Question: | How does the locking arm work with front tire that has fender? Does the locking arm have to be very close to the front brake |
Answer: | No. Because I too have a front fender, I just simply swing the locking arm over to hook the bottom tube of the frame. And it works quite well. |
Question: | My e-bike has fenders. Can I use this rack |
Answer: | I slide the locking arm over to hook the lower tube of the frame. Which works well. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can someone confirm in order to secure the rack in 1 1/4 hitch all i have to do is pull out the red and silver piece using the alan keys |
Answer: | I would imagine so since the Jeep typically has a rear tire. From the description: Fits spare tires ranging from 7-11/16" - 12-1/2" wide Will not fit vehicles with spare-tire-mounted backup cameras. |
Question: | Would it fit a 2" hitch |
Answer: | It does not. The Yakima HitchSki is only compatible with certain hitch racks (RidgeBack, FullTilt). |
Question: | Will this product fit on a jeep with a rear tire |
Answer: | The rack mounts to the spare tire rather than a hitch. I actually had to return mine because the studs on my vehicle were not long enough to accommodate the spare tire and bike mounting bracket at the same time. Hopefully, this information helps. |
Question: | What's the distance between the two support arms |
Answer: | It will be fine |

Gather your friends and head out on a cycling adventure with the Yakima DoubleDown 4 Bike Rack. It'll hold up to four bikes with SwitchBlade anti-sway cradles that keep everything securely in place and eliminate any worries about bikes bumping and scratching along the way. The DoubleDown folds down so you can access the back of your vehicle and add a last minute cooler of tasty beverages or an extra bag of cookies for the road. No more trying to fit a cooler over the headrests in the back seat. When you're done carrying bikes, the support bars fold down and out of the way until you need them for your next adventure.
- CARRY ANY BIKE: DoubleDown 4 is a hanging rack, which allows you to carry any type of bike with traditional frame geometry (bikes with slanted top tubes require TubeTop adapter, sold separately)
- SIMPLE AND SECURE: Easy to install, load, and tilt out of the way when not in use; TriggerFinger technology lets you fold down the arms with one press of a button
- HITCH REQUIRED: Compatible with both 1-1/4” and 2” hitch receivers (class I, II, and III) right out of the box
- SMART DESIGN: Standard SwitchBlade anti-sway cradle eliminates bike-to-bike contact, preventing interference and scratches; Durable powder coat finish
- PROTECT YOUR GEAR: Add a DeadLock (sold separately) to lock your bikes to your hitch mount and the hitch mount to your vehicle
User questions & answers
Question: | Will it actually hold 4 four bikes for sure |
Answer: | Sure! I’d just switch out the type of screw. You literally screw two pieces of wood to the wall to then slide the shelf onto. Super easy to change the screw if needed. |
Question: | Would this fit on a 2012 Subaru Outback |
Answer: | I'm not sure. To install brackets have to be screwed into the wall; so if you are able to drill holes in the tile and insert anchors you may be able to mount on tile. |
Question: | Does this rack fit childrens bikes |
Answer: | It would probably depend on how secure it is on your wall. For instance, ours is not very secure because it is attached to a very uneven brick fireplace, so I have pictures and candles on it and it is fine, but it would put a lot of pressure on it if I put anything over 10 lbs. If you have it on a flat and secure fitting, you will know about how much weight you can put on it by pushing down on it with your hands. |
Question: | Is there any way to lock/attach the rack to my hitch to prevent someone from simply unscrewing the bolt and stealing the rack |
Answer: | Hi there, we do not recommend putting a lot of weight on this. Not super heavy things, but it can definitely hold up things like vases, picture frames, decorations, etc. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it work with a sprinter van and 29in bike tire |
Answer: | I don’t know about the sprinter vans. We have a Suburban and it works great. I set the rack up on an Expedition and the rack was not able to be put in the upright setting with that vehicle, but it still worked fine. I have used this rack to transport mountain bikes of all sizes, from 20” tires to 29” tires. The 29ers fit great. |
Question: | Will this work with a rigid fork mountain bikes |
Answer: | No, this is compatible with suspension-fork bikes only. |
Question: | why doesnt this work for RVs |
Answer: | I believe that Yakima states that because of the extra forces applied to the rack. The amount of RV body that extends past the rear tires causes more bounce and therefore more stress to the rack. That being said my RV is a converted school bus and the back end bounces like crazy. I have put a 1000 miles on the rack with 6 bikes on it, I constantly check it for damage and so far it is holding up exceptionally well. But consider the liability of what you are doing. Depending on the price of the bikes you are putting on there you are looking at risking $3000 dollars upwards of $20,000 if your hauling all your friends top tier trail bikes. |
Question: | Does this bike rack hold 24" wheel kid bike |
