Hi Katie, It is possible, but it will be a lot of work. The paint is oil based, which is permanent, but as you know nothing is truly permanent. If you're looking for a temporary marking, try searching amazon for window, glass, or car windshield acrylic or water based paint markers. There are less pieces (which I assume means more profit) but it now takes me about 12 minutes to change the litter, whereas the old system was about 4 minutes. THIS IS TERRIBLE AND I WILL BE LEAVING THEM. The whole point of scoop free was that it was easy to swap out the trays.

Question:	The poop tray seems small. Do you have to scoop out the poop before the litter is ready to be changed
Answer:	I never have but that might be a good thing to do my cat box needs to be changed every 100 uses where because she is only 1 cat she is supposed to last 2 months but for her it just doesn’t. I am not willing to scoop it out, to make the litter last longer. I try to save up with on the litter so I have a good supply. I t is easier with the tray and cheaper.

Answer:	It is very similar to the forever tray. I have both and am happy with both designs.

Answer:	Yes. Not only is the waste receptacle smaller, but it also doesn't seal the way the disposable tray does. So it smells as it fills up with waste and requires regular scooping. Also, I'm noticing that the plastic tray has urine stains on it and I can't get the scent out. The disposable tray is *FAR* superior, but it's also far more expensive. It's not a perfect system.

Question:	What's the difference between ultra and regular
Answer:	Ultra has the lid which is why it is $169.00 without the lid it is $139.00. The base of the litter box at a step counter (how many uses) and timer intervals of 5/10/15. The 2nd generation appears to have a small front lip which my cats tender to pee towards the front so with shorter front step the pee gets on the cardboard replacements. I have both ultra and 2nd generation- with two cats I prefer the ultra. In my opinion it is made better. The 2nd generation doesn’t have the timer intervals and the front step is cheaply made.
Question:	How do you know it's time to change the tray? We have a kitten, so will it go longer at first
Answer:	I change the litter (we use the Forever Litter Tray) after about 24 uses - that's about 4-5 days in our house with 2 cats. Our cats must pee in larger amounts, because at 24 uses, I start to notice a smell from the box and the litter looks saturated. I see other owners that get 50-100 uses before they change out the litter. For a kitten, they would pee in smaller amounts, so it should last quite a bit longer.
Question:	Which self-cleaning litter box is the best? scoopfree, littermaid, litter-robot, or chillx autoegg
Answer:	I got the pet safe scoop free ultra about 6 months ago and just love it. I have 3 cats that are inside/outside and have to change it every couple months. I got the plastic litter tray that was an extra $50. I've since found crystal kitty litter at Walmart for 1/2 the price of pet safe, but haven't tried it, just saw it over the weekend.
Question:	Do you have to use crystals for this littler box to work or can you use regular clumping litter
Answer:	Do use the crystals with this machine. It's what makes this litter box the best on the market. Not only is the motor whisper quiet, those crystals really work! The key to this system is to change the crystals after so many uses, not by days. Some people say to change when the counter hits 100. I prefer 70 in my case. And when I change it everything is brand new. I don't let my littler box turn to trash before I change it. While the crystals are more expensive than clump free litter, it works several times more efficiently. I've used LitterMaid for years and the box was never clean, it was loud and would break down after a year or so. This system really works if you use it properly and change the crystals based on "uses" not "days".

Question:	Should I fill some litter when it is getting low instead of replace the whole thing? Thanks
Answer:	My family is very sensitive to smells. We can barely stand the smell of "unscented" clay litters. I was in the other room when they opened and poured the bag, so I don't know how it smelled when it was first opened. But I literally could not detect any "scent" when I came in a few minutes later and had my nose inches from the box. - The crystals had a slight smell to them. But there was nothing perfumed about it. Just the silica or whatever these are made of. ... We ordered in January 2020. I am eager to see if it can really trap the liter box odors for a full month.

Answer:	I agree with pretty much all the other answers. Sometimes it gets tracked pretty far onto our carpet and if I kneel down without seeing it it almost feels like a thorn in my kneecap, which is pretty painful. But, it is still absolutely worth it and is an amazing product! It depends on the surface (carpet or wood floor) and the part of your foot that lands on it (toe, heal, etc). I've never used PetSafe so I don't know what that one feels like. But I wouldn't compare stepping your foot on it to a lego, though I would for the knee. *Also, referring to one of the other responses, DO NOT FLUSH THE POO DOWN THE TOILET! If anybody reading this isn't aware, it's dangerous to our drinking water as well as ocean life*
