9 best heat light for turtle tank
Heat lamps and heat mats are essential components for maintaining the proper temperature in a turtle tank or terrarium for reptiles and amphibians. These heating elements are crucial for creating a comfortable and healthy environment for your pet turtles.
Heat Lamps:
- Heat lamps are a common choice for providing heat in a turtle tank. They emit infrared (IR) heat that can penetrate the water and substrate to warm the entire enclosure.
- The wattage and type of heat bulb you choose depend on the size of your tank and the specific temperature requirements of your turtle species. Basking turtles often require higher temperatures than aquatic turtles.
- Ceramic heat emitters are a popular option because they produce heat without emitting visible light, which can disturb the day-night cycle of your turtles.
- Ensure that the heat lamp is securely mounted above the basking area to prevent accidental contact with your turtles, as the bulbs can get very hot.
Heat Mats:
- Heat mats, also known as under-tank heaters, are another way to provide heat in a turtle tank. They are typically placed beneath the tank to warm the substrate and create a warm basking spot.
- These mats are especially useful for aquatic turtles because they can provide heat directly to the area where the turtles bask or rest.
- It's essential to choose the right size of heat mat for your tank and to monitor the temperature carefully to prevent overheating.
Temperature Control:
- To ensure the optimal temperature for your turtles, it's crucial to use a thermostat or temperature controller with your heat source. This allows you to maintain a consistent and safe temperature range.
- Use a thermometer or temperature gun to regularly monitor the temperatures throughout the tank, including the basking area and water.
Positioning:
- Proper placement of heat sources is essential. The basking area should be warmer than the rest of the tank, simulating the natural environment of your turtle species.
- Turtles are ectothermic, meaning they rely on external heat sources to regulate their body temperature. Providing a basking spot allows them to warm up and digest food effectively.
Species-Specific Requirements:
- Different turtle species have varying temperature requirements. Be sure to research the specific needs of your turtles to provide them with the right heat conditions.
Safety:
- Safety is paramount when using heat lamps and mats. Make sure all equipment is in good condition, secure, and not at risk of falling into the water.
- Keep a watchful eye on your turtles to ensure they do not get too close to the heat source, which could lead to burns or other injuries.
In summary, heat lamps and heat mats are vital tools for maintaining the proper temperature in a turtle tank or terrarium. They help create a comfortable and safe environment for your pet turtles, supporting their health and well-being.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this appropriate for a 10 gallon tank |
Answer: | sorry we don’t carry them |
Question: | this product includes the lamp bulb itself and lamp clip where you would screw the actual lamp bulb into correct |
Answer: | I don't know. I needed an additional and larger soap dish and found a solid gray one at Bed Bath & Beyond that coordinates well. |
Question: | does this include a dimmer |
Answer: | No plastic but it has not broke on me like others I have bought :) |
Question: | I have a turtle and I want to know how many hours per day shall I use the light |
Answer: | Off white but you do not want to purchase this product from the company . I was in a hurry and didn't do my normal investigating. The products are very small and made of very thin cardboard or some type of paper products. If it gets wet I assure you that you might as well find a garbage can to throw it away. I didn't return mine as it was Christmas shopping season, I had it probably a month before I had time to open it to use . Wow what a surprise ! You can barely see the writing on it. With 8 adult children, 23 grandchildren , 3 great-grandchildren and many others we share Christmas with needless to say I had no time to go threw return process. Unless you need something to start a fire with or like paper products for home use I suggest you look elsewhere. I didn't purchase my set just for looks as I was also in process of bathroom remodel, I live in the country and got it to use for the purpose it'seems for. Good luck. |

Zllia Fixtures compatible with Mini Halogen Bulbs
There is no twisting involved when inserting the Zilla Mini Halogen bulbs as required with incandescent. Simply push the bulb, which features G9 technology, into the socket (see picture of G9 style on the right).
Choose the wattage that best suits the needs of the animal and environment, 25 watt or 50 watt. If the light will be on during the day, choose a white or blue, and if on at night, choose the red.
Zilla features several reptile fixtures that are compatible with the Mini Halogen lamps:
Mini Halogen Bulbs vs. Standard Incandescent Bulbs
The high-intensity output of a Zilla Mini Halogen Bulb is more energy efficient than standard incandescent bulbs. Available in three colors, each bulb pin-points light and heat using less power. This provides healthy light and essential warmth in the reptile habitat.
Product description
The Zilla Halogen/UVB combo fixture provides the necessary heat and UVB that most reptiles require from one source. Currently multiple fixtures are used to accomplish this dual requirement. This can overload the top of the terrarium and have an unappealing look. Reptile would have to physically move from the basking Spot to receive heat and then to a different area to receive UVB.
- Heat, light and UVB in one compact fixture!
- Mini Halogen bulb is an energy-efficient heat source while coil bulb provides UV rays essential for reptile health
- Simulates the effects of a mercury vapor lamp but uses less energy and allows for a concentrated basking spot area with overlapping UVB rays
- Uses one Zilla Fluorescent Coil Bulb and one Mini Halogen Bulb - sold separately
- Great for both desert and tropical reptile environments
- Item Height :5 IN /Item Length :9.7 IN /Item Width :6 IN
