Answer:	Good question. Yes, the middle legs are meant to be shorter than the outer legs. The center legs are there to keep the grate from sagging in the middle over time. If they were longer than the outer legs, the grate would rock from side to side. However, if they are sightly short they still serve their purpose: as soon as the grate starts to sag they will touch the ground and stop the process.
