13 best bug baits
Bug baits are products used in pest control, specifically designed to attract and eliminate various types of insects and pests in outdoor areas, often in the context of gardening or maintaining a pest-free patio or lawn. Here's what you should know about bug baits:
Purpose: Bug baits are formulated to lure insects and pests away from desired areas, such as gardens, patios, or lawns. By attracting them to the bait, it makes it easier to control or eliminate them.
Types of Pests: Bug baits can be tailored to target specific types of pests, such as ants, flies, wasps, mosquitoes, and more. Different baits are formulated with attractants that are known to be appealing to particular pests.
Attractants: Bug baits contain attractants that mimic the pheromones or scents that insects and pests find irresistible. These attractants vary depending on the target pest.
Formulations: Bug baits come in various forms, including gels, granules, powders, or liquid concentrates. The choice of formulation depends on the application method and the target pest.
Application Methods: Bug baits can be applied directly to the ground, placed in traps, or hung in specific areas where pests are problematic. Some baits are designed for use with bait stations, which can help protect pets and non-target wildlife.
Safety: It's essential to follow the instructions on bug bait products carefully to ensure safe and effective use. Some baits may contain pesticides, so proper handling and storage are crucial.
Effectiveness: The effectiveness of bug baits can vary depending on the type of pest, environmental conditions, and the specific product used. Some baits provide quick results, while others may require time to take effect.
Environmentally Friendly Options: There are eco-friendly bug bait products available that do not harm non-target insects and wildlife. These can be a more sustainable choice for pest control.
Outdoor Use: Bug baits are typically used in outdoor settings to manage pest populations in gardens, on patios, near water features, or in other areas where insects can become a nuisance.
Maintenance: Regular monitoring and replacement of bug baits may be necessary, especially for continuous pest control. Some baits may lose their effectiveness over time or due to exposure to the elements.
Bug baits are a valuable tool in pest control for outdoor spaces, as they can help reduce the presence of unwanted insects and pests. When using bug baits, it's important to choose the right product for the specific pest problem, apply it correctly, and prioritize safety and environmental considerations.

User questions & answers
Question: | How long can you leave the gel on the cracks before needing to clean/wipe it away |
Answer: | If you have pets you do not treat their food or water. You put Advion where roaches are most likely to travel. Put it where they poop also. I put it under the fridge and the stove, in cracks and crevices where they hide. |
Question: | Can you use this on kitchen counters |
Answer: | No, the product is excellent as long as is fresh. I purchase a 4 tube pk. in January of 2019 and I was not able to eradicate the problem because of the leftover gel wouldn't work, not even 3 months later. Make sure is fresh stock. I have to buy again and I am looking between sellers to see if one put expiration dates. The product is really good works well it is just the shelf life is short. |
Question: | Are the disk openings large enough for large cockroaches (American and/or Oriental species |
Answer: | Currently this product is 0.6% indoxacarb and the Advion Ant Gel is only at 0.05% indoxacarb. This has 12 times more indoxacarb than the ant product. If the ants find this palatable they will eat it. Some ants like carbohydrates like roaches do, so they they will probably eat this. I would not put the weaker ant stuff out with a roach infestation, because it will not kill them and instead they will get more resistant to indoxacarb. |
Question: | How long until roaches die |
Answer: | I reapply once every year usually. But I’ve been known to do every six months as well. It all depends on how bad you have it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the bait evaporate? It seems all my baits are reducing at same rate, which makes me think evaporation...what is rate of evaporation |
