Answer:	As I recall, the ad says the sail is not waterproof; rain will pass through the "up" side. If you were to stand under the sail and shoot water from a hose upward, it would pass through from the bottom, too. It's just not likely that anyone would do that, since they'd get wet! You could loosen two corners or take the entire thing down and wash it with a hose. They do get dirty with bird droppings, leaves, and plain old dirt, so you'd want to wash it off occasionally.

How to Measure

1. Shade sail's measurement should be taken from corner to corner.
2. Approximate how much area you want to shade. Locate 4 mounting points, they can be roof, trees, poles, wall, etc.
3. Take measurement of the 4 mounting points, leave 0.5 ft to 1 ft space for the hardware kits between the shade sail and the mounting points.
4. Install the hardware kits on 4 mounting points.

How to Install

1. If the space between shade sail and hardware kit is more than 1 ft, use cable wires as extension, to connect the shade sail to the hardware kits.
2. Install the shade sail, connect the D-ring to the hardware kits or cable wires.
3. Adjust the turnbuckles to create tension.

Answer:	I have a 16'x16'x16' and it is NOT rain proof. Like other mesh shades rain droplets will drip thru, but it won't be like you're literally standing in the rain.

Answer:	I would put cedar 4x4 posts in the ground with a little cement. They are strong and weather-proof for 15-20 years (used on fences).

Answer:	More than 7’ depending the stand. Also be prepare for a sturdy and heavy one. The pole it’s aluminum and very thin. it wouldn’t withstand winds more than 7-9 mph. I reinforced mine inserting a 24” PVC pipe (painted black) in he cast iron 26 pounds stand. The screw it’s tide now and even though looks sturdy. The umbrella tills with winds more than 12mph.

Answer:	Hmm! I didn't need any additional tools to get them onto the tubing, although it did take some effort. I put the tip of the prong in and then twisted it back and forth while pushing down. The prongs are quite sturdy and I didn't have any problems with breakage. Might also try leaving the 1/4" tubing sitting in the sun for an hour to soften up a bit.

Answer:	We chose sand because it is the most neutral color and will not be the first thing noticed on our patio. Let's face it, we aren't buying a sail for shade because it's trendy. It's hot here in south Texas and we have no mature trees on our property. We needed shade and needed it quick.

Answer:	We have not had a problem with rusting. I believe they are made our of stainless steel. We have had a problem with the D rings breaking. 2 different rings on 2 different sail shades have broken this summer.

Answer:	I live where it never rains. I won't leave them up during snow season but if I did I think they would hold up ok but I'm not certain. We had them up all summer and they were great.

Answer:	We live in north western Ontario Canada where it is also windy. As the fabric is woven, and not pvc coated we have found that the wind blows along it rather than catching it like a sail. The material is extremely durable and has weathered several storms this past year with out any damage. The fasteners are heavy duty as is the webbing and stitching. I’m sure you would be very satisfied.

Answer:	I don't know of a standard that would grade something like this into consumer or commercial grades, but it is very well constructed from good materials and should last several years under normal use.
Question:	What type of load do these put on the posts, as far as tension? Would a 6x6 treated timber deflect if used for all 3 anchor points
Answer:	Yes you can attach to trees. I have mine attached to stucco walls! Just make sure you have a good drill and large drill bits so you can pre drill hole for attachment hardware for your sun shade.

Answer:	No, it is a loose weave and rain would pass through. The weave allows wind to pass through so they stay up for shade and not get blown over.

Answer:	We tied one side high up in a tree. Then we put tie down eyes in the roof ridge of our shed and the eves of our house. On each corner of the sail we used snap swivels for ease of removal during wind storms and tied it all with 300 lb. test cordage. After you have the thing up for a day you may have to tighten it because everything stretches a little. good luck! :-)
