10 best single burner for camping

A single burner for camping is a portable and compact stove designed for outdoor use during camping, hiking, and other outdoor recreational activities. These stoves are a crucial part of a camper's or backpacker's kit, allowing them to cook meals, boil water, and prepare hot beverages while in the wilderness. Here's what you need to know about single-burner camping stoves:

  1. Portability: Single-burner camping stoves are designed to be lightweight and easy to carry. They are typically compact and can be stowed away in a backpack, making them ideal for backpacking trips.

  2. Fuel Sources: These stoves can run on various fuel sources, including:

    • Propane: Propane stoves are convenient and easy to use. They usually come with disposable propane canisters that are readily available at outdoor stores.

    • Butane: Butane stoves are similar to propane stoves and also use disposable canisters. They are known for their ease of use and reliability.

    • Liquid Fuel: Some camping stoves are designed to run on liquid fuels like white gas, kerosene, or gasoline. These stoves are versatile and perform well in extreme conditions but require more maintenance.

  3. Ignition: Many single-burner camping stoves come with built-in ignition systems, allowing users to light the stove without the need for matches or lighters.

  4. Cooking Power: These stoves are generally capable of producing a high cooking power output, which means they can quickly boil water and cook food efficiently.

  5. Stability: Stability is essential when using a camping stove. Look for stoves with sturdy pot supports and a stable base to prevent accidents while cooking.

  6. Cookware Compatibility: Ensure that the stove is compatible with your cookware. Most single-burner stoves are designed to work with a variety of pot and pan sizes.

  7. Wind Protection: Some stoves come with wind shields or wind screens to protect the flame from wind interference, allowing for more efficient cooking in outdoor conditions.

  8. Fuel Efficiency: Fuel efficiency is a crucial factor, especially for longer trips. Stoves that can maximize fuel usage can help reduce the need to carry large quantities of fuel.

  9. Regulation: Some stoves feature adjustable flame control, allowing you to fine-tune the heat output for different cooking tasks.

  10. Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the stove's longevity and reliable performance. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and care.

  11. Safety: Always prioritize safety when using a camping stove. Keep flammable materials away from the stove, and use it on a stable, flat surface.

  12. Accessories: Consider additional accessories such as carrying cases, repair kits, and fuel canister stabilizers to enhance the convenience and reliability of your camping stove.

When choosing a single burner for camping, it's important to consider your specific needs and the type of camping you'll be doing. Whether you're a minimalist backpacker or a car camper, there's likely a camping stove that suits your cooking requirements and outdoor adventures.

User questions & answers

Question: Can someone tell me where this is made?? trying not to buy anything from china. thanks
Answer: Some people who answered this question need to be little more realistic and objective. Very big portion of current Chinese manufacturing was handed to them by US corporations out of greed. Top %1 who manages WallStreet also places huge pressure on US corporations to be much more profitable (greedy). End result, fire US worker, take manufacturing to China and pay much less. So "they stole from us" is not quite correct.
Question: Does this come with the hose for 16.4 oz propane tank hook up
Answer: Yes the hose to connect the stove to a 1 lb propane bottle comes with the stove.
Question: Can this be used in the house during a blackout type situation
Answer: YES YOU CAN...BUT....EVERYTHING used involving FIRE releases some type of Co2 emissionsyou need to take a few precautions such as using it in a vented area opening windows and having ceiling or portable fans. If you have a hood fan above your electric/gas oven and it vents smoke and fumes outside or to the attic you should definitely place this burner on top of your oven, if it doesn't vent to the outside or attic you'll just be recirculation back inside. Also you NEVER want to leave it unintended and once you're done cooking turn it off. It wouldn't hurt to get a Co2 monitor and place it around 10-12 feet away from your cooking area, having it that distance will keep it from going off unnecessarily yet still let you know if the Co2 levels get high. And above all use some common sense you are cooking over a open flame!!!
Question: On high, how long will a 16.4oz propane cylinder last? How long will a butane canister last
Answer: I actually tested this out to see how long each fuel would last. The 8oz.Butane lasts just a little over 2 full hours on high heat. The 16oz. Propane lasts just over 4 hours on high heat. However, where I live (Boise,Idaho) the elevation is about 2,800 above sea level so that is a factor to take into consideration....different elevations, slightly different results. Also, not every can is going to give you the same results. On average,I'd be comfortable to say that the above times are pretty consistent + or - 10 minutes either way.

