Answer:	The bottom of the heater gets hot however it does not sit fully flat due to the power cable entering thru the bottom.If your crock does not have water in it and the temp goes below 35 degress it will remain on so keep that in consideration.It gets hot enough that it does melt ice. However depending on the width and depth of your crock it may not unfreeze it now or keep it totally unfrozen. I have it at the edge of my pond which is about 6 inches deep and right now with the below zero weather we have been having it is keeping a hole about 1 foot in diameter. Warmer temps in the 20's or so it keeps a larger area unfrozen.

Answer:	This item is only 100 watts and only 'turns on' when temperatures are around 32 degrees. Its operating cost would be minimal.

Answer:	We have a pond that is around 800 gallon. It works in ours. This heater is only made to keep a hole in the ice so all the gasses from decaying stuff under the ice don't kill the fish. Hope this helps. Richard
Question:	How do you turn it on
Answer:	Although I have not measured it, I'd guess it is at least 10 feet. Very long, but it tends to "remember" the coil shape. I put rocks on the cord to keep it from pulling the unit towards shore. I would highly recommend this product for keeping a hole in the ice over the winter. I've bought 2 in the last 7 years and the only reason for the second one was that I dropped the first one and cracked it, rendering it useless. I've also discovered that when the temps get close to or fall below zero, placing a black plastic tarp over the unit will help keep it from freezing up. I have seen it melt and maintain a hole through 6-9 inches of ice. Another thing to remember that once the ice forms and you place it, future snow falls will encase the cord in ice and you will not be able to move it. Allow additional cord so it cal maintain contact with the water.
Question:	Is it 120 watts or 12 watts? what does "12 watts of heating power" mean
Answer:	The unit is a de-icer. Is your pond cover with ice? This is my second unit, the first one lasted 10 years with no problems. I have a Koi pond that is 3,000 gallons and 4 foot deep in the center and the pond with this cold weather is covered with ice 12 inches thick. If your pond is ice covered they suggest you drill a hole thru the ice and place the unit over the hole, it will eventually melt the ice surrounding it, just as mine did. My unit keeps a hole in the 12 inch ice as big as the entire unit. Again this is not a pond heater, it is used to keep an open hole in the ice so the gases that are harmful to the fish can escape. The unit doesn't make any noise and it only gets warm on the bottom when the thermostat calls for heat.

Answer:	Each of the fins attaches to the pole with a set-screw and then when all the fins are attached it sits on the sealed bearing, which makes all the fins spin together, it is very well made and moves easily in the wind, but needs to be in a slightly windy area. Hope this helps.
Question:	Can i use this in zone seven with a 50 gallon outdoor plasic gold fish pond? Should i keep my pump working to for circulation? Thanks
Answer:	Make sure the spinner is level. If you have used a lubricant in the past, dirt and grime may have built up. I suggest to take the spinner apart and clean out the ball bearings with something like WD-40 and leave it at that.
Question:	I have a very small outdoor goldfish pond/small fountain. Only about 15 gallons and only about 13" deep. Will this work and be safe for the fish
Answer:	It is top heavy for stand wobbles in high wind. The copper is terrible it spots in rain and has to be cleaned if you want the shine. I am very disappointed for the price. I should not have any worries at this price.

Answer:	I purchased this for my chicken waterer that I made from a 35 gallon square trash can with horizontal nipples on three sides. It works awesomely! I was worried the 250w heater was not going to be warm enough, so I went with this 500w heater. I have it floating. My nipples are less than twelve inches from the ground. When the garbage can was full of water a few days ago and temperatures dropped to -3 F degrees, the water was nice and warm compared to the outside temps. This heater exceeded my expectations!! Based on my experience, I would purchase only one 750w for your 55 gallon drum. I know you were asking in July, but my experience is based on this winter. Perhaps this will help others. I hope you made the right decision.

Answer:	Solar power doesn’t have a steady current (it fluctuates) and therefore it will not work properly.
Question:	Does it help to keep water in the pond between 60 to 68 degree F
Answer:	Adding one comment to the earlier answer. If your water level gets low (this is a fairly tall heater so you should never go below about 6" of water) and the outside temp is low, there is no safety turnoff. So if it's 30 out and the livestock drink the tank down to a couple inches of water, the heater will glow red until you add water. Not a problem with the product since it can't tell if it is surrounded by cold water or air, just a tip to keep the water at a minimum depth so you don't waste power.

Answer:	I don't know what kind of breaker you're on. If you're on a 10 or 20 amp breaker, it all depends on what else you've got on that circuit. If you're on 120 volt AC current and you add two 750 watt tank heaters, you've added a 25 amp load to your breaker, and it kicked off. I'd advise putting each heater on separate breakers. They may be simply overloading it. Despite my glowing review, which was based on last year's mild winter, this year we have more sub-zero weather. The 750 watt heater in a 75 gallon tank crapped out on me at -10F and so did a separate 40 gallon tank with the 500 watt heater. I then used an old 1,000 watt floater I had around, and that died last night. I had to get two submersible 1500 watt heaters at the local feed & grain. As I type this, it's going down to -12F and I just blew the house breaker I have one of the tank heaters plugged into. It's a 1902 house that got electricity in 1931 and an oddly configured 1964 upgrade. The parlor lights, porch light, and outside outlet are all on one 20 amp circuit as well as pet heaters for two outside cats, and a heated water dish. I'm on my way out to unplug the cord, dig 50 feet of it out of the snow, and try plugging it into a 20 amp plug in my shop in the barn - have to make sure the other heater, which is plugged into a barn outlet, isn't on the same breaker. Trouble is, if it goes out in the night, I won't know it. Well, good luck to us all.

