| Answer: | These titanium coated high speed steel (HSS) bits will drill into most steels, but not hard stainless steel. I tried drilling hard stainless with these bits using cutting oil, and the bit just spun around and around without cutting. A better choice for hard stainless is a cobalt steel bit ( an additional secret is to use water, not oil for heat dissipation). The Migiwata cobalt steel bits with water cut through the hardened stainless like a hot knife through butter. For VERY hard steels, you will need an expensive solid silicon carbide bit. |
