Question:	I have had several wireless rain gauges and they only seem to work for a year or so. Does anyone have it for say 3 years and have it still working
Answer:	My second unit is was purchased in 2017. It has worked properly the entire time. I just moved and will be buying another very soon. I'm replacing the rain gauge because if it sits in the direct sun for a significant portion of the day, the plastic housing gets brittle. The tabs on mine broke long ago and it is now held together with tape. Functional but not pretty. The unit does require some maintenance. I've found that in the spring and fall, "tree trash" can collect in the cup and block the inlet. I've also have to clear the spiders out from time to time. I highly recommend this product. So much so, i will be buying #3 in the near future.
Question:	Can I make it empty using wireless from inside? To clear a little bit of rain and start fresh
Answer:	It dumps automatically, there is no remote control. That would be useless anyway. You can reset any of the recorded readings from the remote monitor. It can record daily rainfall, event (multiple days of continuous rain), weekly, monthly and annual. What else could yo possible want in a rain gage.
Question:	Does this need to be mounted, or can it just sit on the ground
Answer:	I guess it can be, however, for safety of the gage it should be mounted, for mine I use a 2x4x8 , I cut about ten inches off, drove the 2x4x8 in the ground then nailed the 10inch piece on the top ( as in a T shape). I then mounted the gage ontop. This is very secure and easy. Once mounted the battery can be change without having to unmount the gage. Note, mineis about 30ft fom the receiver insidean works fine. Answer:	i'm having the same problem. we had over an inch of rain over the weekend and it read "00.0". i'm going to try changing the battery. if that don't work i'm going too contact amazon. sorry, i can't help you.

Answer:	I simply stick mine in the ground. But if you have appropriate tools (drill and bit and get the right screws) it could be successfully mounted on a metal fence or railing. It would be secure. You would have to decide if it was easy or too complicated to do.

Answer:	Screws are not included.

Answer:	Two screws in the fence mount the gauge. There are slotted holes on the gauge that allow you to simply slip it off the mounting screws to empty the water. Then slip back in place. Easy to use and to mount.
Question:	Will it break when water freezes inside the gauge
Answer:	It does now! I have been ordering this gauge since 2006. It was made in America then. The acrylic was so heavy when made in America it would not break, the expanding ice simply moved up in the column. As soon as the made in China move came the gauge wall thickness was literally cut in half. I know because I very carefully measured it. Would love to find a thick one once again.

Answer:	Yes, the bottom of the rain cup detaches, allowing you to screw the bottom to a deck railing or other level surface. You also install the batteries in the bottom section while the top is detached.

Answer:	no batteries, takes 3 AAA's in base. I like the system, but when the batteries for a remote die, you have to restart the base station (pull a battery) for it to start receiving data from the remote. All the saved rain data is lost. That is the only problem I have had with the unit that I have. Also be sure that the rain detector is level in all directions, more accurate that way.

Whether you're an agriculturalist, a professional meteorologist or a weather hobbyist, building your own weather station can be a really rewarding project. When you're measuring weather, however, you need some pretty specialized sensors. This kit represents the three core components of weather measurement: wind speed, wind direction and rainfall.

None of the sensors in this kit contain active electronics, instead they use sealed magnetic reed switches and magnets so you'll need to source a voltage to take any measurements. The positive side of this is that the sensors are easy to interpret:

The rain gauge is a self-emptying bucket-type rain gauge which activates a momentary button closure for each 0.011" of rain that are collected. The anemometer (wind speed meter) encodes the wind speed by simply closing a switch which each rotation. A wind speed of 1.492 MPH produces a switch closure once per second. Finally, the wind vane reports wind direction as a voltage which is produced by the combination of resistors inside the sensor. The vane’s magnet may close two switches at once, allowing up to 16 different positions to be indicated.

All of the included sensors are supplied with RJ11 terminated cables, for information on the pin-out of the cable, check out the images.

Answer:	I have a pest control business, some states its illegal to kill voles. Another problem with poisoning them is if they die above ground birds of prey (eagles, owls, hawks also cats ect) can eat them and die and there is big fines associated with the secondary kill. What I do is use a cheap bait stations with a mouse trap in them with peanut butter on the trigger, with this method I control them on a 25 acre municipal airport (grass runways) the bait stations are cheap plastic (couple dollars each) I use a large nail pushed threw the bottom of plastic bait station set the mouse trap block the back hole so they have to enter the trigger side, snap the lid on and if you put out a bunch of them you will control them quickly. FYI spring is the time to get them under control. A female vole can have over a hundred babies by the fall. Good luck!

Answer:	I have the item in question and had no problems. If you are not getting data, you might try moving the display to different locations. Mine is about 25 feet from the instrument. Answer:	Probably a good idea as long as there are no overhead obstructions. One problem I have encountered is it doesn’t take much to block the input. A small seed can do it.

