11 best portable camp ovens
A portable camp oven is a versatile outdoor cooking device designed for use during camping and other outdoor activities. Here's what you should know about them:
Purpose: Portable camp ovens are used to bake, roast, and cook a variety of dishes in an outdoor setting. They are perfect for campers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts who want to enjoy hot meals beyond the typical camping fare.
Design: These ovens are specifically designed for outdoor use. They are made from durable materials like cast iron or aluminum to withstand the rigors of camping. The oven typically consists of a cooking chamber with a lid and may have adjustable vents for temperature control.
Fuel Source: Portable camp ovens can be powered by different fuel sources, including campfires, charcoal, and portable camping stoves. Some models are versatile and can use various heat sources, giving users flexibility in choosing how to cook.
Cooking Methods: With a portable camp oven, you can bake bread, cookies, casseroles, and even roast meats. They provide a controlled environment for cooking, making it possible to prepare a wide range of dishes that may not be feasible with traditional campfire cooking methods.
Temperature Control: Many camp ovens have features for controlling cooking temperatures. This can include adjustable legs for regulating the distance from the heat source and adjustable vents or dampers to manage airflow and heat intensity.
Cookware Compatibility: Camp ovens are designed to work with a variety of cookware, including Dutch ovens, skillets, and baking pans. Dutch ovens are particularly popular for campfire baking due to their even heat distribution and versatility.
Portability: As the name suggests, these ovens are portable and relatively easy to transport. They often come with handles or carry bags for convenience. Some models can also be nested with other cookware to save space.
Maintenance: Camp ovens, especially those made of cast iron, require proper care and maintenance to prevent rust and ensure longevity. Seasoning the oven with oil or fat is a common practice to create a non-stick surface and protect it from the elements.
Cooking Tips: Using a camp oven effectively may require some practice. Campers often use techniques such as using a heat ring to elevate the oven, rotating the oven and the lid to evenly distribute heat, and using specific recipes designed for campfire cooking.
Versatility: Portable camp ovens can add variety to outdoor meals and enhance the camping experience. They allow you to cook restaurant-quality meals even in remote locations, making outdoor cooking more enjoyable.
When using a portable camp oven, it's essential to follow safety guidelines, such as ensuring the cooking area is clear of flammable materials and having fire safety equipment on hand. Properly maintained and used, these ovens can be a valuable addition to your outdoor cooking gear.

About Coleman
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.
In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | can you use it over an outside grill |
Answer: | Yes. I use mine on a Weber Q1200. Look at pics because there is a Coleman grill that will melt if you use this on it. |
Question: | What are the interior dimensions of the oven |
Answer: | The outside dimensions are 12x12x12, so the inside dimensions are the same, minus about a 16th of an inch (or a little less, maybe 1/32?) for the thickness of the metal. If you just figure its one cubic foot you're going to be fine. You can find ten inch square bake-ware (muffin tins, cookie sheet, cake pan) on Amazon.com pretty easy. The bake-ware is actually usually on the same page as the oven if you scroll down. |
Question: | I was wondering if anyone actually has tried to use the Coleman oven on top of a woodstove that has a firebox that is thermostaticly controled |
Answer: | I've used it only on a gas stove, either propane or butane. You may need to have a flame right below the oven. If the heat source is too far away, the distance and lack of insulation in the oven may prevent it heating as high as 350 F. |
Question: | Where would one get extra racks for the inside of this unit |
Answer: | I had the same problem, extra racks. They do not sell them. What I did was cut the lower parts of two wire hangers,so you have in your hand two rods the size of the original rack. Now if you want to make it more fancy in a mesh like form, fine. So you put the two rods in the slots and place your pan on top. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My goal is to use Caputo 00 flour which is best cooked at temperatures of 750+ resulting in pizza being done in 2 to 3 minutes. Has anyone tried this |
Answer: | My best pizza to date on this oven was a margarita at a 625 temp and on for about 6 or 7 minutes. The higher temps are OK if you only have one topping or so, but I felt I had more control with the lower temp, especially what making a combo pizza. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Will this oven get to temp in below zero temperatures |
Answer: | I used it in outside temperatures of 20° and it got to 700° but with door open it struggled to stay at 600° |
Question: | How wide is the actual oven. It says 31" in the product description but that's really large if it only cooks a 12" pizza. Are those box dimensions |
Answer: | You are right. The dimensions given are outside packaging dimensions, no the actual products OD. The products OD are 25 3/4w x 14 3/4d x 15"h approx. The stone is 20 x 13. When they say this item can reach 750/800 degrees in 15 minutes they ain't lying. I make perfectly done pizza in 3minutes or less. Read the start up institute tions very carefully as the stone is very fragile and susceptible to cracking from changing temps to fast. A week ago I ordered another one to gift to my brother in Michigan and was put on a waiting list. Good luck |
