Answer:	No, we haven’t had that problem. The squirrels haven’t chewed on the table.

Answer:	You may have to drill another smaller hole in the bottom of the log, because this particular feeder is mainly made for corn cobs. My advice is to look for another brand of feeder, this one is very flimsy.

Question:	Will this feeder work keeping small chipmunks out
Answer:	We have two of these feeders and last night I witnessed several rats waiting to take their turns to eat directly from the feeder perches. Yes I'm talking about large common rats. I was baffled and disappointed to discover the hard way that the rats can get the seed no problem! The rat was hanging upside down off the outside of the feeder with it's head in the feeder hole. We have a squirrel that comes every day to eat the droppings (which is what we thought rats might be doing) but the squirrel must weigh more than rats since it hasn't ever been successful at getting food from the feeder. The bummer about this kind of feeder as well is that you can't hang a seed catcher underneath (the weight of the seed catcher would close the feeder holes) so you can't keep the ground clean (which is the other thing we need to figure out to keep the rats away). If I had to do it again I would buy a Woodlink Absolute II with a seed tray to catch the waste. I wish I had figured that out before we bought two of these Squirrel-proof feeders.
Question:	Would this feeder work well for feeding thistle seed
Answer:	Yes it works for all seed types! I love this feature, I actually have three of them in different sizes. I used to have to feed the birds every day because of the squirrels. now I feed them one or two times a week
Question:	Has anyone tried using a soft, flowing peanut butter like Smucker's in this feeder
Answer:	I'm not certain what this question means, but allow me to wing a guess and respond. My guess is that you don't really want to deny the squirrels, and let the birds have all that seedy bounty. Actually, the feeder does work as advertised and, at first, I was amused at the antics of the squirrels that were always thwarted by this remarkable feeder. Then, I actually noticed how the system really works. The birds get all they want, but they are very messy eaters. A lot of seeds fall to the ground, and the squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits and other larger species get their fill as well. It's fun and satisfying to see equality really happening at the feeder. Amazingly, they all seem to get along, and all go "home" happy!
Question:	How much seed does this feeder hold
Answer:	A couple cups. The "standard" size holds about a quart. Be aware that if you're providing black oil seeds (which our Northwest birds like best) that they may get hung up and have to be pushed down. This has not happened with the standard size. (I now use the mini for providing other kinds of seeds.)

The Need for Clearance

Remember it is the squirrel’s weight that triggers the closing mechanism. If a squirrel can reach over from a nearby foothold and avoid placing its weight on the feeder, it will be able to access the seed. Allow for at least 18 inches or 47 cm of clearance around the feeder. This will force the squirrel to climb onto the feeder triggering the closing mechanism.

Answer:	I would for safety for this is very fragile use two nails about 1/2 inch apart both in a vertical line on the tree your going to hang this on so it is secure during inclement weather, if putting on a porch I would get a frame kit and use the wire and nails provided, but only if porch is pretty weather proof otherwise use the first way:). My first one came broken but second one is doing well, if we have a hurricane I will bring it inside otherwise the rain doesn't bother it just wipe out and put new food. Adorable product!! Still waiting on my refund for the one that came broken so not pleased with the company.
Question:	how big is the bowl for the seed
Answer:	It's about as big as the palm of your hand. Not good for feeding a lot, or really any, birds but an adorable decoration for yard. Seed does get eaten, but I never see the birds on it so not sure how.

Question:	Does it deter chipmunks
Answer:	No it does not deter chipmunks but I love this feeder. We placed a small baffle under feeders which solved the chipmunk issue.
Question:	Male cardinals aren't using the perch. They just sit below the feeder eating off the ground. Female Cardinals use it. Any idea why
Answer:	I have the same problem. Even with the optional Cardonal ring, they still won't use it. I think the feeding ports are too small for them to comfortably use. The fool proof way to prevent squirrels from eating your bird seed is to use Safflower seeds. They have all the nutrition of sunflower seeds, all varieties of sang birds love them (including woodpeckers) AND THE SQUIRRELS WILL NOT TOUCH THEM! I wish someone would have told me this before I spent $$$$ over the years trying to find a squirrel proof feeder. You can buy a 50 lb.. bag on Amazon for about $53 with free shipping. That comes out to about $1.06 a pound. Get an inexpensive feeder that cardinals will use and your problems are solved!
Question:	How often will I have to refill this feeder on average if I have a fair number of birds in the area and what cost would that entail
Answer:	Not trying to sound obvious, but it depends on the number and type of birds. My feeders in Houston draw Cardinals, Mockingbirds, Jays and Woodpeckers - hungry birds, plus lots of Sparrows and Carolina threshers. I have to refill the feeder about every 5 days with this crew. My feeder in Brenham also draws lots of birds, but smaller ones, and I only have to refill it every 7-8, sometimes 10 days. In the winter months, it will have to be refilled more often, of course.
Question:	The tension doesn't seem to deter rats...I don't know if this can be adjusted...I feel bad for the birds...but I took the feeder down today
Answer:	I have not had rats try to get the bird seed. I have had it for 3 years, the spring in the tension got loose after too many squirrel attempts. What I found is that the cardinal ring weighed it down and the birds could not get to the seed. The customer care sent me a new spring mechanism and it works great now, ring and all.

