10 best small propane heater for tent

A small propane heater for a tent is a portable heating device designed for use during camping trips to keep the interior of a tent warm and comfortable. Here are some key features and considerations for small propane heaters for tents:

  1. Portable Design: These heaters are compact and lightweight, making them easy to transport and set up in a tent. They are an excellent addition to your camping gear, especially for cold weather camping.

  2. Propane Fuel: Small tent heaters are typically powered by propane gas canisters. Propane is a common and readily available fuel source for camping, making it convenient for outdoor use.

  3. Safety Features: Most small propane heaters come with safety features such as automatic shut-off mechanisms in case of tip-overs or low oxygen levels within the tent. These features are essential to prevent accidents and ensure safe operation.

  4. BTU Rating: The heating capacity of a propane tent heater is measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units). Higher BTU ratings provide more heat output, making them suitable for larger tents or colder weather conditions. It's important to choose a heater with an appropriate BTU rating for your tent size.

  5. Adjustable Heat Settings: Many propane heaters offer adjustable heat settings, allowing you to control the level of warmth inside your tent. This is especially useful for maintaining a comfortable temperature throughout the night.

  6. Ignition System: Some models feature a built-in ignition system for easy and safe lighting, eliminating the need for matches or lighters.

  7. Runtime: The runtime of a propane heater depends on the size of the propane canister and the heat setting used. It's a good idea to carry extra propane canisters if you plan to use the heater for an extended period.

  8. Ventilation: Adequate ventilation is crucial when using a propane heater inside a tent. Make sure your tent has proper ventilation openings to allow fresh air to circulate and prevent the buildup of carbon monoxide.

  9. Fuel Efficiency: Look for heaters that are known for their fuel efficiency, as this can help you save on propane costs during your camping trip.

  10. Noise Level: Some propane heaters may produce noise during operation. Consider this factor if you prefer a quiet camping experience.

  11. Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the burner and checking for any gas leaks, is essential to ensure the safe and efficient operation of your propane heater.