Question:	Can i use 2 separate display consoles with the ambient weather ws-2902? i'd like to see readings in 2 different areas of the house
Answer:	I have two display consoles and it works great. One upstairs and one on ground floor. I can see both on-line and on phone via app. I set alerts in case HVAC issues, which is great benefit as well. I ordered WS-2902A-CONSOLE-KIT which is what you need.
Question:	Can it only be line of sight
Answer:	Wireless devices transmit a radio frequency (RF) signal, generally in the 400 – 900 MHz range. The manufacturer will rate the maximum transmission distance as line of sight. However, the signal will transmit through walls and other obstructions. The following is a table of reception loss vs. the transmission medium. Each “wall” or obstruction decreases the transmission range by the factor shown below. Medium RF Signal Strength Reduction Glass (untreated) 5-15% Plastics 10-15% Wood 10-40% Brick 10-40% Concrete 40-80% Metal 90-100% RF will not transmit through metal barriers. If you have aluminum siding or a metal roof, it is unlikely the RF signal will transmit through this barrier. RF will not transmit through earth. For example, if the receiver is placed in the basement, and the earth or ground is obstructing the line of sight transmission, it will not receive the signal. Interference can be an issue. In general, wireless internet, phones, security systems and other low power devices have little interference effect. Ham Radio and other high power applications may lose data when transmitting. Helpful Hint: Wireless phones transmit at similar frequencies and power levels as wireless weather devices. If you have a wireless phone (not a cell phone), place the receiver where you would place the weather station receiver and attempt to use the phone where you would place the transmitter. If you can not use the wireless phone, it is unlikely the weather station will work either.
Question:	Is the outdoor sensor "hi quality"? I have had 2 Acurite outdoor sensors electronics fail in a 1 Yr. I am a full time Rv'r / camp in any weather
Answer:	My Accuwrong failed in the 13th month and support from Accurite was horrible at best. I had an Amibeint for over 10 years but the ws 2902 is not working, they sent me 3 replacement units all with the same issue, NOT TRANSMITTING.
Question:	What differentiates this from higher priced options like the ws-1002-wifi? Software connectivity doesn't matter to me. Are the sensors lower quality
Answer:	No, they are of equal quality. The console on the WS-1002-WiFi is much nicer with multiple screens and TFT display. This is LCD with color film. The WS-2902 is a very capable unit.

Question:	The rain gauge has not worked since I purchased this unit. It has been reset and followed instructions several times. Can you help solve this issue
Answer:	Hello, We would be happy to assist you with your unit! Please make sure that you are using standard alkaline batteries from a high-quality brand in all units, then perform the following reset. Please follow the steps carefully as the order is crucial to the success of the reset. Hard Reset: 1. Bring all units together and power down by removing all batteries from each and/or removing the power cord. 2. Change the A-B-C switch on all units to a new, matching channel. 3. Reinstall the batteries in the outdoor sensors. 4. Reinstall batteries and/or power cord into the display unit. 5. Let the units sit within a couple of feet of each other for approximately 5 minutes or until you see a solid sensor signal. Answer:	Hello LK NorthStar, Yes, the alarms can be turned off on this model. The alarms are programmable. Each selectable weather category features an alarm option. When an alarm sounds, the display emits audible beeping and flashes the affected category, its alarm settings, and any other relevant data. Alarms can be customized to alert you when your programmed value is reached. Question:	Replacing batteries on a roof-mounted unit is a pain. I have power there, so can it be modified easily
Answer:	You can convert "anything" battery powered to a AC converted application. Just match your voltage and amperage and seal the hole wire comes through. Easy. Just find a wall wart to match, solder additional lead wires, as required for length. Heat shrink the soldered connection. Given the 4 AA required, and I don't have this unit, my guess is something 5-6 volts with about 800 -1000 mA would work, just check the stats on it.
Question:	I know the manual says batteries in the display are for backup only, but does anyone know about how long it can survive on batteries
Answer:	I bought mine in 2016 & just had to change the batteries today 2/28/2020
Question:	What is the maximum distance between the outside unit and the display? Does the sensor need to be in the shade
Answer:	The distance is 330 ft. However be careful where you place the display from the station. Walls and other things can weaken the signal. It depends on what your house is made of. My house is primarily wood. The signal has no problem reaching the other end of my house (about 150 ft I believe). Also don't place the display near computers or radios or other electronic devices. It can cause interference with your station. Now the outside station it self is does not need shading. I actually recommend you place the station as high as possible (like on a pole on your roof, if you can't, place it no lower than 5ft-6ft from the ground) This ensures that your wind readings are accurate. The thermometer and hydrometer sensors are in the sensor and a internal fan circulates air past the sensors from outside, allowing the temperature readings to stay normal in the sun. Also make sure that station is in a wide open area with nothing around the sensor that could block the wind reaching the station. Typically I would say 50 ft from obstacles but I'm not sure how close. A lot of writing a know but hope this helps you!
Question:	Is this model a true color display, unlike the 01036's monochrome display with a color template
Answer:	The display looks as it is shown in the picture. It is a color transparent overlay that the data is displayed on. It is bright and easy to read.

Question:	Does the rain gauge need to be brought in during the winter to keep it from freezing and breaking? Has anyone run into this problem
Answer:	i have found that this product never lasts more then a year, no matter what you do.... i love the product, will probably buy it again, but after having had numerous (4 maybe?) they all break in 1-2 seasons..... and here in the pacific northwest, sometimes it's snow, sometimes it's rain... if you can't leave it outside in the weather why have a weather system? but even so.... it has not always frozen, we've had winters where it hasn't snowed at all and it still broke....
Question:	Can this be left out in freezing weather and snow
Answer:	Hi Margaret: although we usually get 7-10 days of below-freezing nights here in my location, we get no snow. Sorry I can't be of more help. Unless you want to measure the snow as it melts, the unit is easy to move. I keep my lashed to a cinder block, but even so, I can move it if need be. Perhaps a little wooden square could be made for it, like a tissue box holder, but with an opening on top the same size as the rain collector? Then the unit would be safe while still being able to collect snow accumulation. Good luck!
Question:	Is the indoor module as cumbersome and anti-intuitive to work as the older model? God forbid I ever lose the manual
Answer:	i sit the manual under the module. that way i can't misplace it.. its a small manual. but i would think you should keep it close by if you purchase this item. I've had ours since christmas and we use the manual to reset the total rain gauge.
