HOW TO RERESTING:

You don’t take it apart. You spin it until the arrow lines up with the hole. Then you just feed about ten feet of line on each side and spin it. It spools up as you spin. If you have leftover line inside the spool you will need to take the unit off to empty the line. You are supposed to be able to press- in the panels on the side enough to clear the retaining ledge to free the top of the unit to pull out the spool (you have to do this on both sides)

To do this you hold the bottom of the unit and turn the top part (with the holes). Then you run about 10-12 feet of line through the holes (5-6 feet extending on each side). Then hold the bottom piece and turn the top to load the line onto the spool.

Answer:	Plastic with the high stress points made of metal. I'm an engineer and there is nothing wrong with plastic if the correct plastic is used and the design is made for using plastic. This head looks like an okay design but I have no idea if a correct plastic was used. So far mine works fine but it does use up a little more line than a regular string head since the short ends are thrown away when you reload. I recommend the trimmer head for the price.
