13 best vinyl pool shocks

Vinyl pool shocks are a type of pool maintenance chemical used to treat swimming pools with vinyl liners. These shocks, typically containing chlorine compounds, play a crucial role in maintaining proper pool water chemistry, sanitizing the water, and preventing the growth of harmful microorganisms. Here are some key points about vinyl pool shocks:

  1. Sanitization: Vinyl pool shocks are primarily used for sanitizing pool water by releasing chlorine or other disinfectants. Chlorine helps kill bacteria, algae, and other contaminants in the water, ensuring that the pool remains safe for swimming.

  2. Oxidation: Besides sanitization, pool shocks also serve as oxidizers. They help break down organic matter and waste products like sweat, oils, and sunscreen, which can accumulate in the pool water. This oxidation process keeps the water clear and clean.

  3. Stabilization: Some vinyl pool shocks include stabilizers, such as cyanuric acid, which helps to protect chlorine from being rapidly degraded by sunlight. This stabilizer ensures that the chlorine remains effective for a more extended period.

  4. Shock Treatment: Vinyl pool shocks can be used for shock treatment, a process of adding a high dose of chlorine to the pool to quickly eliminate algae, cloudy water, or bacteria. This is usually done when the pool water becomes severely imbalanced or cloudy.

  5. Regular Maintenance: It's essential to maintain proper chlorine levels in your vinyl pool to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria. Regularly adding vinyl pool shocks as part of your pool maintenance routine helps ensure a safe and enjoyable swimming environment.

  6. Application: Vinyl pool shocks are typically available in granular or tablet form. They can be added directly to the pool water according to the manufacturer's instructions. It's crucial to follow the recommended dosage to avoid over-chlorination or under-chlorination.

  7. Safety: When handling vinyl pool shocks, it's essential to wear appropriate safety gear, including gloves and eye protection. Additionally, store these chemicals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children and pets.

  8. Water Testing: Regularly test your pool water to monitor chlorine levels, pH, and other water parameters. This will help you determine when it's necessary to add vinyl pool shocks to maintain proper water chemistry.

In summary, vinyl pool shocks are essential chemicals for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of swimming pools with vinyl liners. They play a key role in sanitizing the water, preventing algae and bacteria growth, and ensuring that the pool remains enjoyable for swimmers. Product features

HTH Super Shock Treatment

Shock treat your pool at least once a week to kill unwanted bacteria and algae and to give your pool the boost of chlorine it needs to keep your water clean and clear.

The hth Super Benefit

This is an effective shock product that kills bacteria and algae and restores crystal clarity to pool water within 24 hours, reduces chlorine odor and eye irritation caused by swimming pool water and won’t fade liners. It is convenient, easy to use, and won’t over-stabilize your pool.

Application Directions

Turn on the filter pump. Empty skimmer of chemicals and debris. Pour the product slowly into skimmer, making sure that the material is drawn into the system at the same rate, Do not allow this material to accumulate as toxic gases may be generated. Test free available chlorine residual with an hth pool test kit or test strips. Don't enter pool until the free available chlorine residual is 1-4 ppm.

Why Shock?

There are a myriad of factors working against your cleanliness of your pool water at all times: -Sunlight is breaking down your chlorine. You can lose up to 5 parts per million of your chlorine in one sunny afternoon -Swimmers are innocently delivering lots of bacteria and contaminants, like sweat. makeup and sunscreen -Storms come often in the summertime and bring with them dust, pollen, leaves and algea spores Shocking is one of the best ways to help your pool water look great and it's also the best way to protect it from all of the aforementioned contaminants.

When to Shock

In ideal circumstances, shocking your pool just once a week will keep it looking clean and clear, but any heavy rainfall, signs of algae, use by lots of swimmers, or periods of very sunny weather can deplete free chlorine levels, which means an extra dose of hth Shock is needed.Sundown is optimum time to shock your pool because the chlorine can work without fighting the sun's ultraviolet rays and has more time to restore water clarity. Luckily, shocking is very easy and we're here to walk you through it.

Follow the 4 steps

Step 1 Make sure your pH level is between 7.2-7.6. Adjust accordingly if needed. Also make sure your pump is running. Step 2 Snip the corner off the shock product you've chosen for your pool and sprinkle it along the deepest end of the water. Step 3 If any granules settle at the bottom, use a brush to help disperse them evenly. Step 4 Finally, wait until your free available chlorine levels are between 1 and 4 ppm (parts per million) before using your pool.

