8 best scroll saw accessories

Scroll saw accessories are essential components and add-ons that enhance the functionality and versatility of a scroll saw, a power tool used for intricate and detailed woodworking. These accessories can improve the precision, safety, and efficiency of scroll saw operations. Here are some key scroll saw accessories:

  1. Blades: Scroll saw blades come in various types, including plain-end and pin-end blades. They differ in tooth patterns, sizes, and materials, such as high-speed steel or carbon steel. Choosing the right blade is crucial for different cutting tasks, including intricate designs, bevel cuts, and thick materials.

  2. Blade Clamps: Blade clamps are mechanisms that secure the scroll saw blades in place. Some scroll saws have quick-release blade clamps for easy blade changes, while others require manual tightening.

  3. Table Tilt Mechanism: Some scroll saws feature a tilting table, which allows you to make bevel cuts at various angles. Accessories like a miter gauge or tilt table attachment can improve the accuracy of angled cuts.

  4. Foot Switch: A foot switch is a convenient accessory that allows you to turn the scroll saw on and off without using your hands. It enhances safety and control, especially when making intricate cuts.

  5. Blade Holders: Blade holders are accessories that provide additional support to the scroll saw blade, reducing vibrations and improving cutting accuracy, particularly during delicate work.

  6. Dust Collection System: A dust collection system or attachment can help keep your workspace clean by capturing sawdust and debris generated during cutting. It can also improve visibility and reduce health hazards.

  7. Lighting: Adequate lighting is essential for detailed scroll saw work. LED lights or gooseneck lamps that attach to the scroll saw provide direct illumination to the cutting area.

  8. Magnifying Attachment: For intricate and detailed work, a magnifying attachment can be helpful. It enlarges the cutting area, making it easier to see and follow the lines of the pattern.

  9. Blade Lubrication: Lubrication can extend the life of your scroll saw blades and reduce friction during cutting. Lubrication sticks or brushes are used to apply lubricant to the blade.

  10. Pattern Transfer: Accessories like adhesive pattern paper or carbon paper allow you to transfer patterns onto your workpiece accurately, helping you follow your design precisely.

  11. Hold-Down Foot: A hold-down foot accessory can be used to secure the workpiece, preventing it from lifting during cutting. This improves safety and accuracy, especially when cutting thin or lightweight materials.

  12. Blade Guards: Blade guards are safety accessories that cover the portion of the blade not in use. They minimize the risk of accidental contact with the blade and protect your fingers during scroll saw operations.

  13. Stands and Workbenches: Sturdy stands or workbenches designed for scroll saws provide stability and a comfortable working height. They can also include storage for accessories and materials.

Selecting the right scroll saw accessories depends on your specific woodworking needs and the type of projects you undertake. These accessories can greatly enhance the precision and efficiency of your scroll saw work while ensuring safety and comfort during use.

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone installed this on the Delta 40-694? It appears it is harder to pop the pin when leaving the blade attached to the upper holder
Answer: I've found Frye boots to be very accurate in size. Because these have the fur lining, they may seem a little more snug than other boots to begin with, but after a few uses, they fit just like my other Frye boots.
Question: just what does the lifter do for the dewalt 788 scroll saw
Answer: No these do not. But the toe is more rigid than the sides of the boot.
Question: Why wouldn't someone just snug up the screw on the pivot point on the upper arm at least on the
Answer: I don't think so. I believe they are made out of country. I got a size 9 and they were small and narrow. Had to send them back. I always wear size 9.
Question: I take it that cutting the plastic voids the warranty on the saw, correct
Answer: There are no boot loops. I don't know what a "boot pull" is. I use a bootjack sometimes, to pull them off. I've had no problems getting them on (getting them off isn't the easiest, but they stretch and become easier to pull on and off, over time).

User questions & answers

Question: Is this the newer version? Apparently there is an improvement to this item that makes it more likely to stay where it is positioned
Answer: medium brown
Question: What type of bulb, it said "intermediate" base?? what size is that
Answer: Toe box on Veronica is about same size but shape is more pointy. Soles are not grippy like engineer
Question: what are the electrical properties of the bulb
Answer: I just received these boots within the last two weeks. I own several pair of Frye boots, shoes and sandals which have been bought at various retail stores and directly from Frye as well as Amazon. I have actually ordered 3 different Frye sandals/boots/shoes from Amazon and every time I have ordered, they have been the Frye quality I expect.
Question: What type of bulb does the DW7881 lamp take
Answer: On my pair of 8.5’s, they are 16.5 inches from the bottom of the boot. I hope this helps.
Question: Hello, I'de like to buy this product. Is it possible to send it to France ( Paris ) Thanks
Answer: 15" around, but there are also 2 elastic gores, 1 on either side of the back seam.
Question: Can this be used to mask laser cut pieces
Answer: The calf measures 16", but l got the extended version. They were a little tight at first but after wearing for a while they fit well with skinny jeans and were quite comfortable.
Question: Can I run this through my Inkjet printer
Answer: i'm not sure how long of a period of time you have in mind, but i've spent a half day out in the snow with these and was dry throughout. i've used them in some rain storms too, and as long as the puddles don't go above the leather, you're left nice and dry!
Question: Could this be used to hold layers of veneer together while cutting
Answer: I don't know that there is a rating, but toes seem to get cold easily in most rubber boots. These are nice boots, and look great, but I wouldn't wear them in temps much below freezing for long. Also, I have many boots, but these are some of the heaviest I own. Excellent lug sole for traction in snow.

