Answer:	it might need to be trimmed. pins which hold it in place are spring loaded. i believe one is made to fit 8 1/4".

Answer:	As far as I know all pool skimmers come with a weir, but the weirs do wear out and break with age as did mine so if you took over someones pool its very possible the weir has gone missing, and its much easier to keep the pool surface clean with a weir so only the surface water is being taken in by the skimmer. They do in fact pivot from the bottom where there should be a couple recesses for the spring loaded pivots on the Weir to reside in. My Weir did have an issue though, it was slightly narrow so the top wanted to push out into the pool when adding water via the skimmer & due to heavy pool activity / wave action. I resolved that by mixing up a couple dollars of epoxy putty and applying it as a weir stop to each side of the skimmer near the top of the weir opening, just make sure the epoxy dries without the weir stuck upright to the stop. If you are worried of that apply a bit of tape to the weir and push into the soft epoxy putty so you have a nice flat surface on each side for it to strike against, then separate and let the epoxy dry.

Answer:	Ya.. they kinda just left it up to you to figure out. So, what i did was first make sure that it fit in the intended spot as well or better than the Hayward or whatever brand you are replacing. I notice it is a little shorter than the original. But that seems to be OK. From what i remember it has a couple of pins in it that once you release them, the rods spring out of each side. So basically, remove any part of the old flap that is going to be in the way. I had to remove the mounting bracket that the old one came with. Then position the new flap in the place that you want it and remove the pins. The rods pop out and your gate should be in place. I think you can still move it around a bit if you need to. Anyway.. that's how i did it. Hope it works out. Mine has been in place for quite a while and works fine.

Answer:	It does not come with screws. I used the screws from the broken one. you need to buy stainless steel screws approx.. 1/2" long from the home store. I am sure you can also go to a pool store if you are not sure what to buy.

Answer:	The spring's compression is very strong, and intended to apply sufficient pressure on the rubber tips against the sides of the skimmer to keep the weir in place. Be very careful to position the weir where you want it inside of the skimmer before removing the pins that hod the spring in place. You don't want to be messing around with it after the spring is engaged. I have had two such devices. One worked has worked just fine for the past few years. Before that I had another that slipped out of place after a few months.

The size was close enough that it left adequate room for the gate to move freely. This is a hard question to answer since all skimmer openings are not exactly the same size. We watched a video online about replacing the Weir gate and it was very helpful.
