Boost Chlorine
Chlorine sanitizes your pool to remove bacteria and other hazardous contaminants to keep water clean. Use HTH Super Shock! Treatment to restore chlorine levels that have been depleted by the sun, rain and heavy use.
Kill Bacteria & Algae
Low chlorine levels, poor water circulation and warm weather can encourage bacteria and algae growth. Rid your pool of black algae, mustard algae and green algae and prevent regrowth by shocking your pool once a week. Don’t forget to brush the floor and walls of the pool.
Keep Water Clear
The fast-dissolving formula found in HTH shock treatments acts quickly to restore clarity to your water so you can be back in the swimming pool within 24 hours. Plus, the treatment won’t overstabilize your pool or fade your liners.
Test pH Levels
Dip an HTH Multi-purpose 6-Way Test Strip (sold separately) into the water to measure total alkalinity, pH, free available chlorine (FAC), calcium hardness, and cyanuric acid (CYA) or stabilizer. Balance water, and adjust alkalinity and pH levels, where applicable.
2. Apply Directly to Water
Before handling any chemicals, put on protective gloves and goggles. During evening hours and with the pump running, broadcast the HTH Super Shock! Treatment evenly over a wide area in the deepest part of your pool.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used to detect chloride or salt content in a salt water pool |
Answer: | No this will only detect the levels for a chlorine/ bromine pool water pool. |
Question: | I have two bottles of your tests strips. One bottle is pool and spa and the other one is spa and hot tub. I’m getting two different readings |
Answer: | Hi there, the spa and hot tub are calibrated a little differently to work better in warmer water. If you would like to send me a picture of your tested strip I would be happy to see if maybe one of the sets were defective? Looking forward to hearing back from you. Best, Nathan, JNW Support. |
Question: | Can I use these to test the chlorine in my house water |
Answer: | I don’t think these test strips are sensitive enough to detect the amount of chlorine typically in tap water. Unless your tap water has really high chlorine content. These strips won’t detect anything under 1ppm. |
Question: | Alkanity range is incorrect. Should be 80-120 no |
Answer: | 80-120 is the best range and yes the range shown on the product label is wrong. Most people use these for hot tubs, if you use bromine than even 80 is too low bromine spas should be in the 100-120 range |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why not just buy stablilized chlorine tablets instead |
Answer: | Thats right, if you buy chlorine tabs and most people do. No need to buy more stabilizer 50% of chlorine tab is Cyanuric Acid or stabilizer. I add sodium hypochlorite to the pool which is Bleach. but 12.5%. No stabilizer added. So I add it at the being of the season and thats all I need to do for that. Now, you have be very careful about tabs with stablilizer, The chlorine gets dal;eated the CYA never gets dpleated . It keeps building up and up in your pool. Anything reading of 50 ppm CYA is not good for pool sanitazing. You have to add more and more tabs which of course adds more of the problem Cyanuic Acid. Very bad cycle. Check CYA if more then 50ppm go the sodium hypochlorite. |
Question: | How much Pool Mate 1-2607B Stabilizer should be added per 1,000 gallons |
Answer: | Generally, CYA is added at 4lbs per 10k gallons to get you to 30ppm. |
Question: | Why do would anyone need 100pp cya |
Answer: | No pool needs that crazy high amount! CYA is an item where less is best. 10-25 PPM is ideal. There is no benefit in 50PPM or higher. Higher the PPM , more sanitizer is needed to be affective. |
Question: | I'm a first time pool owner. What are the "levels" you all keep referring to |
Answer: | If you put chlorine into a pool that has been freshly filled, the sun and air will cause the chlorine to quickly evaporate. Cyanuric Acid (CyA) forms a weak bond (stabilizes) with the chlorine that you put in and then releases the chlorine slowly, kind of like the effects of time-released medication. Too little Cyanuric Acid (less than about 30 parts per million - ppm) and your chlorine evaporates too fast. More than about 100 ppm and the Cyanuric Acid never lets go of the chlorine, thus leaving you with little or no "free chlorine." Free chlorine is what keeps things from growing in your pool. You want to keep the CyA level between 30 ppm and 100 ppm. Chlorine evaporates but Cyanuric Acid stays in you pool until you dump some of the water. Regular backwashing should help keep the CyA level down but if it gets to 100 ppm your chlorine will stop working well. At that point, drain and replace 1/2 of the pool water and that should drop the CyA-level back to about the 50 ppm level. Pool tablets contain CyA and using them will increase the CyA level of your water but, when you first fill the pool, adding tablets alone will not get the CyA level up fast enough to keep all the chlorine in your tablets from evaporating. This product allows you to get that new water up to the 30 ppm level needed to hold the chlorine. |

Why you need a Water Quality Tester?