How It works?

Openings in the bottom section of the feeder (shroud) align with seed ports, providing birds access to the seed. When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight automatically forces the shroud down, closing the seed ports. Squirrels and large birds are foiled but not harmed in any way.

The Closing Mechanism

Use the feeder with the factory setting before making any adjustments.

To increase the adjustment setting, rotate the transparent cartridge clockwise. The red line will move down from the previous setting. This increases the weight required to close access to the seed.

To decrease the adjustment setting, turn the cartridge counter clockwise. The red line will move up from the previous setting. This decreases the weight required to close access to the seed.

Where to Locate your Plus

You can locate this bird feeder anywhere and be squirrel free. Position it to get great close-up views of your favorite birds. Hang your Squirrel Buster Plus over a window, in a tree, on a deck, a fence, in your garden, on the side of your house, from a rain trough or over sliding doors. Question:	What is the max pole diameter your product will work for? Mine is maybe closer to
Answer:	One and five-eighths is the exact diameter of the hole in the baffle, but you would have to be able to slide it on from the top or bottom of the pole after the baffle has already been hooked together. I say this because one side curves around on the top and the curves around on the bottom and you hook the two curved parts together like if you curved your fingers on both hands and then hooked your hands together. While squeezing the baffle in order to hook the two sides, the hole would actually become smaller than 1 5/8 during the squeezing process until they hook together and then will snap back so that the hole is again 1 5/8. So if you're pole is already in the ground and your bird feeder is attached to the pole in such a manner that it can't be removed or the pole can't be separated, you won't be able to attach this baffle. I don't know if I explained this very well, but hopefully, you get the idea.
Question:	I have a 2 inch pole. Can the top be cut to enlarge it so it would work on my pole
Answer:	Hi, Gary. When the baffle is closed, the opening at the top measures 1.5 inches. The support (which clamps to the pole and holds the baffle up) is not big enough to fit securely on a 2" pole. You might check with the manufacturer to see if they offer a different sized baffle set up. I hope this helps.
Question:	Does the cone open up to wrap it around the pole or does it have to be slipped on over the top or bottom
Answer:	It opens up to wrap around the pole. I was even able to wrap it around two poles that are side by side, giving me more hooks to hang bird feeders that are protected by the baffle.

Question:	is it plastic in the windows
Answer:	It seems to be very hard plastic. We still haven't needed to clean the windows. Our oldest feeder is at least 5 or 6 years old (maybe older) and it has held up beautifully. We tried some other brands a few years ago, and the Absolute II is the best. Neither squirrels nor doves have mastered it. We highly recommend it.
Question:	what diameter pole does it use
Answer:	Yes , pole provided with feeder is one inch in diameter. ( 4 slip joint sections) .
Question:	Could it be mounted on a 4"x4" post
Answer:	Yes. I attached a threaded iron pipe flange (round) that accepted a 1" threaded pipe. I secured the bottom of the flange with four screws to the top of the 4"x4" post. I then attached a threaded 1" pipe stub threaded at both ends. You can get these parts at the local Home Depot. I screwed in one end of my pipe stub into the flange and greased it to prevent rust. I attached the bird feeder mount to the feeder with the attached hardware (pole mount) and simply slid the pole mount onto the top of the pipe stub. The bird feeder mounted sturdily since the pipe stub was 1" and the pole is designed to mount on a 1" pole.

