12 best hydraulic pool covers
Hydraulic pool covers, also known as hydraulic pool cover systems or hydraulic pool cover lifts, are specialized mechanisms designed to cover and uncover swimming pools automatically or with minimal manual effort. These systems offer various benefits, including energy savings, pool maintenance, and enhanced safety. Here's what you need to know about hydraulic pool covers:
Basic Functionality: Hydraulic pool covers utilize hydraulic power to extend or retract a pool cover that typically consists of durable fabric or vinyl. They are engineered to fit the dimensions of the pool and can be operated with ease.
Energy Efficiency: One of the primary advantages of hydraulic pool covers is their ability to help conserve energy. By covering the pool when not in use, they minimize heat loss and reduce water evaporation. This, in turn, helps maintain the water temperature, reducing the need for heating and chemical treatments.
Safety: Hydraulic pool covers provide an added layer of safety for swimming pools. When the cover is in place, it creates a barrier that can prevent accidents, especially involving small children or pets. Some covers are designed to support the weight of a person, adding an additional safety feature.
Ease of Use: These systems are designed for user convenience. They often come with user-friendly controls, such as remote controls or wall-mounted switches, allowing pool owners to open or close the cover with minimal effort.
Pool Cleanliness: Hydraulic pool covers also help keep the pool clean by preventing debris like leaves, dirt, and insects from entering the water. This reduces the need for frequent pool cleaning and maintenance.
Types: There are different types of hydraulic pool covers available, including automatic and semi-automatic systems. Automatic systems are fully motorized and can be operated with the push of a button. Semi-automatic systems require some manual effort to initiate the cover's movement.
Installation: Installing a hydraulic pool cover typically involves customizing the cover to fit the pool's shape and size.It also requires the installation of hydraulic mechanisms and control systems, which may involve professional assistance.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure the proper functioning of hydraulic pool cover systems. This may involve inspecting hydraulic components, checking for leaks, and keeping the cover fabric clean and in good condition.
Cost: The cost of hydraulic pool covers can vary widely depending on factors like the size of the pool, the type of cover, and additional features. While they can be a significant investment, the long-term energy savings and convenience they offer are often considered worthwhile.
In summary, hydraulic pool covers are innovative systems designed to cover and uncover swimming pools effortlessly. They provide benefits such as energy efficiency, safety, and reduced maintenance while helping to keep the pool clean and enjoyable for swimmers. Proper installation and maintenance are essential to ensure the effectiveness and longevity of these systems.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this suotable for an inflatable spa |
Answer: | Robin, I have had four different cover caddies, lifts, etc. This one has been the best ever!! I strongly suggest it be secured to the upper area of the spa frame if the spa cover is Big and heavy like mine (7 seat tub). You may have a problem being that your tub is inflatable. But, the weight of the filled tub holds the rack in place, so the “FOOT” has to have a suitable ‘wedge effect’ where you slide it under the bottom of your tub. Good luck. Larry Ward (will re-order!!!) |
Question: | Does the spa have to be lifted for the lifter to slide under |
Answer: | Yes to get it under far enough. Two men can lift and then set the lifter in the middle area and your good to go. |
Question: | Does this product normally come with a full set of instructions? I received my order and all the parts were there, but no instructions |
Answer: | yes. The instructions were 4 pages. Page 1 was the parts list. |

Question: | will this cover fit THE spring dance envoy hot tub |
Answer: | This would be a great lifter for spa as your model shows as being square however it also works for round spas. Do not forget it is best to put this lifter on when the spa is empty to get the under bracket under the spa. Patio Splash |
Question: | What is the maximum height that this will work with? My Spa is 46" tall |
Answer: | Works on spas 30" to 40" there is a conversion kit for spas 41" to 55" tall and Swim Spas. Patio Splash |
Question: | What is the size on the cover |
Answer: | Hi, this will fit a cover that is 5" thick and up to 100" in length. If you have a 6" thick cover you would need to get a extended bar to accomidate the extra thickness. Thanks |
Question: | This undermount-cabinet design has me intrigued. Does it just slip underneath a filled, functioning hot tub |
Answer: | I was able to slip it under our full spa without draining. Maybe because the concrete surface wasn't completely flat underneath. I would definitely try to slide under before draining. Draining is not a big deal though with the use of a sump pump. Should be drained once or twice a year anyway. |