A good chlorine and pH level keeps bad bacteria at bay. If pH goes up too high, chlorine's germ-killing power drains. Chlorine can also get eaten up if a lot of nitrogen (from debris, puddles, sunscreen, or sweat) or other organic gets into the pool. When chlorine and pH levels go out of whack, it can lead to diarrhea and ear and skin infections. That's why it's best to test chlorine and pH levels regularly - They can change day to day based on pool usage. Question: | Can this be used in salt water pools |
Answer: | buy a floating dispensor for 3 inch tabs, buysome tabs. next the important thing,a test kit,a simple 2 test kit will do for what you have.just test chlorine and ph, ph takes a week or so to settle down to a good reading.don't even need to test for first week. after you get some good reading then tell me what they are and I will help you to adjust it. its simple with a pool your size. run filter 6-8 hours a day.most important and don't forget this!!! have fun!!!!! depending on how your ph goes will determind what chlorine to use, there is no straight chlorine,it is all bonded to another element ,which element you want depends on your ph reading. |

In The Swim Pool Shock Treatment
Swimming pool shock treatments are an essential aspect of spring pool opening but can also be used to give your pool a quick chlorine boost. Pool Shock is our most popular and versatile pool shock treatment, used to kill algae and bacteria and remove micro-contaminants that make pool water cloudy.
Use our Pool Shock to kill visible algae blooms and invisible bacteria, which could cause illness to swimmers. Your daily chlorination of the pool will kill most pathogenic bacteria, viruses and microbes, however to be sure that the water is sanitary, it is good practice to 'shock the pool', or super-chlorinate the pool every few weeks, to oxidize everything in the water, especially the invisible germs that may be harboring in the water.
Reliable & Easy to Use
In The Swim Pool Shock is our most economical chlorine shock treatment for pools, sold in convenient 1 lb. bags. Powerful formula contains 99% calcium hypochlorite in a powerful 68% available chlorine formula. Granular chlorine Pool Shock is used for a variety of purposes to sanitize and disinfect pools, spas and fountains. Easy to use Pool Shock effectively treats 10,000 gallons of pool water per bag.
Kills Algae & Bacteria
Use our Pool Shock to kill visible algae blooms and invisible bacteria, which could cause illness to swimmers. Your daily chlorination of the pool will kill most pathogenic bacteria, viruses and microbes, however to be sure that the water is sanitary, it is good practice to 'shock the pool', or super-chlorinate the pool every few weeks, to oxidize everything in the water, especially the invisible germs that may be harboring in the water.
Super Chlorinate
One pound of In The Swim Pool Shock will raise free chlorine levels in a clean and balanced pool to 9 ppm, per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Pools with excessive debris, algae, suspended particles or heavy sunlight will need a proportionally higher dose of pool shock, to compensate for such factors. A double or triple dose is often required for poor water conditions such as spring openings, bacteria contamination, or severe algae blooms.

