3 best fly mask horse
A fly mask for horses is a protective accessory designed to shield a horse's face, eyes, and ears from bothersome insects and the sun. These masks are commonly used during warm months when flies, mosquitoes, and other flying pests are prevalent. Here are some key points about fly masks for horses:
Design: Fly masks are typically made from lightweight, breathable materials like mesh or nylon. They cover the horse's eyes and ears and may extend down the nose. Some designs also cover the horse's face, providing full coverage.
Eye Protection: One of the primary purposes of a fly mask is to protect a horse's eyes from flies and other irritants. The mesh or fabric used in the mask allows for clear vision while keeping insects away.
Ear Coverage: Many fly masks have ear covers that help prevent flies from entering the horse's ears. This can be especially important in regions where biting flies are common.
UV Protection: In addition to insect protection, some fly masks offer UV protection to shield the horse's face from the sun's harmful rays. This is especially valuable for horses with light-colored or pink skin.
Fit: A well-fitting fly mask is crucial to ensure comfort and effectiveness. Most fly masks have adjustable straps that secure the mask in place. It's important to choose the right size for your horse to prevent chafing or discomfort.
Breathability: The materials used in fly masks are chosen for their breathability. This allows air to circulate freely, reducing the risk of overheating in hot weather.
Durability: Look for a fly mask made from durable materials that can withstand outdoor conditions. Reinforced stitching and quality closures (e.g., Velcro, snaps) are important for longevity.
Cleaning: Fly masks can become dirty over time due to sweat, dust, and other outdoor elements. Most fly masks are machine washable or easy to clean with a hose, making maintenance relatively simple.
Styles: Fly masks come in various styles, including standard masks, with or without ears, and extended nose masks for added sun protection. Some masks even have patterns or colors for a bit of style.
Safety: Ensure that the fly mask you choose does not obstruct the horse's vision or breathing in any way. Safety should always be a top priority.
Fly masks for horses are an essential part of equine care in many regions, especially during the warmer months. They help keep horses comfortable by reducing irritation from flies and offering protection from the sun's harmful rays. When selecting a fly mask, consider your horse's specific needs, the climate in your area, and the durability of the product to make the best choice for your equine companion.

Question: | What is the level of uv protection? Their Crusader mask has 70% uv protection |
Answer: | I have a quarter horse and a thoroughbred and it fits loosely a bit I have also used them on very large horses and they do stretch so I would have to say possibly I do believe you could always return it if it doesn't fit |
Question: | What size would fit best for a cob size horse |
Answer: | I ordered the large for 18 year old paint who has the typical quarter horse/paint head-wide with big jaws. If you are buying for a grown Arab, I would get the medium if yearling the small. Good luck. |

Answer: | I have a 15.3 OTTB and a 15.2 TWH and both wear horse size. Hope that helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a 15.3H gelding-- normal sized head and I'm wondering if it would be better to get the arab/cob size versus the horse |
Answer: | It has 70% UV Protection. |
Question: | Will this fit a 19h Belgian |
Answer: | No the velcro fasteners are not elastic. |
Question: | I have a Quarter horse, regular size mare. What size is best |
Answer: | I bought an Arab/Cob size for my 15.2 H Arab and it was borderline too small. I was still able to use it in a pinch but the area from the pole around the throat was tight. I also had one for my pony in a pony size and they were almost identical in size. I am not sure if this was an error in manufacturing or if it is their normal sizing but I found the Arab size pretty small. My Arab has a pretty standard Arabian head....not super dished but definitely has the typical head of an Arabian. He wears a 70”-72” sheet about 850lbs(estimate). |
Question: | Would the yearling size fit a mini donkey |
Answer: | This mask comes without ears. It will help in protecting from the sun. |