Answer:	How much of an area it will keep open depends on the size of the pond and the outside temperature. It's purpose is to keep a hole in the surface, for gas exchange. I've used it in a very large pond and found it kept a sizable area open though, unless extremely cold temps last for days.

Answer:	No. I have had customers try this. It does not work. Boil some water on the stove and pour onto the ice until you melt a hole to float the heater in.

Answer:	Didnt seem to use much electric. I leave mine in a 55 gallon plastic barrel of water for rabbits all winter and I dont notice it on the bill

Answer:	It is made to NOT melt a plastic tank, but if it were to drift to the edge of a "beach" area where the water is shallow, it's hard to know if the pond liner could withstand the heat. Make an anchor (e.g. concrete block) and tie the power cord (at the point where it enters the heater body) to the anchor so it holds itself in position in the center of the pond. That will leave the power cord free to connect to your extension cord.

Question:	Would this work in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket for chicken water through the winter
Answer:	It would, but it’s a bit aggressive of a heater for that size. Mine is for a 400 gallon little duck pond (8x4x2’) and it works great! For a bucket I’d go smaller tho.

Answer:	Maybe I don’t understand, but our temps have dropped to 14 degrees and it’s still pumping. To me the only way the tubes can freeze is if water is getting inside the lines I suppose if you turn off the pump and the water went in the lines it could then freeze. Chech the check valves are working.

Answer:	Any added oxygen is beneficial to any body of water. I have customers using this in 300 plastic tub ponds as well as others in 20,000+ ponds. It comes down to what you are using it for. Aeration, winter Ice control, aesthetics, etc. If you have dead areas in your pond with no circulation, then this aeration is perfect. If you have a stagnant body of water that is 1/4 acre, and think this aerator will keep the pond alive, then you will be very upset.

Answer:	As others have suggested here, you'll need to keep it covered with anything that will protect the air pump from the elements. It's advisable keep it from direct contact with the ground as well. There are a variety of ways to do this, including decorative faux rock covers with air vents designed specifically to cover air pumps.

Answer:	According to the instruction book it comes with two 25' lengths of tubing. My husband put this in, so I have to refer to the booklet. It seems the stones are about 4" across. Mine are buried in rock now so can't see them. Maybe someone else can be more specific.

Answer:	It doesn't sound like a air stone issue, make sure that the airline filters are going in the right direction and blow on the tube to see if the stones work , also put pump setting on high and feel if the air is coming out of the pump if not it’s a faulty pump.

Answer:	I live in Georgia but I leave mine out all year long. I have a large clay pot that we layed down that we placed the motor inside to keep it from the elements. The outside seems to be waterproof but we didn't want to take any chances. I purchased it in June 2016.

Answer:	Heater has a built-in thermostat which I believe turns on at 40 deg F. Is it likely the water was colder than 40 deg, when it was working? If it was colder than 40, then, and higher, now, that would be the problem. Also, I'm sure you've already checked power at your outlet, but if you're connected through a GFI outlet, even the slightest electrical leakage to ground will trip it when the heater goes into the water. (We're connected through a GFI, and that's been a concern for us.) It's a pretty simple system, so if neither of those checks resolve the problem, I'm afraid the heater may may have just failed. Question:	Does this de-icer use a lot of electricity? It seems one review said their power bill went from $80 something to $400 or $500?! Is that possible
Answer:	Mine didn't. You will be using it in the winter, and like me, I have that going and several heat lamps in the chicken coop. Its plugged into 110 so I don't know how it would draw so much electricity without a fire. Maybe the power bill would have been that much anyway because it is winter not just the one de-icer.

I don’t see any reason why it would matter if it isn’t a flat bottom or if the heater is at an angle as long as the water space is large enough for the heater to be submerged. But I don’t actually understand your situation. Sorry I can’t be any more helpful.
Question:	Can this be used in a pond that has turtles in it
Answer:	Yes. I have used them for years in a250 gallon plastic turtle pond over the water pump bottom filter. They only last about 1-2 years though. My turtles sometimes huddle around it. Chicken wire cage is probably a good idea though. But won't burn them under that much water. Don't heat it for very long out of water. Only use with a GFI outlet.

Question:	how do i trobleshoot problem the heater isnt going passed 27c have set for 33c
Answer:	Problem could be the aquarium is in a cold and drafty area and can never reach desired temp. Could bw the unit is defective and the auto shut is keeping it at 27C and not allowing you to go higher. Or you may not actually have it set to 33C and only think you do. OR return it as defective and try another.
