  1. Prevention and Control: Algaecides are primarily used as a preventive measure to stop algae from forming in pool water. However, they can also be used to treat existing algae problems.

  2. Types of Algaecides: There are different types of algaecides available, including copper-based and non-copper-based options.Copper-based algaecides are effective against a wide range of algae types, while non-copper-based algaecides are often used for maintenance and prevention.

  3. Usage Guidelines: Algaecides should be added to the pool according to the manufacturer's instructions. Typically, they are poured directly into the pool water, and the pool pump should be run for a few hours to ensure even distribution.

  4. Compatibility: It's important to ensure that the algaecide you choose is compatible with your pool's filtration system and other chemicals you may be using, such as chlorine or shock treatments.

User questions & answers

Question: This is a rip off walmart sells for $7.00. Same stuff. What does amazon cjarge so mich for the same product
Answer: Buy it ther like I do
Question: How long do You wait before getting in pool after you use it
Answer: Hi Josie, We are the manufacturer of Clorox Pool and Spa products. You can wait 15 minutes before swimming. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-SOS-POOL.
Question: Does this kill all types of algae
Answer: Hi, We are the manufacturer of Clorox Pool&Spa products. The formulation in the Algaecide + Clarifier can kill green and mustard algae and prevent black algae. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-SOS-POOL.
Question: Is this for more than 1? If so why does Walmart sell it for
Answer: This is a more dilute / lower concentration of an algecide more often sold for home delivery at 60% concentration. The lower concentration makes it easier to measure a preventive or maintainance dose for an above ground backyard pool that might need 1 1/4 oz of a 60% poly-sim algecide. Difficulty measuring the higher concentration chemicals can result in over-dosed pools and adverse reactions in swimmers. Mass market retailers have been selling lower concentration chemicals for small pools and spas since the late 1960’s. The extra gallon of water is bulky and heavy to warehouse and ship and isn’t an ideal product for a home delivery marketing channel. As of late March 2018 the WalMart price happens to be $10, but it isn’t “pool season” in most places so that may be more of a placeholder than a 2018 price.
Question: How tall is the bucket
Answer: Your question seemed odd but did get me to measure the bucket! Exactly 18 3/8". Hope that helps. BTW, it is a fine product.
Question: were do you put the tablets
Answer: Just a comment, I'm no expert, but I have had my 39x22 foot in ground pool for 25 years this year. My skimmer became brittle after about 20 years of use putting 3-4, 3 inch tablets in the skimmer, hardly anything to worry about after 20 years. Also, I get that the chlorine sitting there when the pump is not running can concentrate the chlorine and yes the water does go into your pool filter but the initial corrosive water is not sitting in the filter it gets pumped right back out into the pool and less chlorinated water is coming in behind it. I have had the same pool filter and pumps since my pool was built 25 years ago and have no problems putting 3 inch chlorine tabs in the skimmer basket. I have only replaced the inside of the filter once because some of the sections were ripped, replaced the skimmer basket once after 20 years, and I just had it re-plastered 3 years ago. Like I said before, I'm no expert this is just my experience. Now if someone can tell me how to get rid of the pool.....
Question: is there an expiration date for these tablets
Answer: no expiration ,just keep closed tight and dry. work better than other brands i have used .
Question: How many tablets are in this bucket
Answer: The description says that there are approximately 114 tablets per bucket.

Pool Care and Maintenance

It is important to maintain your pool/spa to keep it clean and healthy all year round. Good habits, such as cleaning your filter or emptying your skimmer basket, will ensure that your investment is protected for years to come. But most importantly, you and your family will be able to enjoy the swimming pool or spa each season.

Water Testing

Testing the water weekly or bi-weekly, depending on use and outside variables, helps keep your pool/spa water healthy. Utilizing a DPD or OTO reagent-based water test kit, test strips, or digital testing will help you monitor the pool or spa water chemistry.

Adjusting and Balancing

Adjusting and balancing your pool or spa water chemistry ensures that you will get the most out of the swimming season. The benefit of having good pH and Alkalinity levels is that it will increase the ability of your main sanitizer to kill bacteria. Balanced pool water chemistry will also reduce chemical and maintenance costs. Balanced pH and alkalinity help prevent corrosion and scale formation on the interior pool surface and surrounding equipment.

