Problems with Starter
A faulty small engine starter can be caused by many issues including a dead battery, faulty electrical connection, corroded terminals, defective solenoid or starter switch, worn or sticking brushes as well as other reasons for a replacement.
How to Replace a Starter
Always disconnect the spark plug before working on engine. In most cases you will need to remove the air filter and engine housing to locate the starter. Then unscrew the wire attached to the starter and carefully loosen mounting bolts. With the correct new starter, mount to engine and re-attach wire.
Starting Tips
Pull start engines should start within three pulls. For 12V engine starters, use short starting cycles (five seconds maximum) and wait one minute between starting cycles.

| Answer: | B&S made the 2 and 2 1/2 a long time ago. However there are still parts available to repair them. Your first piece of research will be to locate the Identifyng numbers that tell you the model ,type and code in that order. These are stamped into the metal cover sometimes hidden from view and may require a bit of disassembling in order to find and read the string of numbers (about 18 in my case). Once you have these you can get started in looking for parts. Glad to help John L. |
