User questions & answers
Question: | Anybody try this on a 2006 Ford Escape? I'm having trouble tightening the bottom strap |
Answer: | Since no one has answered your question I'll take a shot at it. There may have a few causes for "... trouble tightening the bottom strap" assuming it means the rack is not snug, . Make sure the strap is threaded correctly through the buckle so it will grip, not slip when tightened and tie it off around the strap as further assurances it will not slip. The bottom strap may loosen up when the bike is put on the rack so either apply some downward force on the rack or put the bike on the rack before tightening the bottom strap. |
Question: | Will this fit my 2019 Toyota Camry sedan |
Answer: | Yes, as long it doesn’t have a foil. Go to Allen Sports web site look up theUltra Compact Folding 1 and it will show all vehicles that are compatible. |
Question: | if my bike weighs a little more than 35lb, around 38lb for example, will the rack work? will the pedal scratch my car |
Answer: | yes, I don't see the 3lbs as an issue at all. Install so the weight is evenly distributed. As far as the pedals, my bike does not scatch, the mount offsets the pedals. |
Question: | Are there any scratches resulting from this bike rack? I see there are metal hooks that hook the top of the trunk and underneath the... car? Thank you |
Answer: | The hooks are coated with a resin that seems like a semi-hard polyester. You can also put some electrical tape on them to soften the touch. I haven't had any scratching, but if I were driving my brand new $445,000 Lamborghini instead of my 10 year old $6000 Ford Escape, I might hesitate to use this rack. |

User questions & answers
Question: | So this is a weird question, but I'd like to take my bicycle with me on my commute. Can I lock my bicycle to the bike rack using a typical bike lock |
Answer: | Some people are suggesting locking the bike to the car with a cable. It should be noted that ANY cable, even the thickest and most secure ones on the market, can be cut in seconds. A cable of any type is, at best, a deterrent to the casual thief. A serious thief loves cables because they are so easily cut. If you have an expensive bike, the only option worth considering is a U-bolt type of lock. Simply remove your bike from the car rack and lock it to a post. Even U-bolts can be defeated but the time and tools required will send all but the most determined thief looking for easier prey, like a bike with a cable. |
Question: | I have 2000$ bike, is it worth the risk |
Answer: | It was fine for my $1,500 RadRover. It's good up to 70 pounds. What does your bike weigh? |
Question: | How well does this work on a 2010 honda crv |
Answer: | allensportsusa.com/fit-listgo to the allen sports fit list and check to see what is recommended for 2010 honda crv. If it is on the list and instructions are followed when installing, there shouldn't be any problems. |
Question: | Hi guys is it good for volvo suv xc90? does it easy for woman to put the bikes up herself |
Answer: | This rack (or any strap mounted carrier) should not be used on the Volvo XC models. The issue is that the top of the rear door on the XC's is made of extremely brittle fiberglass that can crack if anything (i.e. metal hooks or bike rack straps) is placed in the seem at the top of the rear door. We would recommend installing a receiver hitch on your vehicle and using a hitch mounted carrier. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the pin size |
Answer: | 2.25 inches deep 4 inches wide. They don’t work well in my bird cage. The bars where the water is are horizontal. The bars on the cup holder are fixed in a horizontal position and fit between the cages bars. If it was not soldered in place it could be easily adjusted. Also one of the cups is very loose in its ring. All of these things could be felt with with s trip to the hardware store. I tried to condition my bird but she would not go near the part of the cage I put them in. After 3 weeks I took it out. |
Question: | how do you put a womens bike on this rack |
Answer: | Sorry someone took my ruler & I can't find. I have the cups so I would say 4 inch without lip |
Question: | What's the best way to lock bikes to this rack? I've never used a hitch rack before |
Answer: | This depends on the bird. I have love birds and you can't keep any lid on. I have an Indian ringneck and he always leaves the lid alone so it stays on great. |
Question: | What's the distance between the two carry arms (the ends of the arms |
Answer: | It fits in any 3 1/2" opening, when there are straight sides. It might fit in a round cage, but I do not know for sure. I hope this of some help. |

About Allen Bike Racks
In 1967, after a few years of working on the aerospace technology for the Apollo missions, Dick Allen was out of a job. Government cutbacks led Allen, a Harvard-trained physicist, to transform his garage hobby into a new industry. A cycling enthusiast, inventor, and family man, Allen had a personal need for a bike-carrying device. On weekends, he would take his sons and wife to Cape Cod or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. What proved difficult time and again was the transport of his family's bicycles. Rather than fight through inconvenience with twine and a dinged car, Allen sought an answer for himself as well as a market in which he foresaw major growth possibilities.
Always a pathfinder, Allen took to work in his Lincoln, Massachusetts, garage in search of a more efficient way to transport bikes. Drafting designs during the day and constructing them throughout the night, he put together a model made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding). At first, the Allens tested the prototype on weekend excursions. Finding the first trunk-mounted rack to be a success, Dick started Allen Bike Racks. Dealer acceptance came quickly, and by 1971 Allen Bike Racks were sold nationally through a number of major bicycle distributors. Today, the company owns more than three dozen patents and offers a versatile product line of bike racks while Dick's son Alex now owns and operates the business. What started out as a small garage run operation now operates three warehouses nationally, two factories abroad, and has products sold in more than a dozen countries around the world.

