Association Feeding Conversion Method

Increase the amount of Oven Fresh Bites with each feeding until the parrot is eating 100% of its new and nutritious diet. This method may take a few days or weeks, depending on how your parrot responds.

Immediate Transition Conversion Method

Offer Oven Fresh Bites as a treat for several days and remove all parrot food from the cage at night. Feed the regular diet free choice during the day. Answer:	It is both - a food or a treat , as the label says if you zoom in on the description. I have had my Amazon for over 35 years and for at these the last 15 he has had these as a food and treat. As you parrot ages you need to keep them occupied, the berries are a great way to add to your birds diet the natural act of working for their food. If I were independently wealthy, or did not also have 4 dogs I would give him more than what I do now. A 3.25 lb. package lasts a month for my bird. I feel these are important to keep his weight up as he ages. He hates pellets, so he gets a fortified seed combo and fresh veggies and fruits. The Nurtaberries are an addition, 8 -10 a day. I am a bit on the frugal side and since there is a lot of waste if the berries are left whole when I give them to him, I take 2 and squeeze together and they break into halves or quarter pieces. He eats more this way and less on the floor of his cage. Although they are listed as only 8% fat I feel like they are an important part of his diet as he ages. Parrots need a lot of calories, especially as they age. Many a parrot has gotten ill for lack of added fat in their diet. (Even allowing them to chew the fat from a pork chop bone was advised by my avian vet.) If you notice any weight loss add more of these. I also use Avigain as an added weight supplement and Avigreen as a greens supplement. Both of these are sold here on Amazon at the same greatly reduced price compared to your local pet store or the vet. Conures can vary in size, so I don't feel comfortable answering the Conure use. I would read the label, beak size has a lot to do with the berry size. As I use these as a supplement I can say that 1 3.25 container would not be enough for feeding my Red Lore Amazon parrot, also known as a Mexican Parrot. If your Conure is a small parrot size, you would need more than 1 container a month, or use as an added supplement to other food.
