User questions & answers
Question: | Does this device interface with IFTTT, as some of the other Ambient Weather devices do |
Answer: | The 2000 can monitor up to 8 external temp/humidity sensors (one of these is dedicated to indoor Temp/Hum + barometric pressure) whereas the 2902A can only monitor one. Since the sensor cluster is the same for three different systems, you can use the display from WS-1900 (like WS-2902A only no WiFi), WS-2902A, or WS-2000. |
Question: | What is the length of the power cord |
Answer: | It depends on the part but if the rain gauge fails, the entire sensor array needs replacing. The sensor array is relatively less expensive. Item WS-2902-ARRAY, currently $53.99 + shipping (subject to change). |
Question: | Does it use rechargable batteries in transmitter (i.e. 1.3V)? I considering replacing a cheaper unit because of terrible battery life in transmitter |
Answer: | According to the specs I saw at https://weatherstationdepot.com/ws-2902-osprey-review/ the wind speed is averaged over 16 seconds and the wind gust is sampled every second. But is this the average wind gust over the 16 seconds or is it the maximum wind gust over the 16-second period? |
Question: | Is there a way to stop scrolling between scensors? I have only one scensor and would like it to remain on view all the time |
Answer: | Yes, but another way to go is to get a cheap tablet and use either a weather app with your data, like weather underground, or a web browser to your data on weather underground or ambient weather. I got a 10" tablet off Walmart's website for $50 and works great next to my bed for viewing my weather info. |

Special Notes and Caveats
- The backlight requires AC power to operate. The batteries are intended for back-up power only. The backlight will remain on for 5 seconds when on back up battery power only. The backlight will stay on if you use the AC adapter.
- AC adapter 110V/60 Hz. Intended for use in North America.
- The Radio Controlled Time (RCC) only supports the contiguous 48 US States and Hawaii. Does not support Alaska.
- The wireless signal will not penetrate solid metal or earth.
- Transmission range: up to 300 feet open air (ideal conditions), 100 feet for most applications.
- Energizer LiIon e2 batteries recommend for long life and cold weather (less than 10 degF).
- The forecast icon is based on the rate of change of barometric pressure.
The rate of change of barometric pressure is a trend and may be one of several tools to predict weather 24 to 48 hours in advance.
In general, if the rate of change of pressure increases, the weather is improving (sunny). If the rate of change of pressure decreases, the weather is degrading (cloudy or rainy). If the rate of change is relatively steady, it will read partly cloudy or partly sunny (depending on the type of weather station).
The reason the current conditions do not match the forecast icon is because it is a prediction 24-48 hours in advance. In most locations, this prediction is only 70% accurate and it is a good idea to consult the National Weather Service for more accurate weather forecasts. In some locations, this prediction may be less or more accurate.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a second indoor unit that could be used with a single remote sensor would buying two if this work with a single remote |
Answer: | The projection displays the temperature from the sensor shown on the console. If you have the console cycling through all the temperature sensors, the projection display cycles through all the sensors. Be aware that if you have 2 sensors connected, the null signal (---.-) also cycles through the display. |
Question: | The outdoor temperature stops displaying. What could be the problem and how to fix it? Everything else is working fine. Thank you |
Answer: | Here is the link: https://p10.secure.hostingprod.com/@site.ambientweatherstore.com/ssl/Manuals/ws8365.pdf |
Question: | Where can one get a hold of a second remote sensor |
Answer: | The RC-8365 works with up to three total remote temp/humidity sensors. Model TX-8300. |
Question: | My car is having an issue with the cabin pressure &I'm trying to prove this to the dealer. Will the barometer measure the air pressure in the car |
Answer: | Both displays are on all the time. In the dark, the clock face can't be easily discerned, but the projection is very visible; in daylight the projection can't be discerned (too much ambient light for contrast) but the clock face provides information. The exception is that if the power is out, the projection shuts down to save battery life. If you wake up at night and there is no projection on the ceiling, you almost certainly have a power outage. |

Question: | I have a number of the appropriate temp transmitters. Is there a console only purchase option for this model |
Answer: | The outdoor sensor comes with the weather station. The second sensor is built into the weather station and monitors indoor temp and RH. If you need an additional sensor, contact the manufacturer. |
Question: | Does the indoor unit come with a cord for plugging into outlet |
Answer: | This weather station does not check wind speed. |
Question: | If I buy 2 units, can I use just 1 outdoor transmitter for both indoor units |
Answer: | The features mentioned in the description does not list this weather station as being WIFI enabled for an app. My weather station is also not WIFI enabled. |
Question: | Is the dew point and barometric info sourced from the wireless sensor or the indoor only or both |
Answer: | Martha, Mine always resets itself after I install new batteries. You must put new batteries in the outside temperature sensor first and then in the base unit. Then after about 10 to 15 minutes the time would set. Sometimes I would have to change the Time Zone setting with the buttons on the back. Hope that helps. Jeff |