Answer:	Hi Vickie. Holding the feeder upside down, turn the base counterclockwise. It will rotate slightly and then separate from the green piece that has the feeder holes in it. The charging receptacle is in the top of the post. Hope this helps. Ken

Answer:	If there is going to be freezing rain or snow (unlikely in FL) or very heavy, windy rainfall, then it's recommended that you turn off the power (there is a switch right on the feeder). If it's really bad, you can pull out the core (the battery). You just twist the perch and the perch/core combo comes out. You also do this when you need to recharge it. You can leave the actual feeder outside--just remove the battery. Having said that, we are on our second Yankee Flipper after about 15 years with the first one! That first version had no ability to remove the core or turn off, and yet it still lasted that long through Chicago-area rain/snow/wind. The only reason we replaced it is that the battery would no longer charge. That's a really long time for something to work unfailingly! You can always buy a baffle to put over the top if you feel the need. They come in plexiglass, metal or plastic. Hope that helps.
Question:	What do people think about all of the seed that falls out of the large feeding ports
Answer:	If you check the actions of the birds on the feeders with your binoculars, studying them very carefully, I think you will find that most of the seed landing on the ground has been pitched out by the birds themselves and is not falling out of the feeder. I have watched this action myself. I think Mourning Doves are not well understood but they are actually quite beneficial to us. They eat all the weed seed they can find on the ground and it does not pass through their digestive systems to get deposited somewhere else. They consume grit, tiny sharp edged pieces of rock, that serve to grind up the seeds they eat the seeds thus turning the seed into energy for them rather than new weeds "for" us. I use one of these feeders myself with a tray attached underneath. The tray catches a high percentage of discarded seed and it is often eaten by other birds. A feeder tray pays for itself if you want to reduce your offerings to doves and squirrels.
Question:	Not only do I have squirrels but I have a raccoon. Do you think this feeder will withstand the weight of a raccoon
Answer:	I am not sure. It's a very sturdy feeder and squirrels are no problem as once the spinner threw them off they didn't try again. I would suppose that if the raccoons could get it on the ground, they could pry the lid off. You might try wiring the lid on, but they would probably roll it around on the ground until the seeds fell out. You might try suspending it from a small steel cable away from anything they could climb on to reach it. If the feeder remains hanging, I think you may have a chance of keeping them out. Sorry I am not more raccoon savvy, my daughter fights they all the time at her house because they kill her chickens.

Question:	What pole works with this feeder
Answer:	The best way to use this feeder is to hang it. Keep in mind that it is large and when it is full of food, it is really heavy. This feeder is really well made and it works. It is also a lot of fun watching the squirrels try to figure it out. Just make sure that whatever you are hanging it from is substantial and strong. Mounting a pole directly to the bottom of the feeder will not work.
Question:	My battery goes dead in less than a month. Any ideas why
Answer:	Ours last about three months, so your experience is odd. Some thoughts: 1) A long shot answer would be if the feeder is perpetually damp; in that case the moisture might provide a high-resistance short circuit between the contacts normally bridged by a squirrel. I think this is unlikely, but you can check. 2) Do you have a lot of squirrels being "zapped" every day? That would wear down the battery. 3) Otherwise I would contact the manufacturer. Something isn't right.
Question:	Is this supposed to beep when turned on? My previous feeder did and this one does not

Remember it’s a squirrel’s weight that triggers the closing mechanism. If a squirrel can reach over from a nearby foothold and avoid placing his weight on the feeder, he can access the birdseed. Question:	i am going to try for first time. any suggestion for the seeds in this feeder
Answer:	Mixed blends work great. Sunflower, safflower, un-shelled peanuts, millet, milo, and cracked corn are all suitable.
Question:	Can this feeder be placed on a pole or only hung on a hook
Answer:	yes. my parent have a pole with "arms" that this hangs from. It's nice in that it's not so heavy that it pulls the pole over (could be that their pole is placed securely enough in the ground that it doesn't need to be counter balanced). Also, so far, they claim that the squirrels cannot get to it.
Question:	Do UNshelled black oil sunflower seeds work in this feeder
Answer:	I would say yes as I use them in my mix. The storage barell of this feeder is smaller and narrower than most so the sunflower seeds may imped the downward flow of seeds in the tube if the concentration is too many, but the birds can get to them thru the openings. I hope that answers your Question? I got this feeder to keep away the starlings and other larger birds. It appears to help but they can reach at time if they can hang on
