The most useful application of the C555 Concrete Moisture Meter is to support the effective placement of Rapid RH L6 Smart Sensors according to the processes outlined in ASTM F2659. There are more uses for the C555 that don't require the strict oversight of ASTM or other established regulations. The C555 is a qualitative measuring device so other applications can benefit from comparative moisture data collection of concrete or similar materials. Utilizing an abrasion-resistant sensor pad to emit an electronic signal, therefore, the surface you are measuring MUST be smooth enough to assure complete contact with the entire surface of the sensor pad. Scanning raised areas or scanning materials that do not contact the entire surface of the sensor pad may result in misleading or inaccurate readings. Consider using the C555 in these applications:

Proper Use and Best Practices

The C555 sensor pad that emits the electromagnetic signal measures 2.0-inches (50mm) wide by 2.5-inches (63mm) long. This entire surface should be fully contacted with the material you are scanning. Bumps, ridges, and other raised areas will disrupt full sensor pad contact and will cause the C555 to give inaccurate or potentially misleading data. You may find it useful to use rough grit sandpaper or another abrasive grinding system to create smooth areas of concrete to scan with the C555 for the most accurate readings. In the Standard Measurement mode, the C555 measures moisture within a 1% to 6.9% moisture reading range. The C555 also features a Relative Measurement mode which will give you a comparative indication of moisture in other materials than concrete with a numerical scale from 1 to 100. However, all measured surfaces should be smooth to ensure the most accurate readings.

Answer:	As far as i can tell the probes are about 3/8 long. The are metal, and have a plastic cover to protect them and you when not in use. The cap can also be flipped over once taken off, to help check device itself, for calibration. They are replaceable. They actually come with an extra set of pins (probes). Hope this helps.

Answer:	Nathan, Thanks for the question. The Moisture Range on this Hand Held meter for CORN is 10 - 40%. However, the clear plastic funnel which is provided to assist with consistent filling of the test cell, will not work well on corn over say 25 - 30%. This is due to the lack of flowability in the higher moisture content. I would suggest that you still fill the funnel, but pour the sample back out the large end at just 1 - 2" above the test cell. EVERY TIME and at the same Rate. With this consistency, you would have much greater repeatability between different tests. But the true benefit is the ability to read the moisture content of material and to have all your customized readings on the screen at all times, including relative humidity, ambient air, etc. I have the 176 which does probe testing and also has a pad on the back of the unit, this pad lets you pull a reading without destructive measures (awesome for general walk arounds)! Can't remember what the other models offered, but I am happy with the 176. Great for mold and home inspections. I do also have an additional flir thermal imager. I definitely recommend one with MSX technology. The difference is unreal! Good Luck.

Answer:	I would get the MR176 because the Thermal Imager may pick up the steam and the change in temperature, not just look for moisture.

Answer:	The meter is designed to test moisture of drywall, wood and masonry. It takes the reading at 3/4 deep. I've used on carpet over masonry, but not sure if it would work on carpet over steel. I'm thinking you will get a false reading.
