| Answer: | I believe the tubes would fit a Syrian hamster, but the cage itself much too small for any type of hamster. This cage is 216 square inches. It is commonly agreed that the bare minimum recommended for both Syrian and Dwarf hamsters is 450 square inches, but bigger is always better! This cage seems like would be great for mice, but if you want a good, cheap cage for a hamster I would suggest purchasing a clear plastic bin. It's a cheap and easy option. I bought a $20 clear Christmas tree storage bin for my hamster, it's about 819 square inches. There is plenty of space and I can leave the top off for ventilation! Many commercial cages you see are far too small for hamsters, and the ones that are big enough can be very expensive.