In The Swim Pool Shock Treatment

Swimming pool shock treatments are an essential aspect of spring pool opening but can also be used to give your pool a quick chlorine boost. Pool Shock is our most popular and versatile pool shock treatment, used to kill algae and bacteria and remove micro-contaminants that make pool water cloudy.

Use our Pool Shock to kill visible algae blooms and invisible bacteria, which could cause illness to swimmers. Your daily chlorination of the pool will kill most pathogenic bacteria, viruses and microbes, however to be sure that the water is sanitary, it is good practice to 'shock the pool', or super-chlorinate the pool every few weeks, to oxidize everything in the water, especially the invisible germs that may be harboring in the water.

Reliable & Easy to Use

In The Swim Pool Shock is our most economical chlorine shock treatment for pools, sold in convenient 1 lb. bags. Powerful formula contains 99% calcium hypochlorite in a powerful 68% available chlorine formula. Granular chlorine Pool Shock is used for a variety of purposes to sanitize and disinfect pools, spas and fountains. Easy to use Pool Shock effectively treats 10,000 gallons of pool water per bag.

Kills Algae & Bacteria

Use our Pool Shock to kill visible algae blooms and invisible bacteria, which could cause illness to swimmers. Your daily chlorination of the pool will kill most pathogenic bacteria, viruses and microbes, however to be sure that the water is sanitary, it is good practice to 'shock the pool', or super-chlorinate the pool every few weeks, to oxidize everything in the water, especially the invisible germs that may be harboring in the water.

Super Chlorinate

One pound of In The Swim Pool Shock will raise free chlorine levels in a clean and balanced pool to 9 ppm, per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Pools with excessive debris, algae, suspended particles or heavy sunlight will need a proportionally higher dose of pool shock, to compensate for such factors. A double or triple dose is often required for poor water conditions such as spring openings, bacteria contamination, or severe algae blooms.

Answer: Yes, i use it in my salt water pool, one bag a week
Question: Haven't ordered this in awhile. Do I have it right that the price for a single 50-lb tub has doubled in the last 6-8 months
Answer: I just sprinkle around pool
Question: How large are the tabs (3 inch or smaller) and how many tabs in each 50 lb bucket
Answer: Good question: I reviewed several sources and found the answers to be complicated. My opinion is that Granular calcium hypochlorite contains 65 percent of available chlorine. Therefore, if you are currently using sodium hypochlorite (12%), then you can make an equivalent stock solution by mixing 1.5 pounds of granular calcium hypochlorite to each gallon of water in the stock solution tank. Source of information http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=93148 The solid form (Calcium Hypochlorite) seems easier to use which is why I purchase that one. Additionally, the cost per unit of chlorine from the calcium hypochlorite seems to be less expensive. Again, sources of information show differing numbers including the amount of free chlorine released from each unit. It may be a good idea to try each one then test the resultant solution for the amount of available Chlorine.

In The Swim Cal-Chlor Chlorine Granular

Swimming pool shock treatments are an essential aspect of spring pool opening but can also be used to give your pool a quick chlorine boost. Cal-Chlor Chlorine Granular is a strong pool shock treatment which is used to kill algae and bacteria as well as other harmful water contaminants. It is also a great shock to use for Spring pool openings.

Use our Cal-Chlor Chlorine Granular to kill visible algae blooms and invisible bacteria, which could cause illness to swimmers. Your daily chlorination of the pool will kill most bacteria and other contaminants. To be sure that the water is completely sanitary, it is best to super chlorinate by shocking the pool every few weeks. Doing this also allows you to oxidize everything in the water, especially the various contaminants that may exist in the water.

Pool Care and Maintenance

It is important to maintain your pool/spa to keep it clean and healthy all year round. Good habits, such as cleaning your filter or emptying your skimmer basket, will ensure that your investment is protected for years to come. But most importantly, you and your family will be able to enjoy the swimming pool or spa each season.

Water Testing

Testing the water weekly or bi-weekly, depending on use and outside variables, helps keep your pool/spa water healthy. Utilizing a DPD or OTO reagent-based water test kit, test strips, or digital testing will help you monitor the pool or spa water chemistry.