Using a small propane heater for your tent can make camping in cold weather more enjoyable and comfortable. However, it's crucial to follow safety guidelines, including proper ventilation and placement, to ensure a safe camping experience. Always read and follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions for your specific propane heater model.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I store the smaller, 1lb propane tanks on my terrace porch, possibly in a box, overall? in cold winters and hot summers
Answer: For maximum safety, my recommendation is to store propane containers in a weather protected location, such as garage or shed with some natural ventilation. Propane is a highly flammable liquified petroleum gas that vaporizes and expands many-fold very quickly if released to atmospheric pressure, and will form a highly explosive mixture if released in a confined space without outside ventilation. If then ignited by a small spark such as a light switch, the resulting explosion may be catastrophic. There are on-line photos of boats that have exploded from propane leaks in the confined space of a boat cabin with catastrophic results including death of occupants. The cabin top and sides have literally been blown to pieces in such cases. New, sealed bottles of 1 lb size are reasonably safe, but once opened or partly used it is best to store away from occupied spaces. Although the probability is low, the consequences of failure are unacceptable. 20 lb propane containers should never be stored indoors. Play it extra safe and store propane bottles in a garage or outdoor shed. BJG (PE, ichemical engineer, inactive, retired)
Question: can i hook a large propane tank to his
Answer: Yes, any size propane tank can be a source for it when plumbed correctly. The simplest way to go is using the F273704 hose directly off most tanks. That hose needs nothing else and goes direct from the tank to the heater. This model heater only accepts high pressure gas thru the "disposable tank" connection, so other hoses with that connection can be used as well as the "filter" F273699. The "filter" is to take out oils coming from most rubbers in hoses where the high pressure "squeezes" the oil out, but the 704 hose is made "oil-free" to avoid that issue. FYI I tried running this off a regulated low pressure source, but with it on "high" the glow was like "low" setting normally (showing a lack of gas coming thru). So if you have a low pressure source, the "Big Buddy" models have a connection point for such thru a quick disconnect using hoses like F271802 or F271803, but not this model (this one needs high pressure gas to get enough thru it's disposable tank port).
Question: How long with the heater run on low with a propane small cannister
Answer: Best guess is 4-5 hours on low. I sat in a hunting blind for 2.5 hours and the 1lb propane canister was about half empty.
Question: Does anyone know or understand how is it this type of propane heater can be used indoors without causing carbon dioxide poisoning
Answer: As soon as the weather gets cold, I put my Big Buddy Heater on a stand & use a Mr. Heater 12' hose with regulator running to a 20lb. tank in living room. I use the hose with the low pressure regulator on it & hook it up to the quick connect fitting. I have 2 20lb tanks in mint condition, and rotate them as needed. This will be my 7th winter using it. Old windows & doors let air in and I have a carbon monoxide alarm near by. Also use a leak detector to check all connections after hooking up a full tank. If it's really cold, I'll start it on high for a short time, then run it on medium & it keeps living & dining room warm. Cuts my oil bill down greatly.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you HANG this from something
Answer: YES you can hang this heater. It's been done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZsVX6mh8O4
Question: Does anybody have trouble lighting this heater? Seems I need to hold the ignition button in for a minute and it really hurts my thumb
Answer: Hey Spike, I agree with Thomas W. Mine wouldn't start on the first try either. You have to hold the ignition button down, wait a few seconds, then depress again. It's kind of a pain, but it works. A more annoying issue for me was wanting to use it in my golf cart, but with every tiny bump, the safety feature kicked in and off it went. So, it is safer for home use. For the cart, I bought the Coleman Catalytic Heater with the special holder that fits in the cup holders. It's more quiet too. Stay warm!
Question: With an adapter hose can it be used with a large propane cylinder
Answer: Not a problem. Make a 10"x10" box. Nail 2x6 together in the shape of a U. Then put 3/8" inch plywood on top and bottom (3/8" a must on top). Then make a 2 1/4" hole in the center of the top plywood. Next screw the main heater assembly into the filter with the top plywood in between (the two should come together snug leaving a very small separation which will allow the heater to rotate with no chance of a leak but still be secure). Then attach the hose and tank. This box allows for a large tank to be attached, the heater can rotate and the tipsy problem is gone.. Just remember to turn off the tank first to burn up the gas in the line before turning off the heater.
Question: Has anyone used it tent camping? I'm afraid of fire and fumes, but the cub scouts insist in camping in sub freezing temps
Answer: I used it last summer (2017), at night We went to bed late around 1:00 am, and usually by 5:00 am the 1lb tank is already empty and it's went the temp is the lowest, I spent about a tank per night, kept our 8 person tent warm, we have ventilation at the top and all the heat went up but I rather have ventilation that non at all, I'll probably wake up at 5 and replace the propane tank. We camped I bigbear, CA and it was cold at night, I might try an electric heater plugged into my Honda but still you have Carbon monoxide coming from the generator.

User questions & answers

Question: where is it made
Answer: China
Question: In a golf cart, does the wind cause it to go out
Answer: I use it in a covered cart so wind isn't an issue. However I Think it would take a lot of wind to extinguish the burner.
Question: If you had to choose this vs. the Mr. Heater equivalent, which would you choose and why
Answer: I would choose this over Mr. Heater because I plan on camping above 7,000 ft. and Mr. Heater’s safety features are prone to prohibit their use per lack of oxygen levels.
Question: What is the smallest tent you have used this in
Answer: ONLY .. in canvas tents. Period. Really. Think.
Question: Hi , does it come with the tank
Answer: No it does not, but it has everything to hook it up to the propane cylinder.