Sanitizing

There are many different types of sanitizers used in various pool and spa environments. Clean and healthy water starts by establishing a proper residual chlorine level with shock or concentrated granular chlorine. The most common way to maintain a proper chlorine level is by using trichlor chlorine tablets in either a floater or chemical feeder. Applying these steps to your normal maintenance plan will ensure the elimination of non-living organic contaminants, bacteria, micro organisms, and algae making your water safe to enjoy.

Pool Fun and Safety

Now that the water is properly balanced and sanitized, it’s time to get in there and have some fun! We recommend enhancing your outdoor living environment with games, floats or loungers, toys, and accessories. Get creative!

Safety is of the utmost importance, and there are many ways to help make your pool/spa safer. Having a life ring buoy, a shepherd's hook, depth markers, coast guard-approved life preservers, door and water alarms and having your local aquatic environment safety regulations on-hand will ensure a fun and safe environment for your family.

Treatment

Even after all your preparation, sometimes life happens and your pool or spa can get away from you. In those moments, we need to start back from the beginning with testing of the water. Now that you have a clear idea of the current readings, your next steps will depend on the type of symptoms your water is presenting. This may include an issue such as algae (green, yellow, black, etc.), cloudiness, living organics, debris, and other water conditions.

User questions & answers

Question: does it turn the water BLUE,,, that is what I wont in my pool,,,Blue water
Answer: it clears the water of any cloudiness. it does not turn the water blue. pool water will always reflect the color of your liner.
Question: Will this work without shocking first
Answer: Yes
Question: Exactly what chemicals are in this product? Do I use it in addition to shock, muriatic acid, algecide.... or instead of
Answer: This is not a product that replaces ANY pool chemical treatment. You still need your chlorine or other sanitizer, muriatic acid, CYA, Borax, algaecide, shock, etc. as usual. This enhances your usual maintenance chemicals. It does a great job of what I call clumping up small dust/dirt particles making it easier for the filter to remove them. It will not “turn you water blue,” but it does make the water crystal clear, and makes it sparkle. If you happen to have a liner with lots of blue in the pattern, it will make the water “appear” to be bluer, but all it does is remove fine particles, & makes the water crystal clear. I use it once a week, and dose after heavy rains. I’ve used it for 20 years, have tried others, but always come back to this.
Question: I have an Intex Metal Frame Pool with a Saltwater Pump and Filter System. Will this product work with that type of set up
Answer: Yes it stated on the bottle that it will work salt, and all types of filters/pumps.

Question: after I use this i would like to drain the pool halfway but the drainage goes into the grass, will it kill my grass
Answer: No, it will not kill your grass. However, why are you draining your pool? Once you use this, make sure your chemicals are still balanced and then get some FLOC. Add as directed and after it has run in your pool for a while, turn your pump off for 24-48 hours. Everything should drop to the bottom of the pool where you can vacuum it out; make sure you put your filter to waste. That's what we have done with a great deal of success. Good luck!

User questions & answers

Question: Is this product considered "polyquat 60" algecide used for winter closing of an inground pool
Answer: Yes, it's the same product.
Question: Does it contain copper
Answer: It's Polyquat 60, cheaper than anywhere local, with free shipping it's a bargain. No Copper.Look up Polyquat 60 on the internet, it's the only algaecide to use.
Question: Does this eliminate calcium scale
Answer: No, this doesn't work for calcium scale. FamilyPoolFun
Question: can I use this to close my pool for winter? How much to use & how long before
Answer: I did not receive the entire question from Amazon. The end reads & how long before! I have used it for several years to close my 18000 gal pool. They suggest 16oz per 10000 gals. I use 32ozs added at time of closing. In the past I have had continuing problems with algea in late summer. Since the regular use of PHOSfree, I haven't had any algea at all, even upon opening. This seems to have solved my problems more than algeacides, but I still use them to be on the safe side.