User questions & answers

Question: I am buying the dewalt 788 scroll saw in looking at this stand i find i cannot sit at it. can anyone recommend a stand brand that i can sit at
Answer: Not sure why you would use a mask on the laser cutter. This is a temporary adhesive. I have used it while cutting .75-1.0 inch thick hardwood and the blade gets very hot. I had no issues removing the product due to the heat but I also control my speed to avoid burning so this is no where near your temperatures.
Question: Will this work with wen scroll saw 24x11x
Answer: Probably not. It’s sticky on one side to apply it to the wood, then the paper is peeled off the other side to attach the pattern. The sticky side won’t go through your printer.
Question: I ordered through Amazon. It didn't have any bolts in the box (which was damaged upon arrival). If you ordered through Amazon did you get bolts
Answer: not exactly sure, as long as the wood i apply it to is good n smoothe n dust free it does good holding my patterns to the wood while im scrollsaw cutting, i would say try it with a small scrap piece first and see how it does for you.
Question: Can anyone tell me what the assembled height (floor to table) is for the scroll saw when it is mounted on this stand
Answer: Sorry the Lifter will not work on the Delta 40-694. It only works on the Dewalt 788 and the Delta 40-690. The Delta 40-694 has a built in mechanism for holding the saw arm in the up position. Frank - Papa's Workshop
Question: Do these fit any scroll saw
Answer: The Dewalt scroll saw arm will not stay in the UP (raised) position by itself. This makes it difficult to move your blade to a new position for an different interior cut in your project. The LIFTER is an accessory for the scroll saw that allows you to latch the saw arm in the UP position when you need to. Then you just unlatch the LIFTER and lower the saw arm so you can continue to make cuts in your pattern. Many folks, including myself, used to prop up the saw arm with a block of wood. Now we don't have that problem anymore. Thanks Frank Carey - Papa's Workshop
Question: Can i order just the number 5 one
Answer: Bill, thanks for the question. What you're suggesting does work - sorta. Here's my thoughts. When you tighten the screw enough to hold up the arm, then there is added resistance when you want to lift the arm. Also when you want to lower the arm you have to also overcome the added resistance. So it does require extra effort on your part to raise and lower the saw arm. Granted if you don't set it too tight, it doesn't take a lot of muscle to raise and lower the arm. But if you're doing a lot of fretwork you'll be raising and lowering the arm a lot. So the extra effort gets kinda old after a while. I tried that method a long time ago and found I didn't care for it. If you make it too tight then the resistance is worse and if you make it too loose then the arm won't stay up. I think I was on a forum some time ago and someone said not to use that method on the Dewalt 788. Sorry but I don't remember which forum. One of the benefits of the Lifter is that it has no added resistance to the raising and lowering of the arm. The Lifter has about 95 reviews on Amazon and about 93 on my Papa's Workshop website. Almost all of them are 5 STAR reviews. If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks - Frank
Question: do they fit the dewalt
Answer: Tamara, I can't answer that Yes or No. In my personal opinion I don't think it would since it doesn't affect the operation of the saw in any way. However, that is just my opinion. You might contact Dewalt Tech Support and see what they say. Here's a number that I found - 1-800-4-dewalt.
Question: What are the tpi for each number? I find they vary according to manufacturer and would like to know if possible
Answer: I have the "Smoke" ones and they have been fine in the rain.

Product features

Upper Blade Clamp

Upper Blade Clamp mounts on the upper saw arm – allowing a saw built for pin end blades to use plain end blades.

Lower Blade Clamp

The Chrome Bracket Assembly with Lower Blade Clamp mounts on the lower saw arm to hold plain end blades.

Fixture for blade holder

The Fixture Block makes it easier to tighten and loosen a blade in the lower blade clamp. ONLY for plain end blades.

Step by step instructions

In 2020, the team at Olson Saw Company modified the kit. Many improvements later, they rewrote the instructions!

In the past, if you had a saw like this – you were limited to just a few blades.

With a greater choice of plain end scroll saw blades – more tooth styles and narrower blades available, people with scroll saws made to use pin end blades can use these ‘more advanced’ blades if they install the Olson Scroll Saw Conversion Kit. This kit converts most 16in. scroll saws to accept plain end blades. The kit can also convert saws made for plain end blades so that they can use pin end blades – although this is less common. Recently the kit was improved, the instructions were revised and we made this video to get the word out. The kit contains all hardware and hex wrenches needed for installation.