User questions & answers

Question: can this burner be used indoors
Answer: I set it on top of my electric range and use it for cooking with a wok. I like gas better for the wok. Works fine, although my house is pretty drafty so I don't have to worry much about ventilation. Downside? Don't leave it setting on the electric stove and turn the electric burner on. Might do a little damage when the gas explodes!
Question: My reason for considering this purchase is if the stove has a low setting, low enough so oatmeal doesn't burn. Some reviewers said yes AND no
Answer: I cook oatmeal on this burner every morning with no additional hardware. turn it very low- as low as possible. if your pot is small, do not cover. if the pot is deep, use a cover. you can pretty much tell if it boils over that the heat is too hi and or the pot is too shallow.
Question: is the unit stable, get hot enough for a wok pan? flat bottomed wok
Answer: Yes! Very stable that's why I got mine, and is great for larger pans/pots. I'm not sure about hot enough for wok but it should as I have cooked large pots of stew. For me it's a great one burner stove.
Question: Does this product includes the connection to the propane tank or do I have to buy a separate hose
Answer: The Coleman 5453A series Propane Stove is supplied complete with the following: 5453-2351 = Grate. R430-565T = Regulator assembly. 5453-3351 = Foot Assy. 5453-1351 = Knob. Note: The Regulator Assembly is the connection to the 16.5 Coleman Propane Fuel tank. A hose would be an addition of your choice if you wanted the propane to be farther away from the stove itself.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I remove the gas cylinder before it is empty for storage
Answer: Absolutely, you wouldn't want to store the gas cylinder attached to burner for an extended period of time.
Question: How much does it weigh
Answer: On my kitchen scale the full gas canister weighs 30.12 oz. and the stove components weigh 24.76 oz. When weighed together as a unit I got 54.86 oz. = 3.43 pounds.
Question: How long does it normally last for one full propane tank? Say, if I cook for about 20 minutes every time, how many times can a propane tank be used
Answer: Usually a tank will last 8 hrs if you leave it at medium heat to low. Depending in the space required to heat. So if you the calculations. 20 min X 3 = 60 min 3X8=24. So about 24 times give or take a few.
Question: Is it sturdy enough to set a cast iron skillet ontop of and cook food without worrying about damaging the burner setup
Answer: Hello. I take this stove camping and canoeing all the time. I use a large, heavy, cast iron skillet with a 11" base, 12" top, 2.25" sides to do my cooking. However, to maintain a hotter oil temperature for frying fish you must cover the cast iron skillet with a lid otherwise the oil will not get hot enough to boil. I purchased a commercial aluminum lid for a stock pot to use. NOW, LISTEN CAREFULLY, the factory propane cylinder PLASTIC BASE WILL NOT WORK and IS DANGEROUS TO USE with this setup. The cast iron skillet I use is much to heavy for safe use and with boiling oil you are heading for disaster. Here is the SOLUTION for a larger, very sturdy base. Get a new or used 12" non-stick fry pan. Take the handle off (grind, bend, or unscrew). File any sharp edges. Drill a 3/8" hole in the center of the pan. Get (1) 3/8" x 1 1/2" or 2" long bolt (depending how deep the non-stick fry pan is), lock nut, 2 washers. Get about 6" of 4" diameter PVC plastic pipe. Get a 4" PVC plastic pipe end cap with a flat bottom. Press, or glue, the PVC end cap onto the 6" long PVC pipe. Drill a 3/8" hole through center. Now assemble stand: non-stick fry pan cooking side faces away or to ground. PVC pipe is now all 1 piece and rests on top of flat surface of fry pan. 3/8" bolt with washer goes inside pipe, through fry pan and is bolted with washer and lock nut making the entire unit 1 piece. DO NOT tighten the 3/8" bolt so tight that it splits the plastic PVC, just snug. The 3/8" bolt should not extend past the lip of the fry pan or it will not sit level. The 1 pound cylinder will fit inside with single burner stove attached. You have just made a much safer base for your Coleman single burner stove. "WARNING" You must still exercise EXTREME CAUTION and CAREFULNESS when cooking with this setup and especially when using HOT OIL (wear oven mitts when removing HOT skillet). You can vary the diameter of the base fry pan for sturdiness, or the PVC pipe height. The cooking surface has now been raised but as long as the ground is solid and flat, or the table sturdy enough, I have not had an issue with tipping. There is a small space between the PVC pipe and the 1 pound cylinder. You can wedge a small twigs in, or plastic, whatever works to tighten the cylinder so it does not shift around or turn while cooking. I pack the PVC and base as 1 piece but you can unbolt them if you have to make 2 smaller items. Best Regards, and Enjoy Cooking With Your Coleman.