Add food coloring to customize the water barometer color (not included). Distilled water is recommended but not required (not included, water must be added to the barometer).
- The Galileo thermometer consists of a sealed glass tube that is filled with liquid (paraffin oil) and several floating bubbles. The bubbles are glass spheres filled with a colored liquid mixture.
- Attached to each bubble is a little metal tag that indicates a temperature. These metal tags are calibrated counterweights. The weight of each tag is slightly different from the others. Since the bubbles are all hand-blown glass, they aren't exactly the same size and shape.
- The bubbles are calibrated by adding a certain amount of fluid to them so that they have the exact same density. So, after the weighted tags are attached to the bubbles, each differs very slightly in density (the ratio of mass to volume) from the other bubbles, and the density of all of them is very close to the density of the surrounding liquid.
- As the temperature of the air outside the thermometer changes, so does the temperature of the liquid surrounding the bubbles. As the temperature of the liquid changes, it either expands or contracts, thereby changing its density. So, at any given density, some of the bubbles will float and others will sink. The bubble that sinks the most indicates the approximate current temperature.
- A narrow spout connects to the body below the liquid level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere. When the air pressure is lower than it was at the time the body was sealed, the water level in the spout will rise above the water level in the body and when the air pressure is higher, the water level in the spout will drop below the water level in the body.
User questions & answers
Question: | My Galileo thermometer fell over and broke. I am interested in getting a replacement for just this piece of the set. Which one will fit with the set |
Answer: | The Galileo website is very helpful when dealing with replacements. |
Question: | How do you get the tube into the barometer? I can only get it in part way before it gets stuck |
Answer: | It is best to wet the outer tube to reduce the friction. Next, push the tube in and out of the spout making small progress each time. Eventually it will make its way into the vessel but it does take some time and patience. I hope this helps. |
Question: | The storm glass will not fit into the cut out hole in the board. The hole is too small for the storm glass. Please advise. Thank you |
Answer: | Mine was snug too when I first got it and there are times when it isn't. My guess is there was too much humidity there is in the air. You can give it a couple days and see if it shrinks down or try and take some sand paper and open the cut out a little. |
Question: | How deep is the wooden base? I am thinking about putting this on a ledge that is only 4" deep and am not sure if it will fit |
Answer: | The base measures 10.5 in by 4.75 in. Also the countersinks for the thermometer and barometer are 3/16in deep. |
User questions & answers
Question: | Can you turn off the color changing feature |
Answer: | I didn't know it had a color changing feature. Mine is red all the time |
Question: | Can the backlight be turned off |
Answer: | Yes. There is a switch on the back. Since it is a reverse backlight, the screen goes completely dark. |
Question: | Does the projection light change colors as well |
Answer: | No. For the projection you can rotate and focus. It stays red. The backlight you can set on manual color or changing with temperature. |
Question: | Can it project the outside temperature instead of the inside temperature |
Answer: | It projects both. It alternates between Time/Indoor Temperature and Time/Outdoor Temperature once every few seconds. There are no buttons to push. It does this automatically. |

Product description
Tide, water temperature, light level and moon phase can affect fishing success. Barometric pressure also has a major influence on fish behavior.
The Ambient Weather Fishing Barometer displays ranges of pressure that are great (green), good (blue) and poor (orange) for fishing conditions with the color coded scale.
A fish senses pressure changes through its air bladder. Fish that have small air bladders, such as kings, Spanish mackerel, wahoo and dolphin, aren't as affected by barometric changes as those with large bladders, such as trout, redfish, tarpon, grouper and snapper.
When their bladders expand, fish become uncomfortable. They relieve their discomfort by moving lower in the water column or by absorbing extra gas in their bladders.
Because of the anatomical and physiological stresses exerted on them, they're not worried about eating. They're more concerned with trying to find a depth where they can stabilize their bladder pressure and feel good. The barometer must be calibrated to your local conditions.
To compare pressure conditions from one location to another, meteorologists correct the measured pressure (referred to as absolute pressure) to sea-level conditions. Because the air pressure decreases as you rise in altitude, the sea-level corrected pressure (the pressure your location would be at if located at sea-level) is higher than your measured pressure if you live above sea-level and lower than your measured pressure if you live below sea-level. To correct the relative pressure, consult your local news source.
Note: Barometer only operates to 3,000'. Do not order this item if you live at or above 3,000'. Avg barometric pressure is 29.92 around the world. Typically, 29.50 to 30.50 is the range. Anything lower is a tropical depression or hurricane. Your barometer may not move more than 1-1.25 inHg per day (+/- 0.5-0.625 inHg).
- Measures 2.5 x 1 inch
- Barometer range in hPa: 960-1060
- Barometer range in inHg: 28.4 to 31.3
- Color coded pressure ranges for optimal fishing conditions
- Brass ring allows you to attach the barometer wherever you may need it
- Allows you to monitor your home and backyard weather conditions with high-definition reverse PMVA color display and Feels Like forecast
- Wireless sensor array and rain gauge measures wind speed/direction, temperature, humidity, UV and solar radiation; Indoor thermo-hygrometer-barometer