Answer: | I use it also with my kids 20 inch and 24 inch Trek mountain bikes with front shocks. I did have trouble hauling a friends cheap 24 inch mountain bike that has narrowing than standard front shocks. |

Question: | I have a rock shox pike fork 160 mm. how do I know which one should I buy. 15 mm or 20 mm |
Answer: | Measure diameter of the thru axle on fork. |
Question: | Is the rear tire strap big enough for a fat tire bike |
Answer: | Hi there, the photo for this size is incorrect. This listing is for a fork adapter, not the Yakima ForkChop carrier as pictured. Question: | Will this fit 4" tire? Yakima website says so, but not here in the specifications |
Answer: | I am sorry, I do not see the chart. Try to find out from the manufacture or seller of your kayak what size you need. Also, I purchased different sizes to see what will work for a kayak but our kayak does not work with this type so go to the seller or brand web site of the kayak you have to see what size & what type you need. Hope this info helps you. |
Question: | what do I need to make this mount onto Whispbar Rail Bars with t-channels |
Answer: | I don't know the size of those, because i use the bigger blue scupper stoppers. Go to the Ocean Kayak website itself. It is difficult to find ( navigate) , but their is a Specification Sheet that gives the diameters. If you can't find it, call the 800 number for them, so they can direct you to it .I finally stumbled on it myslef |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this fit a Wrangler JL |
Answer: | Product did not work very well for what i wanted bracket to do |
Question: | Does this have a ski/snowboard carrier attachment |
Answer: | I don’t have a motion sensor, but I do have 35s (315 70R17) and this lifts the spare about 2” off of the bumper. It adds very little in terms of thickness keeping the spare pretty tight to the tailgate as well. |
Question: | This says hitch rack, but I believe it is the spare-mounted rack, correct |
Answer: | It gives more than enough clearance for that size tire. That’s what I’m running. The wheel should be fine as well since it’s behind the carrier and doesn’t change how it mounts to the jeep. |
Question: | Will this fit an ford e350 spare tire? tire size lt225/75r16 - has 8 holes and i'm concerned it won't fit |
Answer: | It will, however you will not be able to open the tailgate all the way without an extension. |
Question: | For the people who have the jeep with proximity sensors, did you buy the 10526 model |
Answer: | Yes that’s what I use, Also if I May add everyone who sees it comments on it |
Question: | Having issue with Spare sitting on bumper and also motion sensor beeping continuously when in reverse. 35x12.50x22, will this fix issue |
Answer: | I think you would need to purchase this separately. |
Question: | Dose this bracket give a clearance for 315/70r70 (35x12.7x17) mounted on stock (oem) wheel (without wheel offset |
Answer: | Yes they do rotate. I usually position the ones I don't need down when trying to load the bikes. For what it's worth, the rack has worked great so far. In particular the swing down feature of the bar giving access to the trunk is key. I only have 2 comments / small critiques. One, the cradles you use frequently become loose rather quickly so they don't stay in the up position. I have to rest the bike on the bar and adjust the cradles each time. Small thing. Second, once the cradles become loose the whole bike shifts a lot with the wind. You'll probably want to secure them with bungie cords especially for longer drives. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Locking skewer for thru axle fork? The regular one is too short |
Answer: | This would include a mounting bracket . You would need to purchase the screws for your proper installation, drywall, brick ect |
Question: | Does sks lock work with thru axle |
Answer: | Either an 1/8” metal drill bit, or use a nail and hammer. It’s sheet metal, so it’s not terribly thick. |
Question: | Will this fit factory crossbars that dont adjust on 2013dodge grand caravan |
Answer: | I don't have them anymore but it's basically a piece of wood that looks almost like quarter round only thicker that you screw to the wall. You then hang the beam on it. Very easy & a beautiful piece. Also sturdy. |
Question: | Will this fit my 2004 Chevy Suburban factory crossbars? Thanks |
Answer: | The flat side is on the bottom and the angled side is on the top. |
Product features
ROOFTOP MOUNT - FORK MOUNT
Fork mounts make it easy to load and unload your bike and require you to remove the front wheel (which can be stored in your vehicle or on the roof with a wheel fork).
ROOFTOP MOUNT - WHEEL-ON MOUNT
Wheel-on mounts allow you to load and unload your bike fully assembled, meaning it’s ready to go as soon as you get to the trail.
HITCH MOUNT - HANGING TILT RACK
Hanging racks tilt or swing out of the way to access your vehicle’s trunk or hatch. They’re great options for carrying multiple bikes (fit up to 5 bikes), but be aware of the type of bike - anything without traditional geometry may need a top tube adapter.
HITCH MOUNT - TRAY RACK
Tray racks can carry virtually any type of bike (and fit up 2 bikes or 4 with an extension). They offer more spacing between bikes to minimize interference and can either tilt or swing (with an adapter) out of the way while loaded.
