3 best dog packs
Dog packs, in the context of pet supplies and accessories, are specialized backpacks designed for dogs to carry items during outdoor activities. These packs serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. Here's some information about dog packs:
Design and Purpose: Dog packs are designed to mimic traditional backpacks but are specially tailored for dogs. They are equipped with pockets or compartments where you can place items such as dog food, water bottles, toys, or other essentials. These packs are meant to distribute weight evenly on the dog's body, making it comfortable for them to carry items during hikes, walks, or camping trips.
Sizing: Dog packs come in various sizes to accommodate different breeds and sizes of dogs. It's essential to choose the right size to ensure your dog is comfortable and that the pack fits securely without causing any discomfort.
Adjustability: Most dog packs are equipped with adjustable straps to provide a secure fit. These straps can be customized to fit your dog's body shape and size correctly. It's crucial to ensure that the pack is snug but not too tight to avoid chafing or discomfort.
Materials: Dog packs are typically made from durable and lightweight materials, such as nylon or polyester. These materials are water-resistant or waterproof to protect the items inside from moisture during outdoor adventures.
Functionality: Dog packs are handy for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, camping, or long walks with their furry companions. They allow dogs to contribute by carrying some of their essentials, lightening the load for pet owners.
Training: Introducing your dog to a dog pack should be done gradually. Start with an empty pack and let your dog get used to wearing it. Gradually add weight to the pack as your dog becomes comfortable with it. Ensure that the added weight doesn't exceed a safe limit for your dog's size and breed.
Safety: While dog packs are designed for carrying items, it's essential not to overload them. The weight carried should be balanced on both sides to prevent strain or injury to your dog. It's also essential to monitor your dog for any signs of discomfort or fatigue during outdoor activities.
Cleaning and Maintenance: Dog packs should be regularly cleaned and maintained to ensure their durability. Most packs are designed for easy cleaning and are machine washable. Check for wear and tear on the pack, such as loose stitching or damaged zippers, and replace them if needed.
In summary, dog packs are a useful accessory for outdoor activities with your canine companion. They allow dogs to carry their own essentials, making it a fun and practical addition to your adventures. Proper sizing, fitting, and gradual introduction are essential to ensure your dog's comfort and safety while wearing a dog pack.

User questions & answers
Question: | My dog's girth is 32 inches...I'm not sure whether to get the medium or the large. Does anyone have experience with this |
Answer: | We had a similar experience. My dog was exactly between a small and a medium. We went with the medium and it worked out. I figured it was easer to tighten the pack rather then try and make it bigger. Also we love with pack! Best thing we got for our dog. |
Question: | Has anyone had any problems with rubbing |
Answer: | I have not had any problems with rubbing. My dog also has a long thick coat of fur that most likely helps with that. If properly adjusted and loaded correctly, I don't think it would be an issue. |
Question: | I want to get these for my goats. They are narrow chested and big bellied. Does the belly strap have ample adjustment, or is it restrictively short |
Answer: | I have a boxer who is quite deep chested but small bellied. Although this is opposite of your goats my point is that every single strap is adjustable and, depending on the size of your goat's bellies, I don't think you'll have any problems. |
Question: | How many cups of dog food do you think a medium pack would hold |
Answer: | We have packed enough food for a four to five day hike with our dog (~60lbs). I would say a good 8 cups of dog food would fit. However, I recommend buying dog food "tubes" which are dense and small packed dog food. The dog gets 1/2 a tube per day (we supplement with some dry dog food and treats). You can buy them at any dog food store. The pack will fit not just the food, but bones, snacks, and a collapsable dog food bowl. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the packs removable |
Answer: | The packs are NOT removable on the 'DayPak' version. Look for the regular Outward Hound Backpack (often referred to as 'Quick Release') - that version has removable packs. |
Question: | I see a d-ring on the front. How durable is it? I have a 66# blue heeler that pulls occasionally |
Answer: | I have a 35lb Border Collie mix - she's not a big puller but twice when she saw a rabbit she took off pretty quick and unsnapped the from clasp each time. I stopped using it after that. The D-Ring in front is fine it's the snaps that could cause an issue |
Question: | Would you be able to fit a regular sized (17 oz) water bottle in each side bag |
Answer: | I just tried and yes, a 16.9oz bottle of water fit in ok. Doesn't leave much room for anything else with the bottle in there except for perhaps some doggy waste bags. FYI, I sprayed mine with a waterproofing solution (the same that I used on my backpack) and I've seen the rain bead up & roll off while we're hiking. |
Question: | Has anyone used this for trail running? Any chafing issues if you run your dog 2-4 hours |
Answer: | I used it for hiking only, but my dog was bounding around on all day hikes and never chafed. However do not pack any kind of weight in this pack, it is NOT durable at all. I thought it would be great for my dog to carry her own water, small water bottle either side, but the pockets wore through in around 3 hikes. Personally I would NOT buy this brand again, find something more hard wearing. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What size suits a female Samoyed? Weight should reach approx. 16kg but they should be a similar size to huskies minus floof so is she small or medium |
Answer: | Measure your dog. Go for right girth size to fit properly. Also you can check their website for more charts or info. It's a very high quality product. |
Question: | Hi i have a large Alaskan malumute who wieghts 150 pounds will this pack fit him |
Answer: | Maybe, ask seller for a better accuracy. |
Question: | Is there a sizing guide |
Answer: | I had to go to the mountainsmith website and they have one. I bought a size large for my 95lb German Shepherd and it fits perfectly. |
Question: | Hi i have a Alaskan malumute he weights about 145 pounds would a large fit him? And if not is there a xlarge i could get him |
Answer: | As my boy is 87 pounds, he is also very muscular. If your malamute is more tall than wide, I believe it might work. There are lots of adjustable straps and Booker still has quite a bit of room left if he were larger. They do not have X-tra large I believe. |
