User questions & answers

Question: What is the thickness measurement of the outdoor sensor? I live in an apartment and must place it between a window and a screen
Answer: Here are the measurements: 3/4" (at 'hanger' end) to 5/8" thick (main body of sensor). it is 5" high and 1.5' wide. It would certainly fit between the window and the screen; however, my husband says you may not get a true temperature reading because it would pick up the heat from the window even though it is outside. Can you put it on the window sill on the outside of the screen? That is where I have ours and it works fine. Has not fallen off our brick window sill even though it is slightly slanted. Hope this helps....
Question: Is the remote sensor included or i need to get one
Answer: The sensor is outdoors and the unit itself is inside - they communicate via radio/wifi signals. You do not need to purchase anything additional.
Question: is it accurate
Answer: Hi Linda. Mine appears to be within 1°F. Plenty good enough to monitor the weather. As a standard, I have a 14" Fisher mercury in glass laboratory thermometer accurate to 1/4°F, which I trust. I use two display stations (upstairs and downstairs) running off one outdoor transmitter. They both read exactly the same at all times and are now about 2 years old. Hope this is helpful. Don
Question: does it work in very cold weather, negative degrees
Answer: We live in Texas. It was fine for 4 years until our first cold front came in 2 weeks ago. We went down to 60 F when the sensor stopped working. I ordered a new sensor with amazon. That one stopped working after 3 days when the next cold front came in at 55 F. What a terrible waste of money. I'll be calling La Crosse on Monday.

User questions & answers

Question: Why doesn’t outside temp register? Inside temp is working I also put in brand new batteries
Answer: Check that your batteries are charged to 1.5. If you don't have a way (voltage meter) to check, try brand new batteries that are new off the store shelf. For the sync-up process, the batteries must be 1.5 or better. It's the #1 problem we see.
Question: Hello. . . i love this weather station but the aa batteries in my remote die very quickly. what batteries work bet for you
Answer: All outdoor sensors should use Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries. Alkalines will freeze, rechargables start at a max of 1.4 v and drop to 1.2 v fairly quickly and do not like extreme cold. They do not work in Iowa winter. All my external sensors use AA Ultimate Lithiums and last the entire winter, even at -15 below zero F. I change them out every Fall.
Question: Looking to mount this unit flat on a wall. Wtith power cord attached, would this unit sit flush against the wall
Answer: Yes, it can be wall mounted and sit flush against the wall even with the cord attached.
Question: Is it necessary to buy the la crosse technology tx141th-bv2 wireless outdoor thermo-hygrometer $19.95 to make the wireless forecast station wireless
Answer: If I may say, you might want to reconsider a product from LaCrosse. I have had an s85814 weather station for about 3 years and it currently serves as the night light in my bedroom. It never worked and LaCrosse wasn't much help. The temperature outside was always off by close to 20 degrees. Don't do it, you'll regret it!

Answer: It has a mounting hole notched in the back of the housing
Question: How accurate is this thermometer? Thanks
Answer: As thermometers go, they are a simple device that, when produced, are accurate to +/- 1 degree. My automobile thermometer is nearly always identical to the LaCrosse round thermometer.
Question: Is there any way to calibrate this? Have it on my patioand it is at least 10 degrees off
Answer: Mine was also 10 degrees off. I used a small screwdriver (for a sewing machine) to turn the tiny brass screw in the center coil on the back of thermometer to adjust to correct temp. Hope this helps you.

User questions & answers

Question: What are the power requirements on the DC side? I'd like to use this in an RV
Answer: Tin.
Question: Can you use 2 sensors, one outside for weather and one inside fymold
Answer: As of 2012, many mercury-in-glass thermometers are used in meteorology; however, they are becoming increasingly rare for other uses, as many countries banned them for medical use due to the toxicity of mercury. Some manufacturers use galinstan, a liquid alloy of gallium, indium, and tin, as a replacement for mercury. The typical "fever thermometer" contains between 0.5 and 0.3 g (0.28 and 0.17 drachms) of elemental mercury.45 Swallowing this amount of mercury would, it is said, pose little danger but the inhaling of the vapour could lead to health problems. I don't know for a fact when the Winchester thermometer was made.

It is also suitable for watching and loving for babies and the elderly and more. If you have any other questions with our video baby monitor, please feel free to contact us. Best regards, BeautyFan
Question: Does this unity "308-1414mb-int", allow us to see results on our phone using an app

User questions & answers

Question: I live in a colder climate. How does this work for below zero temps
Answer: I purchased it as a gift for my uncle. He lives in Wisconsin (I'm assuming this would count as a colder climate.. :D )He said it is working well! It's been installed for about a month.
Question: How does this unit compare in accuracy to known temperatures from other sources
Answer: I have one for my front yard and the weather station for my backyard. I have changed the sensors around to check the temps and they were within .2° Fahrenheit accuracy. There can be as much as 3° to 5°F difference from the front yard to the backyard. The backyard is on a lake with a big oak tree. The front yard is a street and a driveway with small trees. Both are placed in the shade.
Question: This has an outdoor sensor. Is another sensor required for indoor
Answer: The indoor unit has sensor built in. No additional sensor is required.
Question: What type of batteries and how many for each? How often do you have to change the batteries
Answer: Two AA's in the sensor and two AAA's in the display. Just purchased item so too soon for me to assess battery life.

User questions & answers

Question: Can the clock itself be mounted outdoors (patio, deck etc
Answer: So long as it is not exposed to rain. Direct sunlight could affect any electronics. And you would have the 'outdoor ' sensor which you could use indoors if you wanted to. Depending upon your climate extremes of heat or cold eventually affect all electronics. Should work with those caveats.
Question: Does clock include outdoor seperate sensor
Answer: yes it does include outdoor sensor
Question: Does it light up in a dark room
Answer: This unit has big bold text and numbers, it does not light up at night. very legible in daytime.
Question: does it make noise for each second as one person commented? maybe that is what the beep on/off setting is for
Answer: Mine doesn't but I'm almost positive I saw the option to have the beep on or off. After all, there's an alarm built in so I would think as long as they have a beep alarm, might as well make it an option for seconds as well.

Question: Does it support ifttt or alexa
Answer: No, it does not support IFTT or Alexa.
Question: What are the dimensions of the display
Answer: about 3 by 3 inches
Question: How does a “completely sealed” unit detect humidity
Answer: Humidity is actually pressure checked and often verified against dew point calculations. Divide actual vapor pressure by saturation vapor pressure and multiply by 100 to obtain a percentage using the formula Relative Humidity (percentage) = actual vapor pressure/saturated vapor pressure x100. The resulting number indicates relative humidity.