User questions & answers
Question: | how many uses does it last when using 5 drops each time |
Answer: | Hello MG120, Thank you for inquiring about our Safe Home ULTIMATE Drinking Water Kit, with testing for 200 different contaminants at our EPA-certified lab. In this kit, we do not test for S-(elemental sulfur) nor do we test for H2S-(hydrogen sulfide gas). We do test for Sulfate-(SO4) as one of the 200 different contaminants, in this kit. Thank you for considering Safe Home, for your water testing needs. |
Question: | How can tests can be ran with this kit |
Answer: | Hello Doug, Thank you for your interest in our Safe Home ULTIMATE Drinking Water Test Kit, which provides testing for 200 different contaminants at our EPA Certified Laboratory. I am happy to share my 42 years of experience with testing drinking water, with some input. If you want to know what's coming into your home and being treated by your filtering system, test the water before the system. If you want to know what you are drinking, test the water after your filtering system. If you want to know how efficient your water filtering system is, you should purchase two kits: Use one kit to test the water before the filtration system and use the second kit to test the water after the filtration system. Note: this can be pricey...so evaluate accordingly. The math to calculate the percent removal of each contaminant is very simple. I only recommend the third option, because we receive countless emails asking us "how" to check the efficiency of a water treatment (filtering) system. The final decision is ultimately, yours. Thank you again for your interest in our Safe Home ULTIMATE Test Kit. |
Question: | Does it test Cya levels in the pool |
Answer: | Hello BG, thank you for your interest in our UKTIMATE drinking water kit with testing for 200 Parameters at our EPA certified laboratory. Unfortunately PFOA and PFOS are not included in this kit. We do have a kit that tests for a dozen perfluoro alkyl substances including PFOA and PFOS. Please feel free to contact us at our toll-free number 888–932–6699 and ask for safe home customer services. Thank you again for your interest in safe home drinking water test kits. |
Question: | Does it test for cya |
Answer: | The test is carried out by the lab, where you need to send samples of water by mail. In the box there are only vessels for filling with water, but there are no chemicals for conducting tests at home. There is only one test tube for testing water at home for bacterial contamination. Therefore, the cost of $300 is only for testing one source of water, but for 200 possible polluters. |

The Taylor K-1515-A Titration Test Kit will help you determine the quantity of chlorine in pool water. In this Taylor FAS-DPD test, you will add an amount of buffered DPD powder to pool water to turn it pink. Then, you add Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate (FAS) one drop at a time until the sample turns clear. The FAS-DPD titration method allows users to measure both free and combined chlorine at increments as low as 0.2 ppm - the maximum allowable level for combined chlorine according to most technical standards - and as high as 20 ppm. Titrations tests improve accuracy and eliminate color-matching problems. Tests for free & combined chlorine are 1 drop = 0.2 or 0.5 PPM.
- Keep your swimming pool, hot tub, or spa safe with this convenient testing kit
- Find out the chlorine level of your pool easily and safely
- Includes tests for available chlorine, free chlorine, total chlorine
- Easy-to-read instructions are provided to ensure correct results
- Includes .75-ounce reagents and a heavy duty carrying case
User questions & answers
Question: | I am looking for a test that would help me find out the levels of Trihalomethane in my drinking water. Would this work |
Answer: | No, this tests pool chemical only |
Question: | Can you test for Bromine using this kit |
Answer: | No, the K-1515-A and C kits are for chlorine. The K-1517-A and C kits are the comparable ones for bromine. |
Question: | Can you test for Bromine using this kit |
Answer: | Simple google search yielded this, so I'd say yes: http://taylortechnologies.com/product_fliers/Taylor-FAS-DPD-Drop-Tests-Industrial.pdf |
Question: | Is this test for available chlorine AND combined chlorine? i cant find a straightforward description. Ty |
Answer: | This test is for total chlorine and combined chlorine. The formula would be TC-CC=FC which means that if from your first reading you subtract the combined chlorine reading, you will get the amount of free chlorine in your pool. CC should not be more than 0.2 ppm. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this product if you use baquacil or do you have to use chlorine |
Answer: | Sorry, I cant help you on this. I have never used baquacil, I always use chlorine. |
Question: | what are the ingredients |
Answer: | Not sure, but it does work well. |
Question: | what type of yellow out do you use for a salt water pool |
Answer: | While there are 2 different products, the one pictured is NOT the one I use in my salt pool but instead use the other one (2 pounds for more money!) - they may be the same, maybe not, I should look into that. In my case, the chlorine generator does a good job and this product isn't used during the year as shock but instead when opening the pool in the spring. With the water being too cold for the generator to work, algae gets a hold and Yellow out followed by Clorox Pool&Spa XtraBlue Chlorinating Granules turns my dark green pool that you can't see down 6 inches sparkling clear. CLEAN THE FILTERS OFTEN. |
Question: | My cyanuric acid (cyu) is at 95 which is too high. i supposedly have chlorine "lock". will yellow out clear small amount of yellow algae on pool wall |
Answer: | We are not pool professionals, and are not familiar with the term chlorine "lock". Do know it knocked out our yellow algae - and it does deplete the chlorine while it's being used. The instructions tell you that and also how much to add of chlorine or shock according to amount of the yellow out you use. |
