properties and flexibility. Hickory is known for its shock absorbing and resistance capabilities. It has a coarse texture and a straight grain, and is highly receptive to oils and finishes. Hickory’s sapwood, or outer layer, is primarily white with shades of brown, while the heartwood is a pale reddish brown.
Leather Sheaths
Our Leather sheaths are made from vegetable tanned, full grain, cowhide leather. The sheaths are made with a heavy duty welt, which is an added strip of leather that rests against the blade, for maximum blade protection. The buckle fasteners are nickel plated with an adjustable strap that will always ensure a tight and snug fit, regardless if the leather stretching over time.
Maintenance & Safety - Take care of your axe, and it will take care of you.
- Fans Say They Can’t Put This Hatchet Down: Each BLADED axe is handcrafted for a balanced feel that’s not too light (causing the axe to become uncontrollable), or too heavy (making it hard to use), so you’ll enjoy throws that feel solid, fun, and easy to stick; In fact, many say this hatchet feels so good that friends are begging to use it
- USA-Made & Ready-To-Throw: Unlike cheaper import hand hatchets that wobble, fall apart, require assembly (or even modification), your BLADED throwing tomahawk is handmade in the USA, with the fully-sharpened steel head pre-installed onto the smooth hickory handle, so you’re ready for action right out of the box; Plus, our All-American quality control means you’ll spend no time tinkering, and more time throwing and chopping
- Premium Heat-Treated Steel Axe That Stays Sharp: Don’t waste time with low-quality import survival hatchets or cheap throwing axes that break, chip, and shatter after only a handful of throws; Throwers say this durable forged 4140 steel head stays sharp longer than soft steel options - and they say the friction-fit doesn’t wobble or slip off (even after a full season of competition)
- Premium Hickory Axe Handle Stops Slips: As soon as the flame-hardened hickory handle hits your hand you’ll know this is a competition-ready throwing axe you can trust; Using long-grain cuts of American Hickory, each handle is hand-turned and then fire-roasted for maximum durability that won’t split, splinter or shatter - your handle is then sanded and lacquered for a smooth feel that stops blisters and ends the embarrassment of slipped throws
- Multipurpose Axe For Camping, Chopping & Survival: Not just a great throwing axe, fans say this axe also shreds wood and is a beast of a kindling axe; Plus, the included leather sheath lets you confidently store your BLADED Hatchet in any bag or backpack as a survival hatchet, while keeping your tent, and other precious cargo safe from accidental slices and cuts

Amazing Versatility - Multifunctional Axe
Primarily designed to be used as a throwing axe. The beauty of a 19 inch handle is that it's the perfect length for use as a one or two hand axe! Axe throwing clubs take note - this is one the best axes to throw out there. Works excellent as a camping or multifunction hatchet as well. Blade edge is soft enough to avoid shattering when thrown, and hard enough to hold the professionally sharpened edge.
Friction Fit Head with No Set Screws
A Throwing Axe shouldn’t have a set screw to secure the head to the handle. Ask any professional thrower (or see reviews) and they’ll tell you a friction fit head to handle is the way to go. Your throwing hawk will last longer and so will your handle.
Leather Blade Cover Included
Don't Worry! Each axe comes with a leather sheath.
Caution!: Each blade is professionally sharpened to ensure maximum penetration under current axe throwing rules and regulations. They come extremely sharp right out of the box - be careful when handling.
Premium A Grade American Hickory Handle
A hatchet handle is going to break eventually. But you aren’t helping yourself if you buy handles made from mediocre or low grade wood. Our handles are premium A grade USA American hickory, cut and turned along the wood grain (straight grain handles are stronger), sanded smooth, then fire hardened, and finished with a thick coat of lacquer.
Meets Most Axe Throwing League Standards
Axe throwing clubs and leagues are popping up throughout the nation. This throwing axe meets most axe throwingl eague requirements (including WATL). Typically requirements are:
- 4 inch max blade edge
- 3 lb max overall weight
- 12-19" overall length
These BLADED throwing axes are perfectly suited for backyard throwing as well as axe throwing clubs.