PoolRx Pool Unit #101066 6 Month Algaecide Treats 20k-30k gallons, Black

  • Simply place in pump basket or skimmer basket
  • Eliminates all types of Algae
  • Reduces Chemicals
  • Effective for up to 6 months
  • Simplifies Pool and Spa Care

User questions & answers

Question: is the poolrx unit refillable each year
Answer: No... You replace it each year. They have a booster that you add after 6 months, but then each year you replace it.
Question: I placed a pool rx mineral unit in my pool two weeks ago. prior to adding it i had 0 copper now my reading shows .4. any one else have this issue
Answer: I really don't think you should worry about that reading. It has minerals in it so it is bound to show something. I put this in on June 17th in my 27,000 gallon pool and have not added one bag of shock or any algeacides even one time this entire Summer. It has been a miracle. It is so hot here in Texas and I am usually scrubbing my pool and adding chemicals all Summer. I have done absolutely nothing to my pool at all other than adding chlorine to the automatic chlorinator. I do know that you are supposed to removed the cartridge if you are adding extra chemicals to the pool
Question: Can you use this with a copper ionizer
Answer: I would not- We have a 27,000 gallon pool and one of the main activate ingredients is 47% + or - a few is copper. You'll create more problems down the road with high copper levels. We put one in near the pump in April and it last until late Aug for us. We buy another one to replace that one just to be on the safe side. It really depends on the usage and what area you live in. We are in FL and its gets high usage. We have the chlorine dialed down to the lowest setting and we add 1 pound of granulated chlorine every week to week and a half depending on how heavy the rain is. Otherwise this is one of the best items we found for the pool that reduces the chemicals used and its worked well for us as some of the people using it has sensitive skin. No issues with skin problems for us with this PoolRX. Also they make a refill for this its almost the same as the new model so we end up buying the new one. A helpful hint for disposal. Once the life is out of the unit and you removed it, put it on solid ground and step on it. The plastic will separate and the metal inside will be loose. You can take all three parts and toss it into you recycling can.
Question: How do you know when it needs to be replaced? We’ve only had ours in for 3 months and we’ve got an alge issue again. Is that the ‘sign’ to replace it
Answer: Carolyn- Assuming your pool water is in balance to the following parameters: Chlorine 0.5 - 1.0 (ppm) pH 7.2 - 7.8 Alk 80 - 120 TDS 0 - 5000 Calcium Hardness 200 - 500 Cyanuric 10 - 80 If you are using the correct size unit for your pool (30K gallons or less) and are running your pump at least 6-8 hours per day then algae growth in the pool would indicate there is not enough of the PoolRx minerals reaming in your pool. If your pool is 20K gallons or less you will need to add 1 PoolRx Booster #102001 at this point. If your pool is between 20-40K gallons, you will need to add 2 PoolRx Boosters at this point. PoolRx is not a “Time Released” product. All the minerals will dissolve out of the unit within a few hours of install. A PoolRx unit is made of 2 parts: 1. Alloy treated cylinder in the middle of your blue or black unit is used to re-ionize the PoolRX minerals every time the two make contact. The cylinder portion of the system has a useful life of 12 MONTHS IN THE WATER. After 12 month in the chlorinated water, the alloy coating on the cylinder will be degraded to the point that it will no longer effectively re-charge the minerals. 2. PoolRx minerals these minerals come packed inside the cylinder of a Blue or Black unit or can be purchased separately as a Booster. Whether purchased as a part of a PoolRX unit or as Booster the minerals are the exact same formula and will do the exact same thing. These minerals completely dissolve into solution within a few hours of being placed in your skimmer or pump basket and form a residual throughout the pool water for up to 6 months. Over the 6 month period you will lose these minerals via algae kill and splash out. In order to keep the PoolRx minerals active for up to 6 months, you must also have the PoolRx cylinder in the water. Without making contact with the cylinder, the minerals will lose their effectiveness within 2-4 weeks of install. To treat your pool for 12 month period: 1. Install PoolRX Blue or Black unit (based on Pool Size) 2. Approx 6 months later add the Booster (keeping the Blue or Black unit in your Pool) 3. Approx 