Answer: | : I dont think it is Counterfeit. I just purchased this and I got results immediately. I only used a little bit of 1 tube on Monday night and Tuesday morning I saw dead or almost dead bugs all over my kitchen. More then I thought were even present. On Tuesday I saw more dead bugs and even less on Wed. I saw 1 tiny one on Wed, and today I have not seen any so far. I do know that I watched plenty of videos on Youtube about different products and several on this product and decided to go with this. I would recommend based on my experience. I would say go to Youtube and see those reviews and how to apply it. I learned quite a bit and followed those instructions. I also think that some people may not see results that they want because they dont apply it again for the babies that will be born to eat. If the bugs that are already alive eat all of the bait then there is not any left for the born babies that come later that are protected in the sac thing. My plan is to reapply every 7 days for a month. This particular one does not have the growth regulator in it so that is why I will reapply for any babies. So I would say buy it. Look at Youtube first to see the reviews and how they say to apply it. You have to use small little drops and not spread it big or in a line. If you do bugs tend to avoid it according to the exterminator guy on Youtube. if it does not work for you return it and try the other brand that starts with a V. Advion got better reviews though but the 1 with that starts with V does have the growth regulator. This is only the first week. I live in a condo and have never had bugs before until recently so I will come back and update by review to see how it is working but so far I recommend this company and this vendor. This is long but I hope this helps. |
Question: | can they be set at different angles? #2 What about the guarantee? Hot Shot bug bombs were worthless, did nothing to the roaches, none dead |
Answer: | Works for All Roach species. Depends what you mean by Waterbug. If you are taking about the bugs on water then no. |
Question: | i am pretty disgusted" with the directions.....i want to use this and do you take it out of the black container? it falls out when you pull the tab |
Answer: | Not anymore . Syngenta now has to authorize all sellers of their products . Amazon blocks all sellers that are not authorized by Syngenta . |
Question: | They seem to dry out very quickly, in a matter of weeks. How long are these things supposed to last |
Answer: | It's questionable if it's effective for large American cockroaches, which is what I have. It's not that it wouldn't kill them; it's that American cockroaches live outside and occasionally wander in in search of food. The bait dries up and gets hard pretty quickly before they even have a chance of eating it. I can't tell if any of the bait I've put down has been touched. And it's a pain to have to keep applying fresh bait, which then dries up overnight. I think the bait stations by Combat for large roaches might be a better option. I've had success, albeit temporarily, with those in the past. |

Question: | I only see scattering of ants is this going to attract more ants |

User questions & answers
Question: | Cuántas trampas trae |
Answer: | 12 |
Question: | will these boards trap ants |
Answer: | Although glue boards are effective for trapping spiders, roaches and other insects I don’t see ants on my glue boards. There are other more effective ways of getting rid of ants, mainly with ant bait that ants carry back to the ant colony, |
Question: | Can they be left flat or do you have to fold |
Answer: | They can be left flat. That is the way I use them so I can readily see if I caught anything. I also put a small amount of peanut butter in the center of the flat board to further attract the mouse. I use them mostly in the garage. |
Question: | Is there any unscented variety? I do not want something scented like peanut butter |
Answer: | The scent on these Trapper Max Glue Traps is so subtle most people don't notice it but very effective in attracting bugs and mice. But if you are very sensitive to any smell you can search "Trapper Max Free Mouse Glue boards" on Amazon. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why wont it ship to Floral park NY |
Answer: | Actually it really doesn't matter, if you put it under the kick plate of the cabinet or not. ....put it where you think roaches stays a lot or where you see them most. I put mine under the sink, cupboards, corners and near the ovens....I'll suggest to get the gel combat with it to get the maximum protection. ...my problem with roaches is history and I feel safe now that they're not around in terms of getting diseases cause by them. And if I see them, they're dead.....hope this help because I know how it feels to have roaches around. Good luck! |
Question: | once opened does it dry out in the syringe |
Answer: | I also live in a 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment and I've been using the single pack of 16 pieces for the past several years with success.I strategically place the units on all walls that are adjacent to other units. |
Question: | Alright so it's gel, what do i do with it? put spots around the house and they eat it |
Answer: | That's about the size the ones I was dealing with were. I believe they were German roaches, if that helps. Just make sure you use the 12-month ones, the other kinds don't work. I think they probably use stronger stuff in the 12-month ones. |
