IOW, he's fairly certain the backpack on its own as a carry-on to totally legit. YMMV if it's completely stuffed however, as it becomes rather thick. US carry-on size policy is 22" x 14" x 9" or 56" x 36" x 23" cm while this backpack's dimensions are: 21" x 14" x 10" or 53 x 35 x 25 cm. |

| Answer: | Yes, you need it. Otherwise, ice has nowhere to expand but against your liner 😱. Anyone who complaints that the expansion pillow broke is filling it up waaaaaaay too much. It only needs to be filled about 3/4. I've had them same pillow since 2007-2008 winters season. I do but a piece of duct tape over the inflation valve so it doesn't expand out from ice pressure. Not sure if it helps as I have done it all along and haven't leaked air from the valve yet. |
