Answer:	I have had my feeder up for a week now and I have not had one bird fly to it, or even come near it. I too have a regular feeder about 5 ft away and I think they use it instead. I'm convinced that this feeder is really good only if you don't have anywhere else for the birds to eat.

Answer:	Forget about it if you have squirrels. I bought it figuring they could not jump on to the curved sides. They can't. However, the two suction cups barely hold the feeder to the window. As soon as a squirrel jumps on it the feeder falls to the ground and the squirrel feasts!
Question:	Do the birds leave much of a mess around when using this feeder
Answer:	Yes, you can have a mess. Birds drop seeds and hulls drop on the ground around the feeder (2nd floor balcony in my case). Smaller birds sometimes hop inside and scratch around looking for the seed they want. This will push smaller seeds and hulls out the front opening or between the feeder and glass. If the feeder is full of birds (2 or 3), other birds wait around elsewhere on our balcony waiting their turn... pooping on the patio table and chairs, etc.. I came here to see if anyone had suggestions on how to keep the mess down :)

Answer:	The Jewel Box Window Feeder works well! We have 3 fancier glass hummingbird stations around our house and this little plastic one seems to see the most action. It has too suction cups and a nice wraparound perch. It falls far less often than other suction cup window mounts I've tried. I have recently replaced the small suction cups with larger super strong suction cups (using small screws) and that helps our a lot. Answer:	I do not have bee guards on my feeder but I don't remember every having bee issues with this feeder, I have had issues in the past with other feeders. I have had more problems with ants and have put oil on the red portion of the feeder just be careful not to get any on the flowers. This year I haven't had any issues with bees or ants. You may have to clean the window area where you put the feeder because sometimes the juice spills and the sweetness can attract bees and ants. Hope this helps.

Answer:	The "mirror" is a clingy sheet that you stick on the inside of your window. Instructions say it doesn't matter which side you stick on to the window so I have no idea how that works as being 'one-way mirror". It is very disappointing that this was not mentioned in the details as this item is advertised as a a "One-Way Mirror Bird Feeder". It isn't, it's a see-through bird feeder that you can maybe fix up your window in order to make it difficult for birds to see through into your home.

Question:	How can i keep squirrels out of this
Answer:	Buy spicy bird food! Squirrels hate it and birds love it! Once the squirrels realize it's spicy they stay away.

Answer:	It’s doth very easy to both put it on and take it off the window. The tray is easily removed for refilling
Question:	Does this actually hold 4 cups of food? the tray looks super shallow compared to the one i have from nature's hangout
Answer:	Your question intrigued me. So I emptied my feeder and took a measuring cup, and added fresh seed. Result: the tray fits 2 cups level or 3 if you mound up the seed. You might be able to fit 4 cups when the tray is in the feeder and leverage some of the additional vertical holding surface of the feeder walls. I think it would be impractical, as even with waste-free hulled seeds, the birds leave seed skins and pick through their favorites, leaving seeds they don't like. I find it more practical to just put 1 cup in an empty feeder, and toss the uneaten seeds. Also, one other consideration, if you pile up the seed, after it rains the seed won't dry and it will go bad.
Question:	How do I fold the feeder back up? After unfolding the roof of the feeder, it doesn’t close easily and I don’t want to break it

Question:	Does it deter chipmunks
Answer:	No it does not deter chipmunks but I love this feeder. We placed a small baffle under feeders which solved the chipmunk issue.
Question:	Male cardinals aren't using the perch. They just sit below the feeder eating off the ground. Female Cardinals use it. Any idea why
Answer:	I have the same problem. Even with the optional Cardonal ring, they still won't use it. I think the feeding ports are too small for them to comfortably use. The fool proof way to prevent squirrels from eating your bird seed is to use Safflower seeds. They have all the nutrition of sunflower seeds, all varieties of sang birds love them (including woodpeckers) AND THE SQUIRRELS WILL NOT TOUCH THEM! I wish someone would have told me this before I spent $$$$ over the years trying to find a squirrel proof feeder. You can buy a 50 lb.. bag on Amazon for about $53 with free shipping. That comes out to about $1.06 a pound. Get an inexpensive feeder that cardinals will use and your problems are solved!
Question:	How often will I have to refill this feeder on average if I have a fair number of birds in the area and what cost would that entail
Answer:	Not trying to sound obvious, but it depends on the number and type of birds. My feeders in Houston draw Cardinals, Mockingbirds, Jays and Woodpeckers - hungry birds, plus lots of Sparrows and Carolina threshers. I have to refill the feeder about every 5 days with this crew. My feeder in Brenham also draws lots of birds, but smaller ones, and I only have to refill it every 7-8, sometimes 10 days. In the winter months, it will have to be refilled more often, of course.
Question:	The tension doesn't seem to deter rats...I don't know if this can be adjusted...I feel bad for the birds...but I took the feeder down today
Answer:	I have not had rats try to get the bird seed. I have had it for 3 years, the spring in the tension got loose after too many squirrel attempts. What I found is that the cardinal ring weighed it down and the birds could not get to the seed. The customer care sent me a new spring mechanism and it works great now, ring and all.

How It works?

Openings in the bottom section of the feeder (shroud) align with seed ports, providing birds access to the seed. When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight automatically forces the shroud down, closing the seed ports. Squirrels and large birds are foiled but not harmed in any way.

The Closing Mechanism

Use the feeder with the factory setting before making any adjustments.

To increase the adjustment setting, rotate the transparent cartridge clockwise. The red line will move down from the previous setting. This increases the weight required to close access to the seed.

To decrease the adjustment setting, turn the cartridge counter clockwise. The red line will move up from the previous setting. This decreases the weight required to close access to the seed.

Where to Locate your Plus

You can locate this bird feeder anywhere and be squirrel free. Position it to get great close-up views of your favorite birds. Hang your Squirrel Buster Plus over a window, in a tree, on a deck, a fence, in your garden, on the side of your house, from a rain trough or over sliding doors. Use brackets, extension hooks and tree hooks to hang your feeder at the recommended clearance. Hooks and brackets are available at birding stores, garden centers and hardware supply stores.

Need for Clearance

Remember it’s a squirrel’s weight that triggers the closing mechanism. If a squirrel can reach over from a nearby foothold and avoid placing his weight on the feeder, he can access the birdseed. To overcome this problem, allow for at least 18 in/47 cm of clearance around the feeder. This will force the squirrel to climb onto the feeder and trigger the closing mechanism.