User questions & answers

Question: If I use the butane container and need to change to propane (due to freezing temperatures or altitude) is it safe to unscrew the propane and switch
Answer: Yes, Just be quick about it !!
Question: How big is the burner size? Can i use a 12" pan? Thanks
Answer: Measuring diagonally on just the grill part it's 11" and yes a 12" pan would work I have a 13" pot that I use to cook crab outside and it works perfect
Question: can this be used indoors
Answer: I have used it indoors twice and it works fine... no problems at all. Make sure to be as safe indoors as you are outdoors.
Question: Will this accept the weight a 20Qt stainless steel pot of water. Any thoughts on using it for a canning bath
Answer: I would not use anything big enough to cover the butane cover section as if that butane canister being thinner metal gets to hot it becomes a ticking time bomb. If I remember right I'm thinking they don't recommend anything over 10-11" in diameter in pots to keep from reflecting heat back down over butane cover. If using the 1 lb propane bottles probably not an issue. You could also wrap the rubber hose with some reflective aluminum foil that goes into stove.

Question: Can you use a cast iron skillet on this stove

User questions & answers

Question: Does this automatically shut off when it hits a certain temperature
Answer: Yes. The pots and skillet made for the first WindBurners will fit the new WindBurner Group Stove. They all have the same mating attachment and heat exchanger built into the bottom of the cookware.
Question: Does this have an ambient shutoff? I'm looking for a hotplate to use in a homemade smoker, so it would have to be operable up to around 300 degrees
Answer: It does. Perfectly heightwise if you take off the bottom lid off of the 1L pot. With the bottom cup on, the 1L pot sticks out about 1/2 inch. There is room between the 1L pot and the walls of the 1.8L so it would rattle around.
Question: how large is actual burner
Answer: yes, it's only the pot itself
Question: What is the wattage
Answer: Nope!

User questions & answers

Question: I get yellow flame only. I tried to adjust air vent to get blue flame but it didnt work. How do you fix this
Answer: In a factory, with all kinds of metal, and handles. Hope this helps. If you need specifics, look on google. Email the manufacturer.
Question: At what heat level does the soot issue start to fade
Answer: Yes at a slight angle and I had to put a patio block under it to get the mower high enough to get my impact it. But I think it would be the same with any jack. The front wheel is a bit of an issue you must get it at the correct angle to not be in the way of the jack base.
Question: What is the maximum weight that you can put on it. Water is 8 LB per gallon, if using it for canning with a 50 qt capacity pot, would be 100 LB
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry. Inside of the pipe diameter is 2.05 inches. The outside diameter is 2 1/2 inches.
Question: Instructions are not specific to model. Is there only ONE screw that holds the heavy Cast Burner and hose to the stand
Answer: I’m not sure, it comes with one to weld on