6 months after Booster install remove the PoolRx Blue or Black unit and replace with a new one beginning the 12 month cycle all over again. How are Minerals lost? PoolRx minerals are lost through algae kill, splash out back washing and filter cleaning. The more these factors happen, the more extreme the conditions, the shorter the lifespan of the minerals. How do I know when to add more minerals? PoolRx uses proprietary chelating agents that protect the minerals from falling out of solution. Because of this, the PoolRx minerals cannot be tested for in the water by your typical reagent test equipment. You will know you need more minerals based on these factors: 1. Time: It’s been 4-6 months since you first installed PoolRx. 2. Your chlorine demand goes back up to where it was prior to installing PoolRx. 3. Your water is cloudy or you start to see algae. Note: Because a small amount of minerals are still working in the water you will notice a gradual change over about a two week period. This gives you plenty of time to add a booster or new PoolRx unit.
Question: can you use it to close your pool
Answer: Yes!
Question: my pool is approximatly 50 % well water 10,000 gallons, what might happen if I use this product
Answer: Ours is all well water, and it worked well for us.
Question: What can i use to clear out dead algae
Answer: It depends if your filter is clean, but I will assume you backwash at least once a week for a couple minutes and rinse for about 30 seconds. Do the following: 1. put in the recommended dosage of algecide on the bottle. There is two recommendations on all algecide bottles for a preventive or maintenance dose, if you see it, it is maintenance requiring a higher dosage. Fill up your pool with tap water till it is above the top of the skimmer. Leave the pool filter overnight for 24 hours, next day. Turn off your pool pump, put it in Waste position, turn on the pump, remove your skimmer basket, and hook up your pool cleaning hose to the skimmer pipe attached to your pole and scrub vacuum. I am in the above ground pool doing all this maintenance the dead algae and other debris is being sucked out and the bigger stuff is collected in your pool pump basket. The dead algae and smaller particles do not go in the sand tank, they are be flushed out in your yard or wherever your out valve is directed (I have a spray cannon so it waters my lawn at the same time and kills the grass where it lands from the chlorine (LOL). You need to move very slowly a small step at a time so not to stir up the bottom until you finish the entire pool. Secure the power and put the pump in the closed position, remove the pump filter basket and clean it out the basket with a garden hose till it is spotless, and put it back in the pump and secure the top. Remove the pool vacuum and hose from the skimmer and the pool, and put the clean basket back in there. Next go to the pool pump and place it in the backwash position, turn on the pump for about 2-3 minutes or until the site glass shows clear looking water, then shut off the pump, move to the rinse position for 30-60 seconds and shut the pool pump off, turn to the filter position, and turn the pump back on. If the water level is not at half line, add water, also add quick dissolve shock directly to the skimmer. Wait 24 hours and check the pool and it should be clear, but may have more dead algae or dirt on the bottom. This time you can just remove the skimmer basket and hook up the vacuum hose and repeat the cleaning process which will collect the larger stuff in the pool pump basket and the algae will go to the pump, but you can move a bit quicker. When done, disconnect the vacuum and hose and put the skimmer basket back in, shut off the pump and if larger debris was in the pool clean out the pump basket as previously done and put it all back. Then move the valve to Backwash for 2 minutes, rinse for only 30 seconds, and back to filter after shutting the pool off for each position change. Again top off the water to the half way mark and add a little quick dissolve again to directly to the skimmer. PS: The main algae growth source is usually in ladders doing into the pool, so they need to be removed and washed with a strong Clorox-water solution and hosed off and allowed to dry. Algae needs two sources for growth. UVA/UVB Light and high temperature that is above 78 degrees which is why we do not have algae problems in the colder weather. I use a pool pump and elevate the water up in the air about 10-15 feet to cool the water over night and I live in the swamps of Louisiana. LOL
Question: Can you use with vinyl liner
Answer: yes I use this on a vinyl pool liner