Question: | After the soft gel is applied it hardens overnight .... Is the gel just as effective once it hardens... thanks |
Answer: | The first question is whether your cat can ingest the "poison". The bait stations are little plastic containers. They have small openings that the roaches go through to get to the bait. I doubt a cat could get its tongue through such a small opening. But they could possibly chew through the plastic container. The second question is if the car did eat the bait, would it harm them? The active ingredient is Fipronil. This is The primary ingredient in many flea treatment products for pets. So dogs and cats apparently tolerate Fipronil well. Fipronil is the active ingredient of this product and is only 1/200 of the bait so the amount contained is very small.given that it is difficult to get at, the amount is very small and Fipronil is already used on cats. .. this world seem to be pet safe. But ultimately you need to make that decision. I would ask your vet about whether your cat could be harmed if they ingested Fipronil from a roach bait trap.i hope this info is helpful. I used peteducation.com and parasitepedia.net as resources - good luck! |

Question: | What size is each single station |
Answer: | Not very big but they work better than i expected. |
Question: | The product description says it's for large roaches while the picture says it's for small ones. Which one is true |
Answer: | The ones I got (several) say on the box Small) but what is small? And for that matter what are large? Looking inside each small trap 2" X 2" X 3/8 tall, there are 4 rectangle holes where the roaches go in and get poison to take back to the nest. Each rectangle hole is 1/4 inch wide by 1/8 inch tall. |
Question: | Is it safe to put this in my laundry room where it can get really humid and moist |
Answer: | yes, I use them in my laundry rooms and bathrooms, inside the area where the pipes come into the room. They work. If you have larger roaches, you will need to get the Combat Roach motel. |
Question: | Do you see dead bugs with this or do they eat it and take it to their nest |
Answer: | They take it to their nest, and the entire nest dies over time. You won't normally see any dead bugs around this bait. |

Vendetta Cockroach Gel Bait is a high-performance gel bait containing abamectin B1. Vendetta works on tough, hard-to-kill roach populations. Attracts both bait-averse and non-averse cockroaches. Vendetta Roach Bait is easy to handle and apply and dispenses smoothly and easily from the gel tube. Comes with a plunger for applying the bait. The tubes also fit standard bait guns such as the Masterline Professional Bait Gun. Shelf life is 3 years or more if stored at room temperature.
User questions & answers
Question: | How is this compared to combat max gel |
Answer: | It is still good for 1 year after applying. If it's not eaten by then you can remove it. But it lasts a year once applied. Inside the tube it lasts 5 years if stored correctly. But no it does not disappear unless its eaten. |
Question: | does it work as well as Advion or better |
Answer: | Cockroaches are cockroaches! I don’t know the difference between Turkestan cockroaches any other but this product works! Be patient! Follow the directions and they will die! This might sound nasty but don’t clean up the dead ones. They eat each other and the poison kills the live ones. 30 days and you won’t see any. You’ll know it’s working because they won’t run away when they see you. They become disoriented and die. |
Question: | I have never used this before so do you HAVE to use a plunger to get the product our of the tubes? One review said their order did not include the advertised plunger so the product was useless until they could order a plunger. Please advise |
Answer: | Yes. When you take the cap off, they have included in a small sealed bag, mine had two of them needle like applicators, I figured cause two tubes come with it. And it has one plunger. You screw the needle like ends on simply and then squirt away. :-) A helpful tip is, when moving from one spot to another, pull back on the plunger or it'll keep letting it come out and drip cause the pressure., just pull back and it won't make a mess. :-) |
Question: | What is the difference between this and Vendetta Plus |
Answer: | At first we noticed a few dead ones, it took a few days (guessing it's from ones lingering around). Then after about a month, we had realized we hadn't seen any lives one in a while. So far this year, I live in South Louisiana so the tree roached that show up are pretty active and large, plus we have had a lot of rain and we have hardly seen any maybe 4 or 5. I am about to re-applicate just to make sure we don't start seeing an influx of them coming out. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many traps come in this box |
