Below you can find our editor's choice of the best heat cable for pipe freeze protection on the marketProduct description
THIS CABLE WILL NOT WORK unless it is in a cold environment. We've received a couple bad reviews because people 'tested' the cable in their warm living room. Eye roll. Please don’t be that guy. The built-in thermostat will NOT TURN THE CABLE ON unless it is in a cold environment. Now for the good news, this kit includes 16 feet of high temperature glass cloth tape for installing your cable. Pipe Freeze Pro is a commercial-grade, self-regulating heat cable which provides years of reliable freeze protection for pipes of all varieties, including copper, steel, PVC, ABS, PEX and more (pipe diameters up to 2”). It may also be used in drains and culverts through the winter months to promote drainage. Don’t buy from companies without a human available by phone. Heat cable is technical stuff and it’s great to have solid advice on how to install it. We are the only heat cable seller on Amazon who is a simple phone call away. Phone: 877-387-4218. Eat that off shore competitors! Pipe Freeze Pro is jacketed with a commercial-grade fluoropolymer and comes standard with a flame-retardant thermoplastic interior jacket. Our 16 gauge heating wires are 200% thicker than the conductors found in cheap, constant wattage cables like EasyHeat and Frost King. Thicker conductors mean greater heating efficiency, more melting power and long term cable integrity. Pipe Freeze Pro is self-regulating, meaning it ‘asks’ for more energy as it gets colder outside and less energy when it’s warmer. The entire length of our cable is temperature sensitive such that colder areas demand more power than warmer areas. Smart stuff. The stated cable length DOES NOT include an additional 24” unheated cold lead. For example, a 6 foot cable is 6 feet plus 2 feet of unheated cord. Installation is simple. Run Pipe Freeze Pro along the pipe, secure with fiberglass cloth tape (included) every 12 inches and wrap with standard pipe insulation. Read the manual for full instructions, of course.
- THIS CABLE WILL NOT TURN ON UNLESS IT IS IN A COLD ENVIRONMENT. We’ve received a couple bad reviews from people testing the cables in their living rooms. Please don’t be that guy.
- TAPE INCLUDED: 16 feet of high-temperature glass cloth tape is included with this cable.
- HEAVY DUTY: Integrated thermostat turns cable on at 37 degrees, off at 50 degrees, greatly reducing energy waste. Cable is 8mm wide and includes a 24” unheated cord (add to stated cable length). Cable has commercial-grade outer jacket for long life and carries a FIVE YEAR WARRANTY, which is double the warranty of similar cables on Amazon. Will not short or burn out if cable is overlapped.
- USES: Use on the inside or outside of all types of water carrying pipe including copper, steel, PVC, ABS, PEX, concrete and more; can be exposed directly to water and is rated for soil contact.
User questions & answers
Question: | can you use with an extension cord? The 5 foot will not reach my outlet |
Answer: | Yes. It will do postage |
Question: | I ordered this to run up the the hot water pipe and then down the cold water pipe. How do I treat the area where it doesn't touch any pipe |
Answer: | No pan, just the scale. Also, if you need to weigh to the tenth of a grain, this scale will not work for you. |
Question: | How many watts is this |
Answer: | If you buy the 100gx0.0005 it will read down to tenths of a grain .So far it has been accurate and updates very quickly (verified by RCBS 505 beam and second digital) |
Question: | On the 80', what kind of amp draw does it have and what breaker amp should it be on? Or should it have a dedicated breaker line |
Answer: | Yes, this scale can be used with a powder trickler, but be aware that it reads in hundrenths of grains as opposed to tenths of grains. With a slow trickle, you can weigh each powder charge much more precisely. It does have an auto-off function, but stays on for 5 minutes before turning off. I don't know if that feature can be disabled. I do know that it doesn't drift, and am very pleased with its performance. |

- Testing the cable before the installation. Uncoil the cable, plug in the heating cable. Normally you can feel the slight warm on the heating cable in few minutes.
User questions & answers
Question: | Can the plug be inside(where it is warm) and the tape go through the wall outside to a cold pipe? Will it still turn on |
Answer: | Call better basic |
Question: | Can i use this on a buried 2" pvc line that's used for sumppump discharge? also, i have a flex hose connected to the end of pvc can it work on that |
Answer: | When it flashes 20.000 put up a 20g weight and it will then flash 40.000 you'll then put up the second 20g weight, it will then show PASS |
Question: | Would this melt snow off a driveway |
Answer: | Keep in mind that in all digital systems the last digit is + or - 0.5. This is because you can't see the following digit and know what it is. The same is true for any last digit say "6" is the last number then that means that the measurement (x.xx6) is between x.xx55 and x.xx65 because use can't see the next digit. So trying to read 0.001 means you have a very large error the value could be 0.0015 or as low as 0.0055. That error is something between 0 and + or - 50% . Hope this helps. |
Question: | What is the lowest temperature that this will operate? Below zero |
Answer: | It does have auto off BUT you can disable it by holding the MODE button for a couple of seconds. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used outside |
Answer: | It comes with a 2 prong 220 v adapter. |
Question: | Does this product have a light that stays lit when the cable is functioning |
Answer: | There is fast, and slow, and then a trickle speed. Fast and slow are settings you can choose, the trickle function is based on how close the powder is to the set amount of grains configured. Example: You set a charge of 20 grains, and you set the dispense speed to fast. There is an additional setting that tells the unit to slow to a trickle at say 19.2 grains so as to avoid overshooting the 20 desired grains. It can take a bit of tweaking, and every powder flows differently. I love my auto charge, it does what it should and hasn't let me down. |
Question: | I need 24' how long is this product? Also is thermostat on plug end or tail end |
Answer: | I usually do 2-300 round batches of .308, using IMR 4064 powder and that will take about an hour to charge 200 cases. Some powders trickle easier than others, but this unit is twice as fast as an old lyman powder dispenser. |
Question: | Can you use his for a cast iron drain pipe? I have a U shaped drain pipe in my unheated laundry room which freezes often. Thank you |
Answer: | No AC power port. Requires 4 AAA batteries, they are located on the underside. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a garage floor drain with PVC pipe running under the concrete floor and venting outside. Can this be run thru the pipe to prevent from freezing |
Answer: | Whoever wrote the description was obviously on crack! Water doesn't feeze at 40° and no place on earth gets down to -380°. There's no way it works to anywhere close to that low of a temperature. |
Question: | does a plug and terminator come with it |
Answer: | I put your question into google and got this response: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070330043350AA4oR2lThey say yes, but you should cover it with insulation because the pvc is a poor conductor of heat and could still freeze if you don't insulate it. |
Question: | What is the rating (W/ft length |
Answer: | Temperature Control Range: -40~120℃, -40~248℉. I included the temperature range for this product. Two questions. How hot does your smoker get and are you sure the element is good. Most of the smokers I have looked at here go up to at least 275 F. Just as a reminder the temperature can be set to turn on and off in a specific range but it looks like your max temperature is going to be somewhere around 248 degrees F. |
Question: | Can cable be looped (without contacting a pipe) to install it on adjacent pipe runs & (doubled) up & back down short "T" pipes as a continuous cable |
Answer: | You could use it to boil water. You will need to position the temp probe so it is touching the water. I use mine to warm honey. It holds a range of 2 degrees f well. |
