Answer:	I aliquot the can into zip lock bags, then put them into vacuum seal bags with an oxygen absorber packet, and re-vacuum seal them. This will last for years without further refrigeration. Generally, I can get through a can in 1-2 years, using them for backpacking, so I can't attend to the stability when held for over 5 years.

The bag has a ziplock feature that you can close after you add water, which traps the steam and retains the heat inside the bag. I've never had a cold Mountain House meal from waiting for the cooking process.

Answer:	Hi, as to the expiration date, I just looked at one of my packages of Beef Stroganoff and it is stamped with, "Best by JUL 2046." Most Mountain House products advertise a 20 - 25 year shelf life. However, they also recommend their items be stored at temperatures no greater than 70 degrees to achieve the advertised she lives. One thing I can tell you, my wife and I along with a few friends very much enjoy the taste and consistency of the Beef Stroganoff. After pouring the boiling water in, I do let it stand for 12 minutes instead of the eight to nine minutes. of I hope this helps you make an informed decision.

Answer:	It depends on your appetite and activity. A 2 1/2 serving pouch is 650 calories. Those calories are relatively filling calories but after a long day toting a backpack, likely up and down steep slopes, you will, if you're anything like me, eat the whole pouch and still want/need an after dinner (pre bedtime) snack such as peanut butter crackers (or whatever).Also, after that long hard day, each step likely thinking of a hot dinner, it tastes much much better that it does when just sitting around the house. Although they're not too bad then either. :-)

Answer:	For the most part, Pro-Pak contains 2 servings while the Pouch provides 2 1/2. On my last hike, which was really hydration intensive, I ate smaller than usual dinner portions, though I can usually pack away some serious calories. Before heading out, I jettisoned about 1/3 of each meal, which I had transferred from the pouch to ZipLock bags, in an effort to drop some pack weight. I was quite satisfied with my ~1.5-2 serving sized portion.I believe some could split the Pouch into two full portions, but likely not me. In preparation for my next trip, I feel confident that the 2-servings portion Pro-Pak will suit me fine.Just a few notes on transferring food to Ziplocs. First, most do it to cut down on volume. The Pouches are huge, filled with air, and are fairly inflexible. Ziplocs take up substantially less room in your pack/bear cannister/etc. Second, you likely needn't worry about leaching with Ziploc (and some others) since they are LDPE. Third, the bulk of Pouches can be reduced in size somewhat by poking a hole in the upper part of the bag, squeezing the air out, and sealing with tape. The meal will easily survive the breach for a week or so, so don't sweat it, and may be a more convenient solution for some.

Question:	Doesn't say anything about shelf life. Are these 12 years taste guarantee same as buckets
Answer:	Last year, Mountain house extended the guarantee to 30 years, and they even back-dated this extended guarantee to all their non-dairy food manufactured since 1986, regardless of what freshness date may be stamped on the packaging.
Question:	Are these meals gluten free
Answer:	Some are, Some Aren't. Looks like the Egg meals and Italian Pepper steak are gluten free for sure. I went to the Mountain house site and searched for "Gluten Free" Nothing came up. Their site needs work for sure. They should have a section for Gluten free selections. I'd contact them directly and ask. Hope this helps. BTW, The egg meals aren't that good. They need a lot of tweeking or it's runny, runny egg soup.

Answer:	The food is taste guaranteed for 12 years, but will store for 30years following correct storage protocol. Date on my boxes 2047! Hope this helps.

Question:	How any servings are supposed to be in the cans...10?? Do you have to make the entire can at once, or can you make just a portion
Answer:	If I'm remembering correctly, there are 10 servings in the size #10 Can. You do not have to make it all at once. I think there are measurements on the can for 1 portion servings. As long as you make sure you put the lid back on correctly, the food seems to last just fine for a few weeks. I can't say for any longer then that because my family always eats it all up usually within a few days of me opening a can. It is pretty tasty so it doesn't last long at my home for that reason.
Question:	does it contain bell peppers
Answer:	It doesn't have them floating around in chunks or anything, but I would check the ingredients if you have an allergy. It's just the chili seasoning, noodles, and "beef".
Question:	Is there an expiration date or manufacturing date stamped on the packaging? Are these less than 1 year old when you get them
Answer:	The packages I have received were less than a year old and in good condition. There is an expiration date stamped on all of the Mountain House items I have purchased and you'll have roughly 30 years to enjoy your meals.

Question:	do the packs need to be stored in a certain way or can they be stored in a emergency go bag that is left in the garage where temperature changes
Answer:	They are freeze-dried and should be good for garage temperature fluctuations. The expirations are for many years. For example my most recent purchased of Mountain House, the expiration indicated by 2048 or 29 years from now. If you're concerned about the varied temperature swings, they could be recycled or consumed halfway through their stated life cycle. I would also store them in a dark bag or bin in an area that is furthest away from the temp changes, yet accessible should the garage collapses. Just my 2 cents.

Answer:	Yes, I occasionally do this with the Beef stroganoff rather than heat up water, but I generally have water to drink as I'm eating it.