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i use 2 separate display consoles with the ambient weather ws-2902? i'd like to see readings in 2 different areas of the house |
Answer: | I have two display consoles and it works great. One upstairs and one on ground floor. I can see both on-line and on phone via app. I set alerts in case HVAC issues, which is great benefit as well. I ordered WS-2902A-CONSOLE-KIT which is what you need. |
Question: | Can it only be line of sight |
Answer: | Wireless devices transmit a radio frequency (RF) signal, generally in the 400 – 900 MHz range. The manufacturer will rate the maximum transmission distance as line of sight. However, the signal will transmit through walls and other obstructions. The following is a table of reception loss vs. the transmission medium. Each “wall” or obstruction decreases the transmission range by the factor shown below. Medium RF Signal Strength Reduction Glass (untreated) 5-15% Plastics 10-15% Wood 10-40% Brick 10-40% Concrete 40-80% Metal 90-100% RF will not transmit through metal barriers. If you have aluminum siding or a metal roof, it is unlikely the RF signal will transmit through this barrier. RF will not transmit through earth. For example, if the receiver is placed in the basement, and the earth or ground is obstructing the line of sight transmission, it will not receive the signal. Interference can be an issue. In general, wireless internet, phones, security systems and other low power devices have little interference effect. Ham Radio and other high power applications may lose data when transmitting. Helpful Hint: Wireless phones transmit at similar frequencies and power levels as wireless weather devices. If you have a wireless phone (not a cell phone), place the receiver where you would place the weather station receiver and attempt to use the phone where you would place the transmitter. If you can not use the wireless phone, it is unlikely the weather station will work either. |
Question: | Is the outdoor sensor "hi quality"? I have had 2 Acurite outdoor sensors electronics fail in a 1 Yr. I am a full time Rv'r / camp in any weather |
Answer: | My Accuwrong failed in the 13th month and support from Accurite was horrible at best. I had an Amibeint for over 10 years but the ws 2902 is not working, they sent me 3 replacement units all with the same issue, NOT TRANSMITTING. |
Question: | What differentiates this from higher priced options like the ws-1002-wifi? Software connectivity doesn't matter to me. Are the sensors lower quality |
Answer: | No, they are of equal quality. The console on the WS-1002-WiFi is much nicer with multiple screens and TFT display. This is LCD with color film. The WS-2902 is a very capable unit. |

Product description
This beautiful conversation piece combines two ancient technologies - the Admiral Fitzroy Storm Glass and the Galileo Thermometer.
The Admiral Fitzroy Storm Glass:
How this storm glass really works is a mystery, but it is believed that electromagnetic changes in weather patterns activate crystals inside (sealed-glass chamber fills with crystals when air pressure decreases). Famed meteorologist Admiral Fitzroy used a storm glass on a historic voyage (1831-1836) with Charles Darwin
A storm glass works on the premise that temperature and pressure affect solubility, sometimes resulting in clear liquid; other times causing precipitants to form. However, the method by which this works is not fully understood. Although it is well-established that temperature affects solubility, some studies have simultaneously observed several different storm glasses forming similar crystal patterns at different temperatures. In addition, sealed glasses are not exposed to atmospheric pressure changes and do not react to the pressure variations associated with weather systems.
The Galileo Thermometer:
The Galileo thermometer consists of a sealed glass tube that is filled with water and several floating bubbles. The bubbles are glass spheres filled with a colored liquid mixture.
Attached to each bubble is a little metal tag that indicates a temperature. These metal tags are calibrated counterweights. The weight of each tag is slightly different from the others. Since the bubbles are all hand-blown glass, they aren't exactly the same size and shape.
The bubbles are calibrated by adding a certain amount of fluid to them so that they have the exact same density. So, after the weighted tags are attached to the bubbles, each differs very slightly in density (the ratio of mass to volume) from the other bubbles, and the density of all of them is very close to the density of the surrounding water.
- During the historic voyage, FitzRoy carefully documented how the storm glass would predict the weather:
- Dimensions: Approximately 8" tall
- Galileo Thermometer: Number of glass balls: 5, Glass Galileo thermometer range: 64ºF – 80ºF, Temperature is determined by lowest floating bulb
User questions & answers
Question: | Mine reads 64 by bubble when it is close to 76... Anyone else have this big of difference |
Answer: | It is possible the bubble is damaged or broken and will not rise. |
Question: | Are the glass balls colored |
Answer: | No, clear glass colored liquid inside balls, navy blue |
Question: | i've seen other Galileo Thermometers and the glass balls are colored. are these one color |
Answer: | They're all the same dark blue/blackish colored. |
Question: | How is the product described as being used by Fitzroy and Darwin in 1750, when Fitzroy was born in 1805 and Darwin was born in |
Answer: | Hi Kaiser,I am very sorry about this error. I have corrected in the listing. The historic HMS Beagle carried the storm glass on the second voyage (1831-1836).They have been used since 1750, but named after the famous sailor and meteorologist, Admiral Fitzroy. Fitzroy did not invent the device.Thank you for bringing this to our attention.Regards,Ed |
