Answer:	All the necessary notes are in the chimes. It's by pure chance that they may hit the notes in the right order - or an act of God. My wife believes in the latter and seems to assemble the correct order in her mind when hearing the random notes. I guess if you were musically inclined you would be able to strike the chimes manually and play the tune. This may not sound like a serious answer, but my wife thinks it is.

Answer:	Honestly, I bought these as a gift so I haven't seen them in the wind, but the tubes didn't seem very thick and the strings were easy to tangle so in strong winds I don't feel they would be very durable.