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the thickness of the blade on this hatchet |
Answer: | Yes. the one piece steel handle extends full length of the grip. |
Question: | Does this come with a leather sheath |
Answer: | It is forged, the steel shouldn´t be judged as a knife steel. It should be high carbon, but the particles of a forged steel are forced together mecanically during forging process not chemically by heating during tempering process as a knife. You should think of it as a hammer more than as a knife. it is more likely simmilar to the RMJ tomahawk than to others made out of knife steel, like the ontario rangers, if you are looking for a cutting tool this is not it. it is more like a rock hammer much like the ones used by the geologists. Need less to say, i think it is the best option as a work tool for personnel in service since the equivalent (RMJ) is over 650USD. I hope this helps. |
Question: | what is the Rockwell hardness on the blade |
Answer: | It’s very good for fighting aliens. I’ve used it to chop apart greys when they tried to abduct me for a probe examination. |
Question: | Is this a good personal defense Tomahawk |
Answer: | Not sure, but the foot lotion for me makes my skin really dry and not sure I would put that under my tender arms as I would be afraid of chafing skin. Might be uncomfortable. |
Question: | Is this item full tang |
Answer: | Carpe was specifically made to help manage the sweating caused by hyperhidrosis of the hands and feet, also known as palmar and plantar, or palmoplantar hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis causes moist hands and feet through sweating, and Carpe can be a huge help in reducing this sweating! If the blisters are caused from sweating, Carpe will stop the sweat, which will also stop the blisters! |
Question: | What kind of steel do you use for this tomahawk |
Answer: | Aluminum sesquichlorohydrate..small print. I needed to use a magnifying glass. forms of aluminum are found in antiperspirants. They temporarily blocked sweat ducts thus stop sweating. This active ingredient is more potent because the product has to be absorbed through thicker Issues with the use cancer, Alzheimer's. Read about it online. |
Question: | Is this a good weapon to fight aliens |
Answer: | Nope! We realized folks loved using Carpe on their feet, so we just formally made a separate line to simplify discussion and feedback. As we continue to develop future formula revisions, the two products may diverge, but at the moment, both are exactly the same, and sell at the same price for the same amount. |

ESEE GIBSON AXE
The made in the U.S.A. Gibson Axe was designed by James Gibson as a small, compact axe that will easily fit in a backpack. Gibson’s stated goal was a comfortable using tool that could do most camp chores, as well as being used as a carving axe. The Viking bearded head allows for close up work and the finger grooves / textured scales along with the swell on the end provides an excellent gripping surface when chopping.
Care/Maintenance: ESEE carbon steel knives are made from 1095 steel. 1095 is a top choice for professional cutlery designed for hard use, it will rust and stain if not properly cared for – especially on the cutting edge and around the laser engraving. It is the user's responsibility to keep the blades properly lubricated and cleaned. We suggest using a dry film rust inhibitor such as AWT EXTREME FORCE or AWT NATURES EXTREME.

The design has its heritage in the larger riggers axes of North America, the bearded axes of Northern Europe, and the hatchets that are often modified into camp tools. It’s a carver (bushcraft axe) that you don’t have to feel bad about bringing into the woods with you, or letting it get dirty while doing camp-chores. With a swept toe, flat-grind, large bit length, bearded blade, and a radius under the hammer poll for the web of the user’s hand, it was made to choke up, shave, and do detailed work. The poll is hardened and can be used like a hammer. It helps with balance of the head overall, and gives leverage when choking up. It has a 90 degree spine for scraping tinder and for using a ferro-rod to start fires. The handle was patterned after a vintage design. It has a generous palm swell for added sense of security, a large hatchet eye to provide strength/durability, and a comfortable grip when choking up. This axe will compete directly with many other axes in this popular weight class. The axe will be a good tool for carvers, bushcrafters, green-woodworkers, trappers, hunters, backpackers, day-hikers, off-road bikers, campers, paddlers, tradesmen, ranchers, homesteaders, hobbyists and collectors. It can be worn on a belt, in a hammer/hatchet holster, tucked inside or hung on the outside of a pack, with a sling, in a go-bag, or in a tool box. The Camp-Carver comes standard with a welted leather mask.