User questions & answers

Question: How does this connect to the fuel? Is it a hose? Is that included
Answer: Is it because size 10 are a more common size and in higher demand.
Question: Can any one provide a picture of inside, just to see how the butane fuel canister gets installed
Answer: I wear a C width in shoes, but have no problem slipping these on to work in the yard. No problem with them not staying on.
Question: Where can i find the hose to connect it to propane tank
Answer: My feet measure 10.5 and 10-3/4 respectively, and I typically buy size 11-US (44-45EU) shoes; I bought these in size 10-US and they fit perfectly in length and width. A larger size would have been sloppy for me, but this sizing adjustment may not work for everyone. One thing to consider, you can buy with confidence from Amazon, because if you wear them inside the house for a few days (keeping them new) to insure they fit properly, you can always return them within a reasonable time for exchange to a size you believe will work.
Question: What fuel tank and equipment do I need to make it work
Answer: I have a wide foot with a high instep and could not wear them. I normally wear 6.5 W and ordered a 7.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this ul or csa rated
Answer: They slip in and off easily. They have a good grip too, but nothing that requires one to sit down to remove.
Question: Okay,I see the high is 13000 btus and seems to run at about 1 gallon an hour. But what does it run btus at minimum and how many pounds per hour
Answer: Definitely a 9. I bought a pair in size 9 for my friend and she wears 8.5 in ladies and they fit her great. We notice the sloggers run 1/2 size smaller than normal.
Question: How long is hose? Comes ready to connect to standard 20lb tank
Answer: The back of the shoe is 2.5" tall (measured on the outside of the shoe, including the heel and the small lip/rim).
Question: Does this work with small propane bottles, or just large tanks
Answer: Must be the inside. I wear a size 10.5 and they fit comfortably. If that was an inside measurement they would probably be tight.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work off the same butane canister that i use with my jet boil flash
Answer: Yes
Question: What is meant by "Mounts to a gas stove
Answer: It is supposed to be used with EN417 container which is not readily avaiable in USA. You have to obtain another adapter to use cannisters avaiable here. Two connectors would increase the chance of the leak and increase the danger. I am returning it.
Question: Will this work on the 1 lb propane bottles
Answer: Not the regular 1 lb bottle, you'll need an adapter which I'm look ok Ng for now.
Question: Is this "Butane Tent Heater" actually safe for use in tents
Answer: Other indoor heaters actually have a low oxygen shut-off feature which I doubt this has. Even with a low oxygen shut-off feature, I still would not risk my life leaving a heater on while I sleep without a carbon monoxide detector. Even then I probably wouldn't leave it on while I sleep.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used inside a tent
Answer: The insert is removable
Question: I live at 7,157 feet above sea level. Will this work up here
Answer: The inner lining is removable and can be washed separately (I have washed the lining in the washer and also used other insoles I like) but the outer shoe is washable with a hose or a soft scrub brush and you can use soap if you are so inclined. This is my 6th pair of sloggers/clogs and I don't know if I could garden without them!
Question: Will this take the 1lb green coleman tanks
Answer: My shoe size is 7.5, and I was given a pair of Sloggers, size 8. They were too big (long and wide), even with socks. Hopefully, one of the smaller sizes will work.
Question: size in inches
Answer: I have only seen them in Medium width (B); not sure they come in wide or narrow. (B) M is the standard shoe size, so a plain 8 should be the same as the standard size 8 (B) M
Question: Will this last all night
Answer: I absolutely love these outdoor shoes!!! The insoles are removable which means if you have another type of insole you'd like to replace them with, it's posible. The front of the shoes go up far enough to keep out water when watering, plus they're high enough in the back to keep water out when walking in the yard. They are super comfortable with plenty of toe room. They're lined so your feet don't sweat or feel like they're in a glove.
Question: Does it come with fuel
Answer: I wear mine with very thin socks and they were true to size. If you wear thicker socks you will want to size up.
Question: how much to replace fuel tank
Answer: Hmm, that's a good question? I did find the same info about returning your Sloggers to their recycling plant/factory located in Gardena, California, and this website for questionshttp://mailto:[email protected]/ Good luck!