In The Swim Super Pool Algaecide

In The Swim Super Pool Algaecide is a concentrated, non-foaming formula, allowing the use of smaller amounts which makes it easier to measure. Super pool algaecide is fast acting so it saves time and money. In the Swim Super Pool Algaecide can apply as a treatment or as a maintenance product. Works on many types of algae. Can be applied to in or above ground pools.

Before adding In The Swim Super Pool Algaecide, make sure to brush your pool and clean or backwash your filter. Empty skimmer and pump baskets. Turn on the main circulation pump. Super chlorinate according to water volume and interior type. This will build a chlorine residual.

Pour the recommended dosage into a chemical safe container. Mix with 9 parts of pool or hose water. Pour the diluted mixture around the perimeter of the pool. Safe to swim immediately.

PoolRx Pool Unit #101066 6 Month Algaecide Treats 20k - 30k gallons

PoolRx eliminates existing algae fast and prevents algae from coming back. The chelated minerals free up low levels of chlorine to be more productive in the water, providing amazing clarity. The minerals dissolve out of the unit completely and immediately to form a stable residual throughout the entire body of water. As the minerals pass over the PoolRx unit during circulation, they are rejuvenated to last longer. The minerals are used up through algae kill, back washing, splash out and filter cleanings. For longer season, larger pools, extreme conditions or green pools, you can add PoolRx booster minerals when needed. Replace the PoolRx unit at the beginning of each season for best results. PoolRx is ideal to use with Chlorine, Salt, UV or Ozone systems. Supporting any size body of water, PoolRx is perfect for both Residential and Commercial use.

User questions & answers

Question: Directions for use, step 1: "add a chlorine shock per use directions and run pump for one hour." do i need another product to use this product
Answer: I don’t know what size pool you have but it is good practice to shock (over chlorinate) every 3 months. Your pool supply company or Google can help. The reason you shock before clarifier is to kill algae first.
Question: Can I use this in our coleman above ground pool
Answer: We have an above ground pool that we use it on. Not a Coleman pool, it's a much older pool that we have had more than 15 years. The last liner replacement was three years ago and we've used this product on our liner without any noticable damage from this treatment. Hope this information helpful.
Question: Is this safe for saltwater pools
Answer: Yeah, It's just shock. Saltwater pools disinfect the same as any other pool it's just that the chlorine comes from salt in the water being broken down into Chlorine and Sodium by the saltwater element in the piping.
Question: My pool water is clear but I’m having a hard time killing the allege that is on the wall. Will this take care of that
Answer: Hi, We are the manufacturer of Clorox Pool and Spa products. This algaecide is a great algae killer. It will need the assistance of chlorine and the pH will need to be in the proper range. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-SOS-POOL.

User questions & answers

Question: Should i just use in the spring or can it be used in the fall as well? also are we talking put it in the skimmer or back in the basket by the filter
Answer: This is just the booster for the Pool Rx cartridge that should already be in the pump filter, which I change out every spring, then add the Pool Rx booster/algaecide replacement 4-6 months later depending on the amount of use my pool gets.
Question: What products do I need for my 20x40 pool? (Approximately 33,000 gallons of water
Answer: A pool RX unit is the best way to go. You can use liquid clorean and or 3inch tablets , just keep checking your pool with your test kit and you should not have to use any other chemicals in your pool. If you have heavy use or get a lot of rain shock it and you are going to be fine.
Question: Can you keep using booster tabs without ever replacing the original unit? What's the difference between the two other than the plastic cage? What about the booster granules, more expensive than the booster tab. Anyone know what's up with the booster granules
Answer: We use Poolrx in about 50 of our accounts. I only replace the blue unit if the customer loses it. Each spring we add a booster pack of minerals. No problems even with 9 year old blue units.
Question: How important is it to clean the filter first? I have a newer pool (Less than 6monthd old) but already have an algae problem
Answer: Very important to use after cleaning your filter. it goes in your pump basket and will go through your filter system. It helps fight algae and helps to lower your chlorine and acid consumption as well. If you have to clean your filter because it's dirty then you will lower the life of the product. Hope that helps.

LOL

User questions & answers

Question: Can this product be used with the saltwater system
Answer: I cannot imagine that it wouldn't be. But to be alcertain I would call a local pool supply store. I can also say that this brand is the best brand I have used so far in 3 years of owning a pool. Take that for what it's worth. I have only tried 2 other brands.
Question: Can this product be used in and around my dock in a lake? Wondering what to use to safely kill algae? THanks
Answer: No. It would flow away and dilute and not work like you think. It may get you fined (or worse) if you pour it in a lake. Stay legal ( Oh, and wear your mask.)
Question: Ok to use in pools with well water
Answer: Yes. I have used it for years and have a well with hard water but no iron. Not sure if iron makes a difference.
Question: is this a copper free based algaecide
Answer: It is classified as "metallic free" so I should be copper free