Question: | I have uses my pizza over twice and both times the pizzas are black and burnt on the bottom even after turning down the heat the second use. ideas |
Answer: | With all the energy coming from below the stone and then radiating upwards the difference between the two locations can be as much a 200°. Get a lasar temp guage and learn your oven. Now to solve the problem, get the stone hot ( put on high) then turn down to medium . Put your pizza in directly on stone until bottom is tan/brown. Then put a pizza pan under the pizza upside down to keep the pizza off the hot stone and finish cooking the top of the pizza. It takes a little experimenting to get it right but when you do this oven is better than a wood burning oven. What else would let u go from room temp to 750° in 15 minutes. Enjoy. I do most every night. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the current model with built-in temperature sensor in the console or separate temperature sensor for the oven ? In the reviews I can see both model |
Answer: | Hi, Patrick. The newer version such as the ones I have and the stainless steel model show here do indeed have a built in temperature gauge/thermometer. If you look closely at the front you will see three gas dials. Left controls left burner.Right the right burner and the middle one controls oven. if you look closely between the middle (oven) gas dial and the right (right stove burner) gas dial you can see the oven temp gauge. Remember this is just a temp gauge only, not a true thermostat. You control oven temp manually by turning your oven gas dial. You can also slightly open door for a minute or so, too, if need be. I do not believe it is as difficult to regulate oven temp as some might lead you to believe. Also both of my ovens temp gauges are SPOT ON accurate. I checked them with several additional thermometers. You will not regret this purchase. I use these ovens for everything from baking cookies and cakes and pastries to casseroles and roasting meats when I have catering gigs that require extra oven space. just remember to occassional turn your pans by 180 degress and swap from top to bottom (items cooking on bottom get moved to top shelf and top shelf item to bottom shelf) occassionally and nothing will burn or scorch. Heck you might very well already have to do that with your home oven. |
Question: | can this be used indoors for self sustainable living if the propane tank is kept outside and connection is through the wall |
Answer: | There's a serious safety/health issue if used indoors. I doubt that any indoor use is approved, but if you must, the room that the stove is in MUST have plenty of fresh air ventilation. Otherwise the burning propane will consume all the oxygen in the room, leaving just carbon monoxide for the people, which will put you to sleep, then kill you. I'm sure everyone has heard about entire families dying due to a faulty heater. Well, the Camp Chef is a great stove/oven, but it makes a very faulty heater. |
Question: | will the oven fit a 13 x 9 pan |
Answer: | yes it will fit 13 x 9 ..also has two oven racks.. |
Question: | I'm looking for an oven for an rv. Now I'd imagine I'd have to probably open a window when in use but how hot does it get to the touch on the outside |
Answer: | Don't use an oven designed for cooking outdoors inside an RV. Most people never use their factory installed RV oven anyway. The most they use are the top burners. I am not comfortable cooking with gas so in my RV I used to use a reg electric hot plate. Just ordered an induction cooking single burner thing. But seriously, don't mess around w your safety. RV fires are no joke. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you bake potatoes in this? Can you make baked fish in this |
Answer: | Hi John, Yes you can bake potatoes in the Omnia Oven. It helps to have the wire rack when cooking potatoes since this keeps the potatoes off the bottom and will allow the air to flow underneath them and they are less likely to get burned on the bottom. You can also bake fish in the Omnia Oven. You might want to check out the Silicone Liner accessory since this makes cleanup a breeze. Hope this information helps. |
Question: | Will this work with a butane stove top |
Answer: | Yes, the Omnia oven will work with a butane stove top. The only heating source it won't work with is an induction plate. Steve |
Question: | Is this the same one that's $69.99 and comes with parchment? I ordered this and it's not here yet but want to save $$ with the other one |
Answer: | Hi. This is Don Bell, proprietor of Pencils Etc. I don't know what another seller provides. I think that the lower price must be for the oven, only, including neither the baking rack nor the disposable parchment papers. The Omnia Oven I sell comes with the baking rack and 12 custom disposable parchment rounds for use on the rack. I manufacture the parchment rounds using a custom die and press. Don |
Question: | Is there any other product like this that is not made of aluminum? Stainless steel is less toxic and lasts longer. Would much prefer that material |
Answer: | Hi, Thank you for your question. There is no Omnia or similar product made other material. The product is approved under FDA standards and similar tests in Europe. I also want to inform about our "Omnia Silicone Liner", with that accessory the food will not touch aluminum. All the best, Gustaf, Omniasweden |