Adjusting and Balancing

Adjusting and balancing your pool or spa water chemistry ensures that you will get the most out of the swimming season. The benefit of having good pH and Alkalinity levels is that it will increase the ability of your main sanitizer to kill bacteria. Balanced pool water chemistry will also reduce chemical and maintenance costs. Balanced pH and alkalinity help prevent corrosion and scale formation on the interior pool surface and surrounding equipment.

Sanitizing

There are many different types of sanitizers used in various pool and spa environments. Clean and healthy water starts by establishing a proper residual chlorine level with shock or concentrated granular chlorine. The most common way to maintain a proper chlorine level is by using trichlor chlorine tablets in either a floater or chemical feeder. Applying these steps to your normal maintenance plan will ensure the elimination of non-living organic contaminants, bacteria, micro organisms, and algae making your water safe to enjoy.

Pool Fun and Safety

Now that the water is properly balanced and sanitized, it’s time to get in there and have some fun! We recommend enhancing your outdoor living environment with games, floats or loungers, toys, and accessories. Get creative!

Safety is of the utmost importance, and there are many ways to help make your pool/spa safer. Having a life ring buoy, a shepherd's hook, depth markers, coast guard-approved life preservers, door and water alarms and having your local aquatic environment safety regulations on-hand will ensure a fun and safe environment for your family.

Treatment

Even after all your preparation, sometimes life happens and your pool or spa can get away from you. In those moments, we need to start back from the beginning with testing of the water. Now that you have a clear idea of the current readings, your next steps will depend on the type of symptoms your water is presenting. This may include an issue such as algae (green, yellow, black, etc.), cloudiness, living organics, debris, and other water conditions.

User questions & answers

Question: Hi, Does this contain stabilizers? And or copper
Answer: Hi, We are the manufacturer of Clorox Pool&Spa products. The Shock Xtrablue can be used to open a pool in case there are contaminants that accumulated over the winter time. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-SOS-POOL.
Question: Is it safe to ise in an inflatable pool without a pump system
Answer: Yes for an indoor or covered spa. If it gets sun you want a stabilized product.
Question: Is this safe for Vinyl Pools
Answer: I had this issue the first time as well. Examine the red lock tab to see how it locks into place by falling into those holes. You need to pull up on that. Thing is, mine had already been pulled up. So instead of concentrating my energy on that I stood up, grabbed the top of the bucket with both hands and turned it left in order to open it. Simply grabbing it from the side with one hand was not enough the first time so you'll need both hands and grab from the top. Have another person hold the red tab up at the same time and it should open easily.
Question: is this ideal to open an above ground pool for the season
Answer: Yes, prices have changed (a lot )specially during summer.

User questions & answers

Question: Why would these cleaning tablets be recommended for a 14x36 pool that only holds 2,400 gallons
Answer: We are the manufacturer of HTH Super 3" Chlorinating Tablets and these are for pools of 10,000 gallons or more. For a 2,400 gallon pool we would recommend our HTH 1" Chlorinating Tablets. If you have any questions please contact us at 866-484-7665.
Question: Is this gonna blow up if I take it out of the pool, ppm is off the scale >10 and manufacturer is not answering their phone
Answer: No, the tablets do not 'blow up' when removed from water. If you're getting a high ppm reading you may be using too many tablets for your pool's size. Our pool is approximately 28,000 gallons, and we use two tablets in a floating container/distributor. We augment the tablets with once-a-week shock. If we have to add water (we live in the Florida Keys), or get a lot of rain we'll adjust the chemicals accordingly. Also, be sure you're running your pump and filter at least 8 hours a day for dispersal of chemicals.
Question: We just bought a 15 ft, 33 inch fast set pool. What would be the best to use
Answer: We are the manufacturer of HTH Super 3" Chlorinating Tablets and one of these tablets is for 10,000 gallons of water. For your size pool we recommend our HTH 1" Chlorinating Tablets. If you have any more questions please call us at 866-484-7665.
Question: My chlorine is really low, the ph and alkaline are high. What do I add
Answer: We are the manufacturer of HTH Super 3" chlorinating tablets. If your alkalinity and pH are too high you will need to adjust those by using HTH pH Down or Decreaser. For more information please call us at 866-484-7665 and we will be happy to help.

Algae can turn pool water green. HTH Super 3" Chlorinating Tablets destroy algae and bacteria to keep the water looking blue.

1 Tablet Works for up to 1 Week

This easy-to-use chlorine tablet dissolves slowly and effectively to sanitize your pool. One tablet keeps working for up to one week per 10,000 gallons.
