Answer: Had same problem, not sure if it is color or smell, but birds wouldn't touch it for several weeks. Now no problem. The birds hop right in. Frustrating but they do get used to it and keeps seed off the ground.

If you connect the cords (which lengthen a great deal) to the top of the feeder, the feeder cannot be longer than the cords. If the feeder has a circular feeding bar around the bottom, you can shorten the chords and attach the hoop there.

Answer: The seed catcher is also a "platforn feeder". I do not think square feeder the unit is hanging from is included. Just the wire mesh and 6 hangers. It works very well! No more mess under the feeder.

I find the answer is to flick it repeatedly-the electronic squeaker is powered by a component similar to the thing that charges shakeable flashlights. Answer: Not an easy answer. I use Pine Tree Farms “Nutsie” seed log which weighs 40 ounces; and I use Pine Tree Farms “Fruitberry Nut” seed log which weighs 28 ounces. Even though there is a 12 ounce weight difference, they are the exact same size. I guess the best answer would be that the containers are 7 inches high and measure 4-3/4 inches across the top. I hope this is helpful. The woodpeckers love them.
Question: Does the cage prevent starlings from getting to the log
Answer: Our problem, it seems, is raccoons. We have not actually seen them,they show up at night...... but we don't know what else can climb out on limbs, get the feeder off, and destroy the cage and copper top. Too high in the tree for deer. Too strong for the squirrel (one) that we see. However, the feeder is very nice. I enjoyed the two days we used it. Sorry we cannot use it.

Answer: My first seed log is still being eaten, so can’t answer your question. I wouldn’t think there will be any leftovers as the log is solid seed. The outer cage structure doesn’t prohibit finishing the log. Hope this helps.

Question: What is your experience for the distance (inches) between feeder and seed tray to capture greatest amount of husks
Answer: There is a lot to say on this. The main trick is to keep the tray UNDER the feeder. I live in a windy area. I went to the hardware store and bought a 3 inch round magnet and a 3 inch round steel washer. Put the magnet below and the washer on top. This allows the tray to have some ballast and more or less blow as a set with the feeder. The birds want to land on the tray to eat fallen seed, which is useful, so you have to allow them some head room. Don't want the tray right at the bottom of the feeder. A lot depends on the feeder, it's height, whether birds can shovel disliked seeds out....... The trays are durable and handle rain well. They do not keep all seeds off the ground, or suet bits. I did have a rodent each year and last year had 3 sunflowers grow nearby. But it really reduces the amount that falls. I have rose bushes nearby and the smallest mouse climbed right up those to hop into the tray. So measure and experiment. You may have to go online for the magnets.

Answer: It is the biggest I have found.

Answer: It was my understanding that it was designed to be placed under a feeder to catch seed hulls so the ground (garden in my case) would not become packed with seed litter. It proved ineffective, due probably to being repeatedly tilted by the wind, by birds landing on it to feed on dropped seeds, and by squirrels.It might work as a feeder, but I have no experience with that usage.

Answer: I use sunflower seeds that are coated in hot peppers. The birds cannot taste the hot pepper, and love the seeds. But the squirrels will run away from anything with hot peppers. I have had my birdfeeder up for almost 3 years. A squirrel jumped in it one time. As soon as it discovered the hot pepper it ran away, and no other squirrels have ever tried my birdfeeder. And there are plenty of squirrels in the neighborhood.

Answer: More critical than weight - especially at those lighter weights - are the measurements pf the animal. Can they turn around, lay down, etc. The Medium size is probably bigger than what you need, but the dog will have ample room, feel less "confined". He's not uncomfortable, and likes that he can see more through the mesh than the hard plastic. Not all cats may like that, but mine does.