Answer: | No, but don't let that be a major concern. It has been my experience the roaches will go to the bait. Maybe they can smell it or something. If you are really concerned, put some of that tape that has two sticky sides on the bottom of the bait. We put ours in drawers, under appliances and behind furniture. We especially targeted the kitchen and baths. You will also have to keep your grass short otherwise the roaches can hide there. Also, keep all leaves and other debris swept from all outside walls of your home. Be especially careful about spilled water and food crumbs.Other than that, check the bates every week. If it is getting empty, replace it. They sent us a lot of the bates.Good luck.Yvonne |
Question: | Do you have to inject bait from a syringe into the product |
Answer: | I had the same experience with these roach bait arenas from advion, completely ineffective. What worked wonders for me was the combat roach bait traps that kills the nest. the only roaches I've seen after putting down the combat roach traps are dead ones. Problem solved. |
Question: | Does it work on ants |
Answer: | My renters have lived in the house for over a year with approx 72 of these in the home in that time. No complaints. Just make sure you follow the instructions for safety and placement. |
Question: | Does the bait in the traps become ineffective after a while? I bought some a while ago and there’s still poison in them |
Answer: | I have not used this product, but I did use the syringe version of Advion Roach Gel and it worked amazingly for large flying roaches. The results lasted several years. If in doubt about the size of the opening, there is another option. |

Question: | Will these work for spiders and oriental roaches |
Answer: | Hi Tanya F, thank you for the inquiry regarding our Hot Shot HG-96591 Ultra Liquid Roach Bait. The product can evaporate over time depending where the product is located and if near any heat sources. The satisfaction of our consumers is very important to us. Please contact us at 1-800-917-5438 or email us at [email protected] so that we may better assist you. |
Question: | How many tablets does it have....?...."Approximately 100 tablets or Approximately 50 tablets"....?....Thanks |
Answer: | We had a bad problem & we bought 12 the first go round & saw way fewer bugs, in the first few weeks. We currently buy baits about every 3 months to maintain bug freedom. These are the only thing working otc. As far as different angles. They have to sit on a flat horizontal surface. I won't buy anything else |
Question: | can you put them in the corners of your cabinets next to dishes? I cannot seem to find this information anywhere |
Answer: | Same as everyone has said here except don't pull tab off quickly or carelessly and definitely not angled towards you. It spritzes when you pull tab off. It can get on you and if your mouth is open you will taste it for longer than you want. Like long after you rinsed your mouth out, ate, drank fluids etc... NOT regretting purchase AT ALL. Roaches in my house can die. someone did some construction and pulling up stuff in their backyard and we got dumped with the fall out of silverfish and roaches of what seemed to be 2 different species. Hot Mess! So I was not upset at the spritz. But I had a burning sensation that lasted even after washing a few times. Have to wash face and hands and anything that this gets on like 5 times. Finally my Neutrogena face towels for makeup removal and cleaning in the blue pack removed a good amt more. Felt different. This is really potent stuff and I would use gloves and goggles and a face mask to undo the tabs and such. AND CLEAN AREA AFTER USE. DO NOT USE IN KITCHEN WITHOUT A THOROUGH MULTIPLE TIMES SOAPY WASH DOWN OF ENTIRE AREA. DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. NOT FACE, NOT FOOD, NOT ANYTHING OR YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU ONLY WASH YOUR HANDS LIKE 2 OR 3 TIMES. HAD 2 THROW OUT CHICKEN. Just my 2 cents. hot shot is always way more potent to me than other sprays and such so... At least I had confirmation a roach would hate it! This is day or should I say night 1. Hope it works well. I think they'll drop dead on contact. |
Question: | I need to be able to put something out under our outdoor deck. Would these tablets work |
Answer: | It depends on how many roaches are drinking from it, the temperature in the house, and the humidity. I wasn't sure about this either, so I placed some on sticky traps. One showed a marked reduction in liquid level, yet there were no bugs (aside from two small spiders) on the sticky trap. It was in the cabinet above the stove where it's much warmer and only lasted about 3 weeks. I feel if you have an infestation these will be a good part of the solution but shouldn't be the only part. |