Question: | how does it connect to spa, with the lack of support behind the panels |
Answer: | You have to screw them in to the side of the spa. |
Question: | What material are these lifters made of? Plastic? Metal? I don't see this important information in the details |
Answer: | Heavy thick plastic. I love mine it works great and you dont have to lift it all the way up like others. This is my second one my old house had one also with that hot tub. I tried the easy lift and it ended up bending over Tim plus I have a bad shoulder so lifting it up was difficult |
Question: | what is the length of the bars |
Answer: | from the mounting surface, to the end of bars is 32 1/2"s , there is a 1 3/4" offset that is 6 inches deep from the top of the bars at the mounting surface that allows for any protrusions around the upper edge, of the tub. hope this helps. Bill |
Question: | Is there a special way to install on a round hot tub |
Answer: | Its simple, just set the brackets as shown in the instructions and drive in the screws they send with the brackets. Took about 10 minutes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the difference between the CV 250 and CV |
Answer: | I called the company and they recommended this model as I have an 8' by 8' cover which is heavier than the CV 250 is built to handle. The tubes that assist the closing and opening are heavier duty on the CV400. Installation is easy enough by following instructions and reading ahead a bit to know expectations. |
Question: | I tried to purchase and you wont ship to Sydney Australia. Can you please advise the dimensions of the box and weight I may organise freight myself |
Answer: | I would agree with Billdatum. those dimensions are very close to what I have. It was easy to install. took me about 1 hour. I did purchase larger screws to mount the bracket to my spa, and to utilize more holes as my brackets hung over the edge of my spa, and I was unable to use the last 2 holes on the bracket. There are 2 rows of holes offset, and pre drilled on each side of the bracket ( just a piece of angle iron ). I believe the kit comes with 5 screws to use on each bracket. As I mentioned I bought some about 1/2" longer and 1 size larger and enough to use 7 screws on each side. Worked great. I could fillthe spa with water, and use the brackets I mounted to use as lift points for a crane.. |
Question: | will this work on a 78" round spa |
Answer: | yes, Cover Valet is the company name. Not sure if they make a lifter for a round spa, The contact info is 1 (800) 730-7727 |
Question: | Does the support bar go all the way across the cover at the seam when it's lifted? My spa is 8' wide |
Answer: | No. There are 2 "fingers" on each side that allow the cover to be lifted without damaging the seam all the way across the hot tub cover. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this fit a 5' (60") x 5' square hot tub |
Answer: | Hi Brandy, the Rock-it fits most spas up to 96â³ & will not work on round, hexagon or octagon spa cabinets or on hot tubs with a corner radius of more than 10" |
Question: | I have about a 2" lip, including the shell under my full tub. Dont really want to drain it this time of year Will I be able to install this by myself |
Answer: | The spa will need to be drained but besides that yes you can install the cover rock it. “Hot Tub Charlie” |
Question: | How much of the cover sticks up above the top of the spa |
Answer: | When the cover is in the open position, it sticks up about a foot - foot and a half above the spa. When I am in the water, I can't see anything on that side of the tub. |
Question: | How to intallation rock it under spa cover lift on a full tub |
Answer: | The plate that goes underneath is really thin and only about 3"long, so you just have to get something under a little. I got a little screwdriver under mine, then a bigger screwdriver, and finally a little pry bar, which was enough to squeeze it in there. This was on an 8' tub with 600 gallons in it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What’s the weight of this pump |
Answer: | Very light weight |
Question: | Will the pump start automatically when fluid level reaches 1-1/2 inches deep? If not at what depht does it start automatically |
Answer: | I would not recommend this pump. It worked for 1 day. The bottom fell off immediately and it was a pain in the ass to get started submerged in 1ft of water. I kept having to jar the hose and it would turn on then back off. I just dont feel like its worth it. I ended up getting a pump that I could control when it turned on or off. |
Question: | At what depth does the pump start |
Answer: | The pump starts pumping as soon as you plug it in. You have to make sure that at least the bottom of the pump is underwater so you don't burn out the motor. We used it this spring to get all the icky water off of the pool cover; the pump worked great. Made opening the pool much easier. |
Question: | Standard plug outlet |
Answer: | Yes. Standard 110v |
