While you usually have to keep your finger on the trigger to keep it running, if you pull the lock button all the way back while it's running, it will stay locked. Arguably this is "less safe" - power tools are inherently dangerous any way. This one (supposedly) cuts 3/4" branches, while other "safer" models cut only 1/2" or 5/8". This makes it more likely to accidentally sever a human digit. So it depends on whether you want a safe tool, or one that does the job it's designed to do.

Question:	How hard is it to assemble
Answer:	It’s not hard at all. The only two things to assemble are the front guard and the handle that goes right behind it. The guard snaps in place, and the handle you snap in place and secure with the 2 screws that are supplied with the trimmer. The handle will only fit on the trimmer one way as the two ends will only match with the unit in one direction. The same is true with the guard.

Answer:	I have both, and I see no difference in power. Certainly more voltage should mean more powerful cutting, but only if the motor is also upgraded to a more powerful one. I suspect that wasn't done. - I've noticed the same thing with the Black & Decker sweeper/blower. I have both the 18 V and the 40 V sweeper/ blower, and the 18 V is noticeably more powerful than the 40 V. The only instance with these Black & Decker tools where I have noticed that the 40 V is more powerful than the 18 V, is the string trimmer. The 40 V string trimmer is MUCH more powerful than the 18 V.
Question:	Has anyone sharpened the blades on this hedge trimmer? Was it difficult? I would also like to know how long it took the blades to dull
Answer:	The best way to sharpen hedge trimmers and other like equipment is with a Dremel tool with their 453 5/32 grinding tool. You really don't need to do any disassembly but you do need to be able to move the blade from the closed to open position. Just grind each face of the cutting surface. These stones are great on bandsaws, too. My saw has a 144" blade on it and I can sharpen all the teeth in about fifteen minutes. Use these stones on hand held clippers and lawn shears, too.

Turn the unit upside and down in one hand and push the blade cover gently by the other hand. then slide the blade cover like the photo.

SECOND STEP TO CHANGE BLADES

Remove the blade gently by lifting the end tip of the blade off of the grass shear +hedge trimmer unit.

THIRD STEP TO CHANGE BLADES

Align the gear shaft in the middle of the blade with the gear in the middle of the unit. So that the blade lays flat against the housing for a secure fit.

FORTH STEP TO CHANGE BLADES

Question:	Why Cant i get two parts to snap together? I suspect the cord is in the way
Answer:	wiggle the bottom half till it goes in farther; has to click on two holes that aren't too far in; yes, the umbilical/phone cord thing seems to be in the way.
Question:	Does this work better than a hedge trimmer attachment for a gas trimmer ? Or better than a standard electric trimmer and ladder
Answer:	This works much better than the bulk and weight of hedge trimmer attachment on a gas trimmer (Much quieter and less vibration, too) and WAY BETTER than standard hand-held short blade electric trimmer and ladder. This is my fourth pole-mounted hedge trimmer (previously, 2 homelite and a Black&Decker) and this is by far the best. I have 14 cypress trees to trim (each nearly 20 feet high), with very limited space to access. My previous pole-mounted trimmer was just a wee bit too short, so I needed a ladder anyway, and the trigger was at the far end when extended, so awkward to keep in reach. The Sun Joe has better placement of the extension relative to the trigger, so easier for a more relaxed reach and grip. The shoulder strap is not so much helpful in the tight quarters I have to work in, but useful for some other junipers I have to trim. I highly recommend the Sun Joe over any other. I chose the corded version vs. the cordless-mostly because it is a 5-6 hour process and I did not want to run out of charge or have to keep extra batteries on hand. If you have less to trim, the cordless may be okay, but either one is good.

Question:	Does this tool make a loud annoying noise? Can I use it early in the morning when everybody is asleep
Answer:	My husband has had three gas powered weed eaters and they are loud no matter what the mfg says. THIS product has never caused anybody in my family to wake up, even if I am right outside the bedroom window. Mine was purchased in 2019 in case there were earlier, louder versions, I don’t know.
Question:	How would these work for cutting back Ornamental grasses
Answer:	If you were cutting the ornamental grass well before new growth starts, near the base where there are bleached out old stems, it might have something to grab onto and work. If you were trying to cut through slim, green blades I don't think it would. I am an avid gardener and find the traditional, manual hedge trimmers like 'TABOR TOOLS B620A Hedge Shears' to be effective for grasses.
Question:	What is the difference between the snow joe cordles grass shear and the sun joe
Answer:	Sun Joe and Snow Joe are the same company, so I don't think there is a difference. The Snow Joe brand name I thought, was specifically used for their residential snow removal equipment....such as a snow blower. If someone is using the brand name Snow Joe for the grass shears, they are using the brand name incorrectly or are just confused. I have 2 pairs of the sun joe shears and they work great. I did need to replace the blades though, but they are available on the Sun Joe site.
Question:	It is possible to run the trimmer without holding 2 buttons? I'm returning the Black&Decker i purchased today because its too difficult to maneuver
Answer:	With this one you need to push one button (bottom one) while sliding the other button (top one) to get it going. That's a safety measure so you don't accidentally turn it on by mistake. But after it's started you no longer need to hold the slide top button, you can just hold the bottom button in to keep it going. Once you let go of the bottom button it turns off, and would need both buttons to be initiated to get started again.