User questions & answers
Question: | About how long does it take to put on/ take off |
Answer: | Made in Mexico |
Question: | prius |
Answer: | Hello there, and thank you for reaching out. We're not longer producing the filters or Brita Squeeze Bottles, these filters are for our Premium Filtering Water Bottles. We hope this helps, for additional questions please reach out to our team at 800-242-7482 and reference number 200910-001362. Have a great day. Ashley from the Brita team |
Question: | my husband said it wont fit cause i have a girls bike and it wont fit his bike cause they are both cruisers w/o a solid straight bar |
Answer: | Nate, I can’t really answer which filter is better as that is a matter of opinion but according to the Brita site, the water bottle filters are effective in removing chlorine taste and odor as well as filtering class VI particulates. Class VI particulates are >50 microns in size. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Does it fold |
Answer: | It doesn't have an exact expiration date. However, I bought this for my 13 yr old daughter. She drinks alot of room temperature water. (I'd say minimum of 6 bottles per day if not more) Because she drinks so much, I replace her filter every 45 days. I think it depends on how much water u think you'd drink daily. On average it can be used about 3 months before being changed out. I hope this helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it hold all types of bike frames |
Answer: | The hole on the rack for the hitch pin is 1/2". This is designed to work with the No Wobble Bolt that is included with the rack. This bolt works to securely tighten the rack when installed on the vehicle and keeps the rack from moving during use. |
Question: | On a sedan, is the trunk space rendered useless when you use this ? Can you open close trunk as usual |
Answer: | The brackets that the straps are attached to rotate around the rack arms, making it fairly easy once you figure out the best position. I actually had 3 women's bikes on the rack with no problems. The straps were on the diagonal bar and the vertical bar below the seat and it was very tight, no movement at all. No issues with women's bikes at all here. |
Question: | Is there any sort of anti-theft device? Can someone just walk up and take it off if the car is parked |
Answer: | If you are talking about leaving the bikes, we purchased the doberman lock and secured the bikes and lock to the straight pole on back, we have two to interweave between the bike wheels and the pole. We also brought a locking pin for the hitch. Never had a problem, we have left them on there while down the shore, on bike trails while we walk or go to get something to eat. |
Question: | What kind of attachment do you need for a woman's bike |
Answer: | On the current version (2016 and newer) hitch racks, the carry arms are 11.5" apart on center. This translates to an outside dimension of approximately 13" |

Shortly afterward, Allen took his design to market, and by 1971 had established a national presence for his product.

About us
Allen Sports has been trusted by outdoor enthusiasts. Allen began his career working on aerospace technology for the Apollo program, until government cutbacks eliminated his job in 1967. That’s when the Harvard-trained physicist embarked on a new mission, transforming his hobby into a brand new industry. A cycling enthusiast and inventor, Allen wanted a way to carry bikes on his car for weekend trips around New England with his family. He was tired of hassling with twine and dinging up his car, so he set out to create a better solution - not only for himself, but also for the growing market he foresaw.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it work on a Jeep Wrangler with a spare tire |
Answer: | It fits in my 2009 Wrangler with the spare tire. The spot on the inside of the rack on the tire side is a little tight, but you can definitely use it and fit a bike on the inside spit, just takes a little maneuvering. We use it on the Jeep with our 5 bikes all the time. The only issue is that you can't open the tailgate more than a few inches, even when the rack is lowered......but otherwise it is fine. |
Question: | How do you put the bike on |
Answer: | We leave the rack raised and lift the bike up, slightly tricky but very doable. Tipping it down saved muscles but seemed more tricky to attach. |
Question: | WIll this clear the rear tire on a Wrangler |
Answer: | Yes but you will only be able to mount 4 bikes on the rack the fifth bike is mounted on the inside or back side of the rack hope this helps |
Question: | will I be able to put toddler bikes on this rack |
Answer: | I was able to put my daughter's 12" bike on this rack. It took a little maneuvering to get it on the second spot from the truck (it was the first one on), but it did fit. I will probably place it on the spot closest to the truck, on the other side of the vertical post. However, just because this one fit, it doesn't mean yours will fit, as there are many different styles of bikes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What does "tilt back for easy lift-gate access" mean? will it tilt back to lift an suv hatch |
Answer: | I have a Chevy Cruze and have a substantial clearing when I raise my trunk |
Question: | Does this sway back and forth while you drive with bikes on it |
Answer: | Yes. Mi,e is new it does sway back and forth. It appears some people answered this about putting the bolt in. The automatic quick release ones do not have a bolt that you put in. It has the locking mechanism on it that is supposed to expand and keep it from wobbling but I can't see it's doing that. Disappointed in that as it makes me feel like it's not entirely safe going down the street. Thought it would be easier to use because it says no tools required to put it on the hitch. But it doesn't seem to be holding as well as the standard ones you palpable through |
Question: | will this rack work with an external spare tire on the back of the car; Toyota RAV |
Answer: | Do not buy any product from this company. We had a 4 bike rack. The frame broke off while we were driving and we lost all 4 bikes. Company would not stand behind warranty |
Question: | I read one review that the person had trouble adapting the hitch to a 2" receiver. Has anyone else had that problem |
Answer: | It comes with an adapter for the 2 inch receiver and am currently using it on my truck with no problems at all. |